NYU Waitlist 2023

Is there a way we can make a strawpoll?

a straw poll?

bruh is anyone else dying with anticipation. I’ve been checking my email literally once every hour to see if NYU has sent out any messages.

Just took my application off the waitlist. Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations @Ponogirl808 Which school did you get into?

I’m pretty sure she means she took it off as in withdrew her application

@Divyansh201

I still have not received the form or email that everyone is talking about

i’m dying tooooo. i think they’re gonna wait till monday to start accepting ppl bc the form isn’t due till tomorrow.

@jOrbis Yeah that’s right.

A straw poll for what? Stats or to find a correlation between the form and acceptances?

Guys I’m so stressed right now. Last year, the email was only sent to a small portion of people. And in the email, they stated your school name. This year it seems like lots of people got the email and everyone’s email is the same. In the last year’s post, the first wave was two days after people first received their emails. The emails came out on a Wednesday(5/2/18) and the results came out on the Friday. And in the email it stated please respond within 24 hours. However, since this year, May 2nd is a Thursday, so after 2 business days it would be next Monday. Since in this year’s email, they ask you to respond before Sunday midnight, and also on their Twitter on Thursday they replied someone said the results would come out early next week. So I’m thinking maybe we only need to wait for couple more days. By the way, last year not all people who got in received the email and some people who got the email didn’t get in on the first wave. I’m not sure about the correlation between the email and acceptance. Just trying to give as much information as I know. Good luck everyone! Hope we all get good results on Monday.

@NYUEDII2023 that’s a pretty dedicated username

This is just speculation, but I suspect there are a lot more people on the waitlist this year because the actual numbers accepted in the ED & RD rounds were well below the previous years, for the same intended freshman class size. Even with a higher % of the class coming from ED now, this still probably means they will also take more people off the waitlist.

@SJ2727 yeah they do that in the hopes of having a higher yield rate, so how many they accept off the waitlist will just depend on that.

@NYUEDII2023 Last year, the people who did not get the email and got in were only accepted into spring admission. When I read through the chats from last year’s waitlist thread, I could not find anyone that did not get the email and got in for the fall term.

@SJ2727 It does seem that NYU has a larger waitlist this year…

There were also some people last year who got the email and were offered spring admission (Per last year’s thread) I hope NYU gives more fall admission offers to the waitlist this year

The spring admissions website indicates they use spring admissions for those who they would like to admit but don’t have space for in the fall semester. Unfortunately, waitlist applicants are more likely to fall into that category as the ED/RD offers will be the ones that get fall offers.

I guess this is really up to each individual and how badly you want to attend a particular university, vs how badly you want to start in the fall.

@bRoThErSiNtHeLiFe I am so bored of conspiracy theories about yield, lol. In my opinion a bigger part of it is that more applicants have been accepted ED, so they are already more sure of a bigger portion of the class, so they just don’t need to make as many RD offers to begin with. This is also why the RD round is becoming so much more competitive.

Using the waitlist also allows them to finetune class composition more than just making more RD offers. I suspect that this entire move is enabled by the NYU applicant pool becoming more and more competitive. 5 years ago using such a large % of ED and going to waitlist would likely have resulted in a significantly lower stats profile for the class than what they will get this year.

maybe that email was sent to students nyu is considering taking off the waitlist? was it similar to the letter posted in here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2015/06/05/nyu-to-wait-listed-student-still-interested-we-might-let-you-in-or-not/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.92b91e26dc70
