October 2009 SAT II - US History

thoughts on the October US History test?

Eh, I thought it was fair.

The questions seemed a little easier than on the AP test.

My friends who took the SAT history test in may, and people on these boards, complained about the test being ridiculously specific then. I can’t say the same about today’s test.

Yea it was alright, but like always, there are some I just have no clue on.

Does anyone remember the sticky questions?

it is very hard.

I’m always unsure of the general strategy when choosing to answer the questions. I tried to answer every one that I maybe had a clue about. But with the length of the test (90 Questions) the guessing penalty could easily build up. What is everyone else’s strategy on whether to answer or skip?

I only skipped two. Mathematically if you can eliminate one answer it is worth guessing, because if you have a 1/4 chance at getting a question right (because you eliminated one answer), then over four questions guessed on you will have one right, and three wrong, which is 1 - 3/4 = 1/4, so overall its better than just skipping those questions.

Also one thing that was nice for me: How many people knew the Campbell’s Soup Painting?
I’m from Pittsburgh, PA so everyone here knows Andy Warhol (and has seen/studies his art in grade school).

A nice hometown advantage.

My response to the soup can was to write a big, bold letter NO on the test booklet. No one will ever see it… but that’s how I felt!

I got Andy Warhol…I almost second guessed myself and changed it, but I thought (correctly, apparently) that I remembered seeing that artwork on his wikipedia article, lol.

Hard Questions (that I would like to know answers to = D)

Did the british/french/spanish form strategic alliances with indians or adopt culture

What person would the feminists dislike

What did Kennedy do to show commitment to Vietnam

What did Truman say the greatest strength of the Soviet Military was

Why was cotton used in south after civil war

Who said tht quote saying expanison would lead to a “purer republic”

^^ these are my answers, not sure if they’re correct

 1. alliance with indians
 2. skipped
 3. advisors(I got it wrong)
 4. army
 5. sharcropping
 6. I dont recall this question

no JFK did send advisors im like 98 percent sure that is correct. The feminist dislike one i think was brigham young. i also dont remember an expansion quote maybe ur thinking of the faction quote which was james madison

Ya…sry I was talking about the one thats answer was madison. Also, I was between Brigham Young and some Timonthy guy (I dont know his name)…I went with Timothy/or watever just cuz Brigham didnt really get attack by feminists (unless they made a big deal out of his marriages…which they may have).

Here were a few more I wasnt sure about:

Did Johnson escalate fighting in Vietnam with Gulf of Tolkin resolution (I wasnt sure cuz didnt tht kinda start the war really)

That picture of people walking in the street saying something about lawyers and money (I had no idea…I think I put Lincoln and the greenbacks tho)

There was a quote about NOW…I think I put something about how they didnt gain full equality despite their granted suffrage

coxey’s army was the answer…its linked with free silver

why was that…wat proof was there in the picture?

yeah that parade picture question was really vauge

I also thought it was ridiculous but I looked up a picture and it was coxeys army on google images.

so what answer choice was that?
