Hey!
So I am a senior in high school... I got accepted to good schools and have narrowed it down to: UCLA and NYU. I really want to go to NYU but what is holding me back is that UCLA has a better ranking and its 1/4 the price..If i do go to NYU will it be really hard to get accepted to UCLA med school? I heard that if you go to ucla undergrad you have a better chance of getting into their med school...what should i doo!? I currently live in Los Angeles now...if i go to NYU and apply to ucla med school..would i be considered a california resident? and does ucla give priority to their own graduates? and roughly how much is medical school per year? I want to work in Los angeles too so I want to get my graduate degree from UCLA medical school and work at a hospital in LA. I also want to go to NYU for my undergrad to have a different "experience" but I don't want to go to NYU risking that I would have a higher chance of getting into UCLA med school if I went to ucla for undergrad..I need some professional help..MAJOR HELP..PLEASE!

If you’re reasonably careful, going to NYU shouldn’t jeopardize your California residency. UCLA Med claims not to favor California residents anyway. Medical school at UCSF was around $36K a year when I looked into it five years ago and is probably more expensive now.

I doubt UCLA will show very much favoritism towards their own undergrads; they can’t, since the college is gigantic.

On the other hand, the financial consideration is a genuine thing to worry about.

What GPA should I have and what MCAT score since I want to go to ucla med school. What other things should I do during my 4 years in college to boost my chances and distinguish me from other applicants?

When you get farther along you’ll want to buy a copy of US News to figure out their means and medians. In the meanwhile, find an activity you’re passionate about, plus some research and plus some clinical experience.

Who will be paying for your undergrad education and how will you be paying for med school? If your family will not be able to help you with med school because they will be paying for undergrad, then going to NYU is not a good idea.

however, if your parents are affluent and will pay for NYU and med school, then go to NYU if you like.

i have heard that it is hard to maintain a good gpa(better than 3.8) at NYU
