Serendipity, did you also receive the email a week or two ago that said 50 students were being waitlisted?

Nope, but regardless, those 50 students would only get a spot if there is an extreme case of summer melt for Yale, which is unlikely.

Did anyone else receive this email (telling us that the class is full)?

no, but i got the 50 person wait list one about two weeks ago

Serendipity, do you mind posting a transcript of that email (instead of just paraphrasing it)?

And, bouda, thanks for the info. I hope your friend is right.

I’d like to know whether the email contained an absolute statement that Yale would not be taking anyone off the waitlist this year, or did it reiterate that it is unlikely anyone will be taken off (leaving a tiny glimmer of hope for those who did not receive the most recent email).

Yeah, that’s precisely why I wanted him to post the transcript. If the former is true, it’s odd that none of us received that email.

Dear X,

Thank you for choosing to remain on Yale’s wait list. I am sorry to tell you that a review of the status of our freshman class indicates that we will not be able to give further consideration to your application. No one from the wait list has been offered admission, and our freshman class is still oversubscribed. I appreciate your patience in awaiting final word on your candidacy.

I wish you the best of luck in your undergraduate years. Thank you for your interest in Yale.

Sincerely yours,
Jeffrey Brenzel
Dean of Admissions

I’m pretty sure I got this due to having asked my local alumni director to confirm my status (after I’d found that some people got the 50-person thing and that I’d not). So I’m guessing if you’re not one of the 50, then you’re probably out of luck. :(

So does this mean no one is going to be accepted from the waitlist?

My interpretation is this: if you received an email informing you that you are one of 50 being retained on the extended waitlist, there is a chance (albeit a slim one) that you will be accepted should an opening occur.

I called the office today. Yale is still oversubscribed.

… and it’s almost the end of June.

…Well, that’s deflating. It’s been a good run, guys.

well, I guess its pretty safe to say (as repetitive as this sounds) that chances of getting into to Yale from this new and improved waitlist (which 50 of us have rejoiced to be a part of) are inredibly slim…BUT…it’s not over until the “fat lady sings”…until we get that rejection e-mail, coming to a inbox near us prettty soon, we should still keep a glimpse of hope alive (which in this case is pretty unrealistic)…I mean, like almost all of you on the new waitlist (of which I am also a part of), Yale is my absolute dream school and I sincerely hope and wish that they somehow accept some of us…after we are rejected (most likely at this point), we just have to come to realize that maybe, just maybe, there are better things in store for us elsewhere…then again, we could always transfer haha…keep hope alive, no matter how unrealistic it may seem…you never know (until we are rejected that is…=] )…did anybody else get any correspondence from Yale, or their Admissions Officers?

incredibly*** slim

Just as an update, I’ve also been told that they’re still oversubscribed.

Tennisfan, did you find that out by calling? I suppose Bouda’s friend must have had inaccurate information. That is a disappointment.

My friend’s info must be wrong then, if the class is still oversubscribed. I guess the situation must have changed or she must have been misinformed, because she was so incredibly excited that I don’t think she was lying to me (she’s on the waitlist too)!

I’m sorry to hear for her sake and for yours that the chances seem to be even slimmer now, but will continue crossing my fingers for everyone who is on the WL.

I was told through email by my regional AO.

Again, bouda, I appreciate your help and thoughts regardless. Unfortunately, this is all but over–alas, c’est la vie–but I think we can all take heart from lilmrali’s thoughtful post. And in the off-chance that the stars align and at least one of us is taken off, I wish you all the best of luck.

has anyone received an email from them yet?

Imagine my dissapointment when I opened my email today, only to find absolutely nothing. I wish I could just get the reject letter I could have some closure. I really want this to be over already!
