October 2012 SAT Discussion

The October 6th SAT is just a week away, so I decided to make a centralized discussion thread for all CC'ers who plan to take it.

How has everyone been preparing? During the summer, I read through various prep books for all three sections (Direct Hits, Silverturtle's Guide, Meltzer's Grammar, etc.). Since finishing these books, I've been taking one test every Saturday and doing sections throughout the week. My goal score is a 2350+. Luckily, I'm only a junior, so I have time to improve if my October scores are not satisfactory.

Oh, and the SAT is on my birthday. Great present, huh?

Feel free to discuss anything about the test before and after the administration. Good luck, everyone!

I’ll be taking the October 6th one too!!

My prep has mainly consisted of math books because I had the lowest score in that section. I wasn’t able to study as much as I had hoped because I chose to take a Summer semester at a community college (It’s called middle college, but most people know it as Dual Enrollment/ Dual Credit).

The SAT is on your birthday? Wow. Well, I have to come back four days early from vacation to take it… that’s going to be a long, lonely 6hr drive back from TN to SC for it!

Guess it’s a bittersweet inconvenience for us both! Oh, and happy early birthday to youuuu!!! :)

Good luck on the SATs, guys!:slight_smile:
Im also taking the Oct test …
Ive been doing many practice tests, so hopefully all our hard work pays off :)

@Marie96: Thanks for the early birthday wish! I hope your inconvenient detour turns out to be a profitable venture!

It’s Saturday morning, so I’m off to take my last full-length SAT before the real thing.

And no, I will not miss spending four hours every Saturday taking these things.

Does anyone have an idea about how hard this test will be? I’ve heard things from other months, like December usually is easier because all the seniors take it then but it isn’t curved a lot, and November is sometimes hard. I’m hoping for a easy one!

@tdawg95

I would think that October is a ripe time for seniors to take the SAT, Nov/Dec is fairly late… especially if you’re going to apply ED/EA.

I wish I would’ve studied more, but I read through Silverturtle’s guide, Sparknotes guide, and have been taking SAT practice tests (I’m working on one more now, haha) and reviewing SAT vocab words, etc. Let’s hope this test is easy… this is my second time taking it, but I’m hoping to raise my score about 100 points! :slight_smile: And I’m a senior.

Ew, on your birthday? That is a great gift!

LOL sucks that its on your birthday. Results get out on my birthday

Yeah, it does suck a little, but I’m sure it would be awesome to come out of the test center feeling confident about my performance. Let’s hope I do well so that my birthday isn’t ruined.

Anyone have some score expectations?
I’m hoping to get at least a 2000+ :)

How is the Oct Sat curve compared to the other months?

@Luminiz and tdawg95
If I remember correctly, the SAT curves are predetermined so it wouldn’t matter how many seniors take it.

I’m hoping for 2100+. I really need to beat my past scores :(

Good luck to everybody!

If you took practice test #7 did you find math and the last passage of critical reading a lot harder than normal?

Dude that was the one about the guy who got fired from Jocelyn College or something right? I graded my test today and I missed like 5 questions on that section… I usually only miss 1 or 2 per.

First time on the SAT forum too, hehe. I’m usually only on the ACT one. Good luck everybody! I’m praying for a 2200.

@Vicimus
Yea it was that passage. I honestly had no idea what was going on other than the fact that he got fired.

my plan for the week:
do 3 timed sections everyday till thursday, and then friday try to review/take a practice test. and then after saturday, PARTY!!! cuz ill be done with this horrid test!

I just used books and watched videos. Mainly Barron’s and DH for vocabulary and Gruber’s for math. My scores somehow got to where they need to be. I just have this nagging feeling that although the practice CB tests are going perfectly I am just going to bomb the real one. Hoping for a 2200 here at least.

hello, i will attend the sat in a few days . but the vacubualary seems a problem for me.

What’s the chance of the words in CR appeared in last year’s October SAT, are going to appear on this October SAT again?

soooo trying to get 2300 + Let’s see how it goes. I’ve been preparing for the past 3-4 weeks taking a practice test every Sat and Sun. usually get 3-4 questions wrong in the entire test but the essay is my weak point.
