Anyone know how many student usually accept the waitlist offer. I did the math and itā€™s definitely less than 7,000 people but that feels like a very vague number.

i know in 2010, they waitlisted ~2500 people, ~1500 accepted it, and ~130 were admitted

Hi guys! I applied to CAS Pre-Professional Medical Track and got waitlisted ā€¦ no wonder why smh. My second choice was Gallatin, was really looking forward to that //: But on my application I indicated that I was still interested in CAS, just added a few more majors, and Gallatin, as well as Global Liberal Studies Program in four countries. Iā€™m really hoping that I get a spot in either of those three schools/programs ā€¦ NYU was a dream come true! But then again ā€¦ tuition ā€¦ so Iā€™m totally lost lol (but still hoping)

@applefreak665 So that comes around 8.6%. So, in 2010, 60% of the waitlisted people stayed on it. This year the number of applicants is 67,232 and 21% of applicants were waitlisted which comes to around 14,118. Assuming that 60% of them will stay on the waitlist, 8,470 people will stay this year. With 2010ā€™s 8.6%acceptance rate, 730 people could be accepted this year. I guess I just have too much free time. This is definitely not accurate and it changes every year

Wow, Iā€™m hella chuckling at thisā€¦ you guys are literally doing math to calculate these percentages. Thatā€™s dedication. Respect.

Welpā€¦ the only way to know if we can get in is by just applying

@tealovahh Awww! Tealovahh, itā€™s so sweet of you, in the middle of your freshman year of college, where you are so very happy, and have happily moved on, to create a brand new college confidential account on 3/31/17 and post this one post on the NYU Waitlist 2021 forum just to let all of us waitlisted people know that weā€™d be so much happier to decline a spot on the waitlist!

@stasi1999 I canā€™t tell if thatā€™s sarcasm or not. Lol

@lsingh It is indeed sarcasm. Itā€™s highly unlikely that a happy college freshman would create a college confidential account on 3/31/17 to make one post in the NYU waitlist thread for the high school class year after her. Given tealovahh is a new account with one post to her name, I think tealovahh is on the NYU class of 2021 waitlist and is hoping to encourage others on the waitlist to drop off and accept another college to increase her chances on the NYU waitlist.

Yeah itā€™s a very underhanded method to go about things. @stasi1999
Tealovahh is pretty desperate.

@stasi1999 Tealovahh even joined the waitlist group me chat and began talking about how happy she is atā€¦I think some college in Boston. She said that she didnā€™t want us to be worried because some of her friends were waitlisted at NYU and they were super worried and nervous

@hillmtalia I am on spring break and bored to death. I love math so why not. Lol

Does anyone know why NYU has such a large waitlist this year? Thereā€™s no reason to think they will take the same percentage off their waitlist without knowing why itā€™s so large to begin with. Last year they took about 300 off the waitlist but I donā€™t know how many total were waitlisted.
ETA that they said they waitlisted 10-15% of the applicant pool last year (which was about 64k) and expected less than 50% of those offered a spot to accept it. If 50% accepted a spot it would make the percentage taken off the waitlist approximately 6%

why doesnā€™t nyu release statistics about their former waitlists?? its really difficult to find any information on the waitlist. i dont want to hang on to false hope

@guamboy - As @Nimisha99 posted a few days ago, the NYU Admissions blog post for 2016 indicated that NYU accepted about 300 students last year from the waitlist. Not a lot, but itā€™s something. I really appreciate how transparent NYU was in 2016 on its blog about movement on the waitlist. It was nice that NYU let waitlisted students know when certain schools (Tandon, Steinhardt, Tisch etc.) were full and that no more students would be taken from the waitlist, so that students could move on. Iā€™m hoping NYU is equally transparent this year.

@guamboy I know right! I looked everywhere including the NYU Facebook and I havenā€™t found anything about waitlist acceptance rates.

I know that in the FAQ they mention not to contact the admissions officers and just to have all the info in your RSVP form. In last yearā€™s forum though, many of them contacted NYU to relay their interest and a lot of them got in. What do you guys think?
