@airfire1928 21% of 67000 is about 14000
@Isingh1347 lol 30% also got accepted so you have to subtract that value from 67,000 and then take 21% which is roughly about 9,800
@airfire1928 It says on the waitlist FAQ on the NYU website that they “extended a wait list offer to over 21% of the TOTAL applicant pool.” Plus, NYU hasn’t released any info about how many people were accepted this year.
@Isingh1347 lol actually they said on twitter that they offered 30% of the application pool admission. people can’t get accepted and waitlist so it make sense roughly 9,800 people were offered the waitlist option
The numbers add up. I think when they said they waitlisted 21% of the total applicant pool, they meant 21% of the 67,000 total applicant pool. No need to deduct the accepted students from the total applicant pool
30% of 67,000 total applicant pool admitted =
20,100
21% of 67,000 total applicant pool waitlisted = 14,070
From those numbers, it seems 49% of 67,000 total applicant pool rejected = 32,830
20,100 admitted (30%)
14,070 waitlisted (21%)
32,830 rejected (49%)
67,000 total applicant pool (100%}
( where the numbers came from => NYU admissions twitter said 30% of 67,000 total applicants admitted, and NYU admissions website FAQs said 21% of total applicants waitlisted).
@stasi1999 Dam…respect. But still… either way we have a pretty crappy chance of getting off this waitlist.
Yeah. If about 50% stay on it, then 7,035 which is still a pretty big number. I don’t think 7000 people would decline their offer
@Nimisha99 Yeah we have no idea this year. Just got to keep waiting with our fingers crossed.
I don’t know about you guys but I’ve already started doing my transfer application for NYU
I think I’m gonna wait until June to do that. lol @Isingh1347
@Nimisha99 Pretty much just given up on this waitlist
Wow. NYU only accepted 27% of their applicants this year Suddenly doesn’t feel too bad to be waitlisted
@KelseyCarolyn33 Well you also have to consider that a record 67000 people applied this year and 18000 people got accepted. Also, they’re projecting about 6500 people to be in the freshman class which is the biggest yet so I don’t know if there’s gonna be anymore room for us. Sorry for being a let down. (Not sarcasm)
@lsingh1347 Omg no problem!! I wasn’t saying that we have an awesome chance. I was saying that it actually is nice to be not immediately rejected like most people who applied. But I totally agree - we have to be realistic!
@KelseyCarolyn33 That’s true. Even though the chances are against us, at least we don’t have to hear the words “rejected” like most people did.
These statistics are so upsetting. Does anyone know when NYU will release more information regarding the waitlist?
Last year NYU gave updates about the waitlist on their admissions page. The first update last year was April 29, 2016 about movement on the waitlist. This year they might wait until after May 1 to update, but who knows. At least they provided updates last year, which indicated when a school/college (Tissch/Stern/Tandon) was full, so that waitlist applicants didn’t have to wait blindly until August 1 not knowing what was going on.
what do you guys think about getting accepted off the waitlist spoiling the experience of getting accepted a bit? just cause you don’t get to be on the Facebook page and find room mates cause everyones done that also probably worse chances at getting the dorm rooms you like. opinions?
@parisgeller Not for me personally. I have no real preferences when it comes to dorms, and NYU doesn’t even let you pick your roommate so I’m not too worried.
Has everybody submitted the RSVP form yet?
