Official 2010 Boston College Waitlist Thread

I know someone that recieved a letter saying that they are taking some people.

notsurefor2006- Did the person receiving the letter get off the waitlist? Or was it a rejection letter saying "sorry" but some others will be accepted?

No, it was a rejection letter. I don't know anyone who has gotten off, but it did say people would.

i'm sort of confused
i'm still waiting to hear but
i know at least 10 people personally that have been initially accepted to BC but are not going for a variety of reasons
there must be hundreds more
how can they not take ANYONe of the waitlist
not that it matters..
even if i did get in, im already psyched for fordham =DDD

pm, BC, like everyone else, accepts about three times more applicants than the size of their freshman class, knowing many won't accept and will go elsewhere. That's why, same as my daughter's school, you see many people not accepting, but almost no one off the waitlist.

BillOGoods--you're exactly right. BC accepts over 6000 students for 2000+ spots. Which means 4000 students have to say "no thank you" before they even look at the waitlist. Any waitlisted student should get excited about attending another university and then be pleasantly surprised if they get off any waitlists.

has anyone heard anything from BC until now? acceptances or rejections from waitlist? I still havent even gotten a letter back :(

PGM123, you need to contact BC directly. My D received a letter last week Wednesday or Thursday saying the class was now full. The envelope was post marked May 19th. A call to BC indicated that they filled all the open positions off the wait list shortly after May 1st and then just waited for the Ivys to see how many, if any, would bolt from BC to an Ivy.

So, this is "old and cold" by now. Call them and find out what happened.

I am going to call the office this afternoon if I don't get a letter today. I will give them the three day weekend since there has been no mail the past two days. Does anyone know someone who has gotten off of the waitlist?

yea notsure i was also going to wait for today since the mail hasnt been in for 2 days. i think it may be good that we havent heard yet though!

my D1 has not heard a thing yet either...and this mom is NOT going to call admissions...Patience is a virtue and we have been patient this long, why not wait it out and see??!! (she is GD of BC eagle and niece of 2 BC eagles)...The website says we will all receive letters by June 15 and it is not even June 1 yet...

Another day of mail goes by...
Reading what you guys have said, I won't call yet. It's just that I sent my application in seven months ago and I am getting sick of waiting.

i agree...my D1 started working on BC & Nova apps last Sept...got them in by Nov. 1 at the latest , deferred, waitlisted...and have yet tohear from either.................she is most certainly capable of doing the work at either...we are well on our way with Plan B anyway...Conn Coll...which at least interviewed my kid and looked her in the eye!!

just got the mail. still nothing...

Still no letter either... If anyone gets through to admissions & gets a straight answer, that would be great. Sure, we had planned on waiting 'til 6/15, but when people got completely different messages, either verbally or in their letters, I'd rather get the real info now...

For all of you who haven't heard anything, are you sure they received your postcard saying you wanted to remain on the waitlist? My comment when I saw the flimsy little response postcard was, " We'll be lucky if this little thing makes its way back up to BC!" My D's waitlist rejection letter stated that the class of 2010 was full and no one was coming off the waitlist. I guess they got my D's response card. My bad!!

I don't know if someone has stated this before cause I don't want to sift through the 16 pages of comments. But the class might be full, but the reason why they are keeping people on the waiting list is because they think that kids might bolt for ivy league schools if given the opportunity. Does anyone know of ivies that are going to their list?

You folks are showing amazing patience. My guess is that the BC admissions office is treading on new ground with the quantity and quality of applications this year. They probably weren't completely prepared for advancing so far so fast. So they are perhaps a little too cautious and tentative with their decisions.

JUST got off the fone with the office. they said they guarantee they will be out by the 15th and that nothing else is going to be said over the fone. DAMN IT

yeah, the first time i called about a week ago they were really nice and helpful. but when i called again yesterday, the lady was snappy and seemed impatient, telling me exactly what they told the person above me. i guess maybe that's what they've been told to say...?
