How bad do you think it would look if the comments sections of the Dean’s report was left blank? The dean at my school was willing to write comments for me, but based on the description of the the Dean’s report on Georgetown’s website, he felt that it would be better if the registrar filled out the first few parts of the report and he (the Dean) fill out the comments section. The registrar filled out the first few parts and did not allow for the Dean to write anything because he said that only one person could write on it. He did not want to add anything on the comments section because he does not know me and feels that it is not needed. I offered to show him a resume, transcript, test scores, etc. but he does not want to see it. I tried to convince him that the report specifically says that comments are helpful in the admissions process. I then explained to him that because it says he can base his report off faculty comments/observations, he should do that. He declined. Would this have any effect on me being admitted/rejected?

What do you think my chances are?

i second archibald’s comment about overlap between the essays. i think i found a way to differentiate though. it requires me completely re-writing both essays (already did one, one more by saturday).
can’t wait for this stress to end so i can just chilllllll

@UNgirl That’s really freakin’ impressive. The only issue you might have with that is getting it all on the app, ironically enough. I’m not sure there’s a space to list that many achievements. I’m assuming that your essay will be about your EC’s in no small part, but even still, you couldn’t fit all that without laundry listing. As for your chances, It depends on what your SAT/ACT scores are, and what your HS transcript was like.

In the Georgetown application, we can add a CV, my CV contains it all my HS is good and college is average. @archibaldtuttle

Walked down to campus and handed in my app personally. God give me strength.

A bit late to this thread, but I did submit my app on time!

Here are my stats:
Year: Rising Sophomore, California CC
Total Completed Units: 26
Total Units: 48 (+21 from AP/IB exams = 69)
College GPA: 4.0 (300 and 400 level classes)
SAT: 1550/1600 (800 CR/750 M)
SAT II: 770 Math II
High School GPA: 3.76 UW/4.51 W (AP/IB)
HS EC: Internship at a state level legal office, 4 years Chinese Club (3 years president), 3 years FBLA (1 year each as journalist, historian, and president)
College EC: MUN, College employed tutor
HS/College EC: Piano for 14 years, Private tutor, Music based community service (work as program coordinator)
1 really strong letter of rec (English prof and research advisor), 1 solid letter of rec (MUN club advisor and poli sci prof)
Decent essays (probably not the most unique, but fairly personal)
School/Major: NHS/Health Care Management & Policy (Policy Track)

I’m so nervous! But anyways, good luck to all of us! Ah- Georgetown is my dream college!

What did you guys write about in your essays? For my first, I wrote about the legacy of the women in my family (and explained some weaknesses in my HS grades, tacky, I know). In my second, I contrasted my personal (positive) experiences with the US health care system as a frequently sick and injured person to a friend’s (negative) experience and how that inspires me to want to improve the health care system in the US.

Some really impressive people here!

Anyhow, here’s my stats:

I’m coming from a California CC, transferring to SFS.
Units completed: 33 (will be 45 by the end of this semester)
GPA: 4.0
HS GPA: I don’t remember. I graduated 10 years ago.
SAT: 2010
ACT: 30
EC: Student Veterans Organization (officer position), Persian club, and I play in a cello group.
Recs: I didn’t see most of them, but one I received from an old boss was pretty embarrassing. I mean that in a good way, since it made me sound like a superhero.
Essays: I didn’t think they were good, but the lady who helped me edit them said that they were very good. I’ll go with that.

As you can probably tell, I’m a veteran. Georgetown seems like a neat place and very vet-friendly, so it’d be nice to get in. I have decent, but not great stats, so I know my chances are not that great, realistically. But it’s like they say, “You never know until you try!”

@CelloDiego Yeah! You definitely don’t know if you don’t try!
I think you’ve got a pretty good chance of getting in. I read an article about Georgetown transfers and one of the things that admissions officers mentioned in the article is that one of the things that they really enjoy is finding students that have a wider range of life experience than those straight out of high school and that they often find interesting transfer applicants that don’t show up in the freshman applicant pool. You definitely fit into that category!
I’ve got my fingers crossed for you!

Hey guys. All your stats are looking pretty impressive and therefore intimidating… But could anyone tell me what they think my chances are?

Freshman at university of Maryland currently majoring in gov+politics…
Applied to SFS as Reg. and comp. studies
-4.0 GPA + deans list
-720 CR SAT and 690 math
-president and founder of int. affairs club in HS
-good essays, but I wrote 1.25 pages for both… Not sure how that will reflect
-good prof Rec, but dean wouldn’t even look at my rec as he doesn’t meet with students
-chairperson and team leader in Melanoma Int. Foundation

Some more but I don’t want to bore.
Any thoughts??

Thanks for the words of encouragement @Morphe . Seeing all these students on CC with incredible stats can make one’s own stats seem pretty bad in comparison. But it helps to get a reminder every once in a while that most colleges have a holistic evaluation process, and look beyond pure numbers. Thank you for that reminder.

so there’s no account we have to see if gtown received all of our stuff right?
