I’m not meaning to be snobby here but I’m just giving a warning since most of you are high scorers and it would be most unfortunate if your scores were cancelled. CB doesn’t directly hunt down rule breakers here. If I’m not mistaken, the moderators first give a warning for talking about the test and if you continue, then they will report you to CB. There ARE students who have had this happen to them. I recall reading a post last year in which a student told about how he was caught talking about this very exam- I’m not sure where that post is this year. I just wanted to say that the threat CB give is in fact real.

Btw, although I’m not sure exactly what we CAN discuss about the test until the embargo.

The multiple choice sections were two of the easiest tests I’ve taken. It helped that the first two questions were extremely basic stuff, they got me on a roll so to speak.

As for the FRQs, I think I did well enough for a 5. I’m sure I messed up on a few individual parts, but there were no questions that I just didn’t understand as a whole.

My friend didn’t notice the 6th FRQ until there were like 2 minutes left. Felt bad for him.

My teacher, who’s been teaching AP Calc AB & BC for 10 years now, said to my class about three times that there is no penalty for missing dx in an integral expression. She said she’s surprised that the scorers don’t penalize students for that, but that definitely works for us! :)

nobody is talking about a specific question, no rules are being broken. we are AP students, we understand simple rules…

i thought the non calculator FRQ were extremely easy but then 5 and 6 were rough.
Around how many mc can you miss to get a 5?

@whodareswins:

Thanks for your warning! I’ve been saying this as well, but looking at the posts, I don’t think anyone is talking about specific questions. However, CB does allow us to talk about the general difficulty :)

Although what you said was correct, you didn’t have to be so sarcastic about it
Sorry if I misinterpreted your message, but I think you were a little mean :/

What do you guys think the curve for a 5 will be on the Calculus AB Exam?
Most places I’ve looked have set it at 68 without a curve, so I assume they will decide after grading. What do you think the curve will now be?
I really hope it closer to 60 or at least 65…I think I’m just on the border
Do you think if the people who got 1’s and 2’s do really bad, does that affect the amount of 5’s given? I think the last 3 FRQ, #4, #5, and #6 were so puzzling…I probably made some kind of foolish mistakes on every single answer. MC wasn’t that good either… I’m rly hoping for around 32-35

@naokifresh:
Since a lot of people said that this test was hard, I would say the cutoff for a 5 would be like a 60. But you also have to keep in mind that there is no longer a guessing penalty, so 65(plus/minus 2) would be a good guess.

Personally, I hate this new rule. It messes up the curve, and even if there was a penalty, you should never skip. According to statistics, out of 5 questions, if you guess on all of them (1/5 chance), then you will get at least 1 correct. So 4 wrong (-1/4) +1 would be a net yield of 0.

So guessing can only help you, not hurt. And for most questions, you can eliminate minimum of one answer increasing your odds. So even if there was a penalty, I would never skip.

But this new rule is dumb because it messes up the curve…

I thought the test was relatively difficult compared to previous years’, but then again, I didn’t study at all… So I’m hoping for a good curve.

Based upon everyone’s reactions, I am pretty sure the curve for FR will make up for some of our general mistakes.

But what do you guys think about this FR compared to last year’s? Was this too difficult or too easy (in comparison)?

I agree…Non-calc MC were hard for me, but calc MC were a breeze. and then frq’s…T_T

JohnnyHoppy: I have done the past FRQ and I found the 2011 FRQ to be more difficult.

I’m just kind of worried that it could all be our impression that is was super hard… because I basically just memerized the old exams free response, but to those taking it then it could’ve felt so new and seemed so hard/unsolvable too ? :/

@Bioboy12 ah even closer to 65 is better. That means we need at least 30~32 on both MC (unmultiplied) and FR for a 5

I’m in IB Calculus (not AP), and I have to say this test was a lot harder than I expected. My teacher told me I’d probably get a 5 (I’m doing super super well in her class, and its not a class to be taken lightly), but I just have no clue now. I took 2 practice tests from a book she gave me and definitely scored high enough to get a 5 on those, but this test kicked my butt. I’m not confident about ANY of my answers, but I had answers for all the FRQs except like 2 subquestions. Idk how AP scores stuff but maybe they will give me something? I don’t know if AP just teaches different stuff than IB or if this test was way harder than the tests she gave me. Sounds to me like this was just a harder test than previous years. I hope thats the case and the curve is really low I just have no clue. I could get anywhere from a 3 to a 5.

1-3 were fine. 4-6 AHAHAHAH try again. For some reason, I found that 5 wasn’t extremely difficult. The first part was a little tricky, but I think I got it. 2nd part, was hard. The last part was just separation of variables. I like those, because they’re straightforward. For me, at least. I had a lot of trouble with the last one. I kept getting answers in terms of cosine and pi added to other whole numbers, and I wasn’t sure if I should simplify them or not since it was the non calculator portion. It was weird.

I feel like the standout relative to most posts here.
I thought the non-calc MC was relatively easy. I don’t remember the exact number of guesses but probably around 4.
I thought the calc MC was more difficult compared to the above. I definitely thought I knew how to do one of the problems but the answer I kept getting, at least 3 times +, wasn’t one of the choices. I wasted a decent amount of time on this problem. I probably ended up having to guess about on about 4 also.
I think I killed the FR. The only one I didn’t know what to do at first glance was #5 and I just skipped over it right away to go to #6. Then I went back and realized what to do. I feel very confident in my FR (even more so then the MC) and the only thing that may doom me is the long arithmetic work involved in a few of the answers. I may have over simplified and made a few mistakes with that essentially screwing my self which isn’t good.

nerdherd14 -
I know!!! I got cos-1 when working that problem out, and I mistakenly thought in a hurry that it was equal to pi! ■■■ :(

someone grow a pair nd start sharing answers. i wanna see how well i guessed.

@ FRESHcollegeman1

hahahahhahaha

honestly, my teacher gave us so many practice frq’s from previous years that this test was a breeze. it didn’t seem any harder than other year’s frq’s and the only ones that tripped me up were because i read the question wrong and once i reread it it actually took like two seconds. it definitely helps to have a good teacher, because my other ap’s were so much more difficult for me!
