@KelseyCarolyn33 I find that hard to believe since they only accepted about 300 students last year, but I wasn’t on the forums last year so idk,
I have the urge to write the admissions officer an email, but I don’t want to be annoying since they specifically said not to. I just really wanna get in!
also, I heard this year they are admitting around 100 students for a spring start instead of fall start so they may have waitlisted more kids than usual and don’t want thousands of emails.
Yeah that’s true. I really don’t want to annoy them @khan28
Does the likelihood of getting off of the waitlist increase with the number of programs you put down that you want to be considered for?
I also put down many cities…idk if that helps
Would it be smart to commit to another school that you got accepted to right now just in case and give in your deposit before May 1st? Would you be able to withdraw your deposit and admission into that other school if you are taken off of the NYU waitlist later on in May and choose to go there instead? How does this work
@MalikDReams I believe you can withdraw your admission but I don’t think you can withdraw your deposit since for most schools (if not all) the deposit is unrefundable.
@MalikDReams NYU recommends committing to another school just in case you don’t get off the waitlist. We probably won’t hear about our waitlist decisions before May 1st.
Hey, I’m also an international student who applied to CAS. I got waitlisted too and i am still Just a bit amazed by this all, i didn’t get into 3 out of the 4 colleges i applied to and I have a 4.9 GPA plus tons of extra curriculars and leadership experience. Most of us here are actually over qualified but apparently there are just too many undergraduate applicants this year. NYU really is all i have and it was my first choice (so that sort of makes the other rejections less painful). So I’m definitely staying on this list.
Do you think submitting before May 1st makes my chances any better? Thanks
@splash102 i am not sure but i think the more programs and cities you want to be considered for will better your chances because You will be considered for Any available spaces.
What are the least popular programs at Tandon?
Can someone tell me where on the waitlist form you can submit additional information. I only see space for name , email and basic info.
Same lol. Also I feel like what I want to study is not that common or particularly sought after at NYU, but I could be wrong. I am applying to CAS but at the same time I’m only interested in studying languages/linguistics. I’ve never met anyone studying that at NYU so I’m surprised but I suppose they based their decision to waitlist me solely on the fact that I applied to CAS and not my particular subject area.
@wsxedc No because I applied for other universities in London and got conditional offers for those ones. It wouldn’t really make much sense for me to apply to NYU in London at this point. NYU has always been primarily about the location for me. My competence in my major would really benefit from being in NYC.
Anyone know how many people were on the waitlist last year
@lsingh1347 21% of applicants had the option to be put on the waitlist but we have no idea how many accepted the offer. Probably about half if it’s like other years.
@KelseyCarolyn33 What I don’t get is why is there sooooo many people on this waitlist next year. 21 percent of 67000 applicants is 14000 people. It’s like a second admissions process except the odds are even higher! Actually that’s exactly what it is.
@lsingh1347 Exactly. Not everybody is going to select the offer though, so there will probably be around ~6700 people on the waitlist. No idea how many people who originally going to get in are going to choose to go though bc I have seen a lot of people turn down NYU because of the cost. We’ll see ;/
there’s roughly 9,000 people on the waitlist not 14,000
