October 2009 sat test discussion

so what you guys think?

i personally thought the passage about geologists and woman in arts was HARD.....
vocab was solid, math ok, writing ok?

and did you guys like the essay prompt??

Same! I could barely pay attention to those passages. For me the vocabulary was harder than it usually is.

I loved the essay prompt. I’d be surprised if I did bad on that.

Was the critical reading section with the naps the experimental section?

Yea, the women passage was a bit difficult. Also, some of the vocab was challenging. I thought writing and math were about normal. I just felt out of it today. I am so used to taking the ACT, it was a challenge to switch back with only a weeks worth of practice.

the CR section about art to me was the hardest and vocab was pretty challenging but the math i think i did the best

I felt that only one question in the geologist one was hard. Couldn’t decide between two choices, and I ended up erasing my answer several times before just picking one at random. I think the vocab completely screwed me over then. Oh well, there goes my 800 CR.

I agree with you guys about the Women and Art passage. There were like 5 questions where I was just like “huhhh?” The last two especially.

NAP WAS NOT AN EXP (my exp was writing)(the exp was the one with the skateboard) and i had the naps. The dual naps passages were easy

huh…the “Women in Art” passage was, for me, one of the easier ones because it held my interest for longer. (Maybe it was the more challenging vocab?) Even though the nap passages were short and pretty straightforward, I almost took a nap reading them.

Oh, mon dieu. That stupid “Women in Art” passage was rediculous. I had it all done, was happy I finished it on time, and proceded to go back and look at questions I wasn’t sure about only to discover (as I was turning to the next section after the test was over) that there were two questions on the other side of what I thought was the last page.

Was anybody totally suprised to see a passage from Jhumpa Lahiri’s “The Namesake” on the reading?

yes, but I thought it might be some divine intervention.

The math section was much easier than those in the BB. However, the CR was a bit harder. I agree with your guys, the art passage was very hard to read and the questions just didn’t click with me. I liked the essay topic. It was very BSable. I know I improved this time around. I just hope it’s enough.

OK so i had two writing sections one on wikipedia and the other on hybrid cars i’m guessing the wiki was experimenta.

Critical Reading Super boring and hard, almost started to guess in the end, there were two really stupid but hard questions in math.

hey guys which one was the reading experimental section? i think i had one with women and arts, then one about art critic and naps and the indian names one

CR exp. was about IM/texting, I think.

did i skip a section or something i dont remember having a Texting and IMing section…

yeah, i had an experimental CR (dont know which one), but no IM/texting - i had publishing girl

vocab was redic

essay was … wow, how are you supposed to come up w examples for that?

@king hybrid cars was real skateboard was exp. many people got only hybrid

thought the essay topic was good, yeah i had publishing girl too <.< i hope thats the experimental section, i skipped three questions, was completely lost on that passage. at first i thought she was an artist inspired by the lady, not until the end did i figure out she was a publisher ■■■.
