Official 2014 Coca-Cola Scholarship Thread

On the Coca-Cola site, they say we can see who was selected as a semi-finalist from each state. However, you can’t click on the states to see who was selected. Anyone have a similar issue?

I didn’t know it was online

[2014 Coca-Cola Scholar Semifinalists - Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation](<a href=“Programs - Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation”>Programs - Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation)

@thesportsman24 I have the same “problem” if you wanna call it that. It is probs just a site thing that they forgot to update, etc…

Yippie! Looks like my materials were delivered to Atlanta this morning at 6:48 am after a trip through Birmingham, Alabama. Update says it was still in Birmingham at 10:40 last night. Some great person must have realized their huge mistake and got it on its correct way.

hahaha that makes sense mich5225! Congrats on the good news!

Glad to hear it, @mich5225. Good luck to you in the competition!

Where are all y’all other semifinalists wanting to go to college?

@cusgps123

i applied to several Ivy league schools and several of the elite publics and a my instate flagship…hoping to get into atleast one private but with the competition these days, I am not expecting much…

I applied to Arizona State, Nevada, USC, Pepperdine, San Francisco State, San Jose State, and Stanford. They all had the degree I wanted. Already been accepted to Arizona State, San Francisco State, and Nevada, but I’ve also been rejected to Stanford. Still awaiting other decisions.

I applied to University of Texas @Austin, Rice university, University of Houston, Texas A&M University, Pitzer College, Sewanee: University of the South, Colorado College, Carleton College, Bowdoin College, Washington St. Louis and few others in mind. I so far have been admitted to UT- Austin, U of H, A&M, and waiting to see if I can get accepted through regular decision for the private ones as well…The long wait begins… xD

@Cuo2014 UT-Austin has a nice campus. If I could go farther away from home, I would have applied there, NYU, Harvard, Indiana, Syracuse, and Ithaca. All of them have strong sports journalism.

I’m confused on the next steps of the coca cola scholarship program…so we find out in mid January if we will receive an interview? And then they select from there who go to Atlanta?

How many get interviews?
If you get an interview will you receive money?
How many go to Atlanta?

@cusgps123
as me and thesportsman24 have mentioned before, this year’s process is alittle different. out of the 2000+ semifinalists (I forget the real number), they will select about 250 FINALISTS who have to do regional interviews. Then out of the 250, they select 150 SCHOLARS who get to go to ATLANTA. All 150 scholars get 20 grand, but after they all interview, Coke selects 10 of the 150 to get an additional 10k so 10 get 30k and 140 get 20k… Its basically less winners but those winners get more money…

@thesportsman24
You also got rejected early to stanford? sorry to hear that man but welcome to the club. I did too :frowning: but I wasn’t expecting anything anyways…

@cusgps123 Yes, our mid January notification will tell us or not if we are finalists, who then advance to an interview in their own region. There will be 250 finalists selected to receive interviews, so the probability of getting to the next round is about 1 out of 8. From the interviews, 150, or 60%, of the finalists become scholars. The scholars are the ones who are guaranteed a $20k scholarship and get to go to Atlanta. As far as I know, finalists who don’t become scholars don’t receive anything.

@matrixsurgeon Sorry you didn’t get in. I look at a college rejection as them telling you that they won’t be the best fit to enhance your career and that rejecting you is a good thing. Have to stay positive. Sorry also that I basically copied your comment describing the process. When I wrote the comment, nobody had responded.

Wow…competition will be tough. Do you know if they take a certain number from each state? And does gender/ethnicity matter?

Also…thanks for the response about the process to be a coca cola scholar

And sorry y’all didn’t get into Stanford. I know a lot of smart and well qualified individuals who didn’t get in

@cusgps123 I mentioned that either on this thread or another one, but it sounded like they do try to take people from all over the U.S. Don’t know about ethnicity or gender.

While they don’t look at gender or ethnic background, geographic diversity is a factor, but there is no set number of finalists per state.

Btw, I will be attending the University of Michigan next year :)
