I’m pretty sure PSAT is only good for National Merit. Except I’m Canadian, so my PSAT isn’t even good for that…

Saelanares: Congrats on a fantastic score! To answer your question, those are the only scholarships that are DIRECTLY related to being a merit scholar, but there are still a number of good colleges that link free tuition or other scholarships to being a Merit Scholar. Not as many as there used to be when my first son was one, but they are still out there if you search for them. The top tier colleges don’t really seem to care, though. Regardless, it’s still a great accomplishment.

I got a 207 in Ohio. (80 M, 64 CR, 63 WS) and was in the 98th percentile for juniors. I was upset I just barely missed the 99th!
It was bitter-sweet though because I am happy with those scores.

233 in CA. 1 math Q was -4, which is bad, but I guess it’s ok.

Got a 55 on critical reading, didn’t even get a 200+ composite score, but close. Oh well, I got 212 on a practice PSAT, and will probably do good on the actual SAT.

When I saw “A Parent Tutorial for Understanding 2012 PSAT/NMSQT Results”, which is availabe at on-line, I realized that percentile on the score card is based on the last year’s scores. Normally, it was based on the same year test scores. Probably, this makes us unable to guess if a qualifying cutoff score this year will up or down this year.

If its true for all x and k, i’d just try x=1 and k=2. 2x-k=0 so 2k-mx=0 or 4-m=0. m=4. Test has a lot of trick questions. Always look for easiest way and check if time permits.

Rafael, it was based on this year’s test scores. It is just that this year and last year had very, very similar scores. I am pretty sure the charts are identical from 180+, but if you look through some of the lower scores you start to mean discrepancies. This means the cutoffs will be approximately the same as last year; the only difference will be due to a stronger or weaker class. Expect the cutoff in your state to be plus or minus two from last year’s cutoff.

I’ve seen a few posts on the number of PSAT 240 scores. Like 0.015% or about 200 nationally.
But since there’s a ‘curve’, does anyone know for 2012 how many kids scored 240 with no errors?

Don’t shoot me for asking. Thanks.

^ 240 on the 2012 PSAT was only possible two ways:

Getting zero wrong/zero omitted on the entire test

Or:

Getting one wrong or one omitted on the CR portion while acing the M & W parts.

I would imagine that fellow 240ers would be closely split between those two groups, but just a guess…

My daughter got 4 incorrect on CR for a 71-80-80=231

Does anyone know around what date the individual state PSAT reports come out ? I am anxious to compare year-to-year results to see how much I should expect the cutoff to fluctuate.

^ I had read late Jan/early Feb on these forums… Keep checking this link daily:

Can anyone estimate Tennessee’s cutoff for this year?
2012 Stats
CR 75-80 = 1.2% 70-74 = 3.8%
M 75-80 = 1.2% 70-74 = 2.2%
W 75-80 = 1.6% 70-74 = 3.1%

2011 Stats (210 cutoff)
CR 75-80 = 0.8% 70-74 = 2.7%
M 75-80 = 1.0% 70-74 = 3.2%
W 75-80 = 1.4% 70-74 = 1.7%

2010 Stats (214 cutoff)
CR 75-80 = 1.4% 70-74 = 2.8%
M 75-80 = 1.8% 70-74 = 2.8%
W 75-80 = 1.7% 70-74 = 3.2%

I have a score of 213 and I am really nervous the cutoff will be 214

Got a 219 as a sophomore in 2012 (80 M, 71 CR, 68 W), hoping to do better this coming year. Then again, Pennsylvania’s cutoff is like 210, so I think I’ll be fine. Good job all.

Got a 222 in the state of New Jersey, is it likely that I made it seeing the data this year? Also, whenever the Collegeboard shows the PSAT somposite score percentiles, the lower end of the 99+ percentile always seems to be the maximum NMF cutoff for any state, like in 2010 the lower end was a 224, a year when MA & NJ had cutoffs of 223 and in 2011 when the lower end was a 222 and MA & NJ had cutoffs of 221. The lower end of 99+ percentile is a 222 this year, would this mean the highest cutoff is probably a 221 or 222 for any state this year?
