Hello everyone, I'm planning on applying to Yale next year for the junior class. I'm at NYU right now and have a cumulative gpa of 3.8. My high school gpa was a 3.8 as well and my sat and sat II scores are mediocre. Should I retake the SAT or concentrate on keeping up my college gpa? I would really appreciate any advice from those who were accepted as transfers.

What do you define by mediocre SAT scores? I don't think it's as important for transfers. I think you should definitely focus more on your college GPA and, even more importantly, your ECs. I know for a fact I wouldn't have gotten accepted if I just had good grades at my university... you should focus more on excelling at something that you really enjoy and the university would find interesting. They have loads of kids applying with great SATs and perfect GPAs, give them a reason why they should take you over them.

People also say your recs are super important... but I was accepted using two lab TAs as my rec writers... so I dunno...

Hope that helps, good luck next year.

hey,you are so funny
go and sent it with no hesitate!^^

bjp: I would definitely retake the SATs. Looking back they were my only weak academic feature and I got rejected. Not saying that its the reason why but I don't think a 3.8 is strong enough to not care about the SATs. For them it counts. Depending on what exactly you consider to be mediocre (a 2100 is not mediocre) I would retake them.

to undisclosed,
um,if one doesnt meet the sat 75th percentile score through the common data sets of yale(freshman profile part),will it bring negative effect for the application?
anyway,i gonna to take it this fall.

err...what's the 75th percentile score?

um,the definition here I quoted is "The 25th percentile is the score that 25 percent scored at or below; the 75th percentile score is the one that 25 percent scored at or above."
SAT Critical Reading 700(25th) 790(75th)
SAT Math 690(25th) 790(75th)
SAT Writing 690(25th) 790(75th)
from yale commen data sets about freshman profile 2007

lol, I know what a percentile is; I was asking for the number. The 75th percentile is definitely high enough. What the hell, what's a 2370. You've got nothing to sweat. My personal cutoff would be a 2200. Any lower, I would retake it. But for some anything less than 2300 is unacceptable. It's really up to you.

A 3.8 gpa is good but...yknow: this is Yale. Direct quotation: "They like to see 4.0s". I'd shoot for the stars SAT-wise.

My $0.02

to undisclosed.
wow,i think it will be a bit easier to become the 25th percentile...
what the hell.i'll give it a shot.do my best and wont regret about anything.
yeah,that is YALE.
btw, when will u take SAT?are you gonna transfer as sophomore or junior?
i will apply for the sophomore year.
