is anyone else panicking? i am a nervous wreck...but yoga and tennis are helping. i was really shocked to be hearing back from colleges this week. i thought i wouldn't hear until next week (mostly because i thought it would come out on mail, not by email)...i also just got rejected from stanford yesterday (2 days earlier than i thought i would)...

and i like marianne arrigone too! she is so nice!

no i would definitely agree with that URM statement. it seems that only URM or legacy status gets you in. this whole process has left me disillusioned with higher education. they try to create diversity, but they're deluding themselves and not giving other deserving students a chance. columbia has been my first choice this whole time because they create diversity using personalities rather than race.

Not to lenghten this exchange, but black URM here so I'll chime in: Born in Haiti (poorest country in this hemisphere for a good long while now), came to Canada when I was seven, dad is a political refugee, first generation, technically poor (less than 14,000$ anually) and all that jazz..... and I still got turned down faster than a hooker with visible sores. And its not like my stats and ECs were lacking either. Top 3% of high school, straight As throughout college, good recs, etc...Basically the standard.

Every URM thats at one of the top schools is not there solely because of his/her background and a false claim to diversity. They certainly deserve to be there....And part of me hates them for it. hiss 100% jealousy of course.

It is a no for me but I thought that would be the case
I finally got trough by calling the regular admissions number and they transfered me to some guy who like checked the database...

sarah, they put me in the same guy too. it's a no for me as well, and I can still feel my heart pounding, but at least I'm free now... and much happier knowing that I'm going to a place next year where Yale patterned its residential college system after ;)

kudos to all of you guys--applying to Yale is an achievement in itself!

the guy told me the "administrative assistant" who has the list (presumably Marianne) already left the office... so if you call now, the admissions secretary might put you through to him. he's actually quite nice, wishing me all the best and everything.
