Official Acceptance Thread

i wonder how they determine how much the scholarships will be. my amount per semester ends in a 6. not a 5 or a 0, but a 6. weird.

also, does anyone know if we can receive more than one merit scholarship (for example, a dean's or presidential scholarship and a national merit scholarship), or if we just get the largest of the ones we're eligible for?

anyone get an acceptance today?

S got an email friday but received his admissions packet today.

Can you get need on top of merit? I think my scholarship brought me below my EFC, but my EFC was totally out of the question to begin with. I only got Dean's, and 3k of subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Could I still get a Pell or Work Study? Should I call financial aide now, (when my packet comes by mail) Or wait and talk in person when I sleep over on the 7th?

who else got a reception invite? i'm sure they were sent to everyone but no one's posted yet.

I'm looking for a pattern. Did anyone get the "you're in" e-mail on Friday who didn't get any merit aid?

DVMMOM and Oceangoddess- have either of you heard yet?

i didn't receive any merit aid afaik

i called them today and they said i'd know in 2 weeks what my package was.

i doubt i got any though because my gpa is ****.

i think the only people who heard those who were using american as a safety (i.e. me) or were URMs.

hey everyone, im from acton, ma, just got in on friday. got an invitation to a reception around here and one to admitted students day in april in dc. i'm surprised i got in, mainly because of my unfabulous gpa (3.4 weighted). i think my sats (1410) and extracurriculars are what gave me a boost. anyway, congrats to everyone else!

i doubt i got any though because my gpa is horrible.

i think the only people who heard those who were using american as a safety (i.e. me) or were URMs. the people i know for whom american is a "good match" haven't heard.

I dunno. I got merit based aid (presidential scholarship), and I thought I didnt get any need based, but now I found out they dont even have my FAFSA yet. So they are going to figure out the need based in a few weeks or so.
Im happy though! American was kind of a safety for me, but I still like it and am excited. Im not sure though but Im pretty sure that if I get into GW then I would go there if I wanted to go to school in DC. Ill have to go to those visits and whatnot though. Does anyone know how much time you have to go to those accepted students visits? If we only have the month of April to decide, does that mean you can basically only go on visits to the schools youre really interested in?

I haven't heard yet but it should be coming soon.

I didn't get any merit aid, but I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to American anyway.

AU Rocks!

Paprika - Did you think you sent your FAFSA to AU? I thought I did as well, but received no confirmation of them receiving it nor does it say they received it in my portal. I am suspicious that they did not receive it because we need to pay $6,000 more than what my EFC said.

The only reason I applied to American was because it's in D.C. and i'm a poli sci major, plus i thought i could get some merit money. And this happened: full tuition scholarship.
Any thoughts on the academics at American. I'm looking for an intellectual challenge (which HS wasn't, despite a course load of all AP's)
I'm comparing American (10,000 a year (room and board)) to Schreyer Honors at Penn State (15,000 a year) and George Washinton, NYU and Tufts, once i get my packages.

the academics are supposed to be very good: most classes are small (20-30) besides the basic required ones, a lot of professors have professional experience in the government so that should be really good for a poli sci major, AU also has a lot of connections for internships and such...im pretty sure that it is not terribly rigourous just because no one seems to complain about it

any thoughts on how it looks for grad school?

My S applied also because it was in Washington and wanted to apply to at least one there. He didn't want to apply at Georgetown or GW so he applied to American. He liked what he'd seen. He ended with the same happy problem, it was quite a surprise. He has an interest in Political Science but also wants Film. Does anyone know anything about film, Visual Media Major?

um all i know is that they have a special semester abroad program in prague for film at their dramatic arts school
