October 2010 ACT English Thread

@freerhyme,

I always used “caused.”

Does anyone remember the question where the answer choices were “Nevertheless, …” or “The.” I chose “The” but I wasn’t sure if “Nevertheless” should have been used.

I don’t understand what you are saying?

and I put “the” don’t know what everybody else put tho.

@markzillyway: I chose “The” too. I tried reading the sentence with “nevertheless” and it didn’t make sense within the passage.

^Agreed. There was no relationship between the previous and that sentence, so an introductory word was not appropriate. It was just “the”

I had “the” also, and I put “not unintentionally”…even though there isn’t a clear consensus on what the actual question was.

Did anyone catch “trick” questions or was I over thinking it? There were a few that the “no change” and one of the other answers were the same thing.

How about the (animal) question that had the choices: permit, help, and makes room for. It said, which is NOT accepted. I believe I put “makes room for”, but I was leaning also on “help”.

“makes room for” was definitelly the answer.

ehh, looks like i have -2 for sure… hope thats it though! lol

Right now I’m looking at -3. Woodpecker one about inhaling sawdust, hostels were to ITS advantage (I put my), and I put that the sentence about the Celtic music + father and son should be deleted. I probably got -6 though.

Again, I ask myself - why the f*** am I even posting this?

my friend was saying that he remembered putting down an answer “philosophy :”

anyone remember this?

^YES. I do. 10char

wait…idk if i put that or not. but i know which qyuestion u are talking about…

i foporget. but i knew i goty the right answer

i remember that being there but one of the other choices was listing w=with commas and it was grammatically correct.

ok first of all

i am 100% the correct answer was not unintentionally because not only did it support the statement that they made the score different on purpose it was the only one that meant something different from the other three

i may be wrong but i put “rapid, tapping, sound” because tapping was unnecessary information because the sentence would still make sense if it had only said “rapid sound”

im worried about the inclusion of “estranged father and son seeking reconciliation” i put do not include because the focus is on the music not the characters however had it only said “celtic music with estranged father and son” without “seeking reconciliation” i would have included it but the “seeking reconciliation” kept it from being clear and concise and did not sound right

for the $22 one i can barely remember but i think it had already stated that in the passage so you dont include it but i cant remember if im mixing that up with another question i just remember answering something with do not include because it repeats blah blah blah

i put become

cluster of stars that caused

my father said kneeling

ahh i just want it to be november 9th

I believe that is what I went with, if I remember correctly. The colon was not appropriate in that context.

the thing that sucks the most is I changed the “that caused” answer to “causes” at the very last second… Ahhh! oh well, I probably would have been thinking I got it wrong the rest of the test and lost some focus, so I guess its a give and take…

^i cant rmemeber that question at all…but im sure i could tell the difference between a restrctive and a nonrestrrictive clause.

^1111 posts!
and dont reply cause then itll be different!

What about the question that was like “extensively”…don’t remember the exact thing but one of the answer choices was to put a comma etc. Did you guys put anything?
