If only hard work never went unrewarded...

its true, but a pocket positive is always something nice to have =)

"To those of you who keep saying the exam was easy and a joke, well, your either not telling the truth because in actuality you did horrible or you simply think you did well but actually didn't."
Just because you thought it wasn't easy doesn't mean it wasn't. Some people have strengths in different areas. For someone who is getting "within 4 points of 100", your performance on this test is shabby at best. I felt this test was not difficult, and everyone i've talked to agrees.

Pretty sure I'm getting a five. Answered all the MC's with time to spare although there were 3-4 where I had to guess between two answers.

The FRQ's were a completely different story. Had never done the sort of equilibrium for problem A, so I did an unnecessarily large amount of math. I ran out of time before really starting the 3rd problem of Part B Part I.

DId the essays quickly for part II (sufficient :S) and then went back to the 3rd problem and answered everything in terms of other things (as no calculator), except the very last question

:(

But despite the time related worries I'm pretty sure I'm getting the vast majority of the stuff right.

what score do you think you need to average for each free response question in order to put you in the five range?

i left at least three letters completely blank because of time and i'm a little worried...

i agree with stephenn..

basicallly pretty much very easy, except part B wasnt as fun.

No, the test wasn't easy at all. That's why 9/10 of people get less than 70% on it.

In my case, our teacher did not discuss electrochemistry at all in class, so I was completely clueless on that question. Also, I made a compendium of stupid mistakes (for example, mistaking He for Ne in that multiple choice question -- why do "N" and "H" have to look so much alike?!). I thought the conceptual questions were relatively straightforward, although some were ambiguous and poorly designed (such the graduated cylinder vs. pipet question, or the one about the transferral of electrons in that redox reaction). The mathematical questions had a number of pitfalls into which you could fall, but weren't too complex. Overall, I'd say this test was relatively easier than the ones administered in previous years, but it was nonetheless difficult; I certainly didn't get a 5.

@ all the questions about possible scores, use the scale given above to approximate. 50% of the test is multiple choice, 50% is free response. In 2002, the max score was 120 so estimate what your free response score is out of 60 and then add that your multiple choice score. And see what your "score" corresponds to on the 1-5 scale

MC was definitely better than the FR for me. I PRAY that I received partial credit on the FRQ's though I doubt I got a PERFECT grade on any one of the FRQs. Whatever, I'm not going to stress about it.

Did anyone else think there was an error on FRQ #6 the last part? I looked up the boiling points and swear I wasn't reading it wrong.

What were the actual boiling points?

"To those of you who keep saying the exam was easy and a joke, well, your either not telling the truth because in actuality you did horrible or you simply think you did well but actually didn't. AP tests are not designed to be easy at all, they are designed to challenge the takers of it and to give the College Board a good idea of what teachers are teaching. If it was as easy as you think it was, then everyone would get a five."

First of all, you have to remember that this is CC and represents a very skewed sample of all the AP Chem test takers. It is quite possible that a majority of the students who will get a five, post on this board.

Second, it's a little silly to call everyone who thought this exam was easy a liar or wrong. I too thought it was very easy with the amount/type of studying I did beforehand. This test has to be easy for someone or no one would get a five.

On another note, I left about five blank on multiple choice with maybe 10 guesses, the rest I was fairly confident on. The general consensus from other students in my class was that it was challenging, but not impossible.

On the FRQ, there was only one part of each question that would catch me offguard. Usually the last part of a question. I was surprised how quickly things came back to me, even if I didn't study them purposely for the AP.

Does anyone know the curve from last year? I'd imagine it is a little different from previous years because of the changes they made to the exam structure.

i totally agree with you, makechilli&dance.

after all, SOMEONE has to get a 5 right?
so dont call someone a liar just 'cause they thought the test was "easy."
maybe their AP Chem class was very thorough.

If hard work was proportional to success, and lack of hard work was inversely proportional to success, i should just give up now

for me

mc was 70 out of 75, probably missed 15 (safe side)

frq

1st one: good, one careless mistake in calc
2nd one: good again
3rd one: BEST one ever
predicting reactions: i think i got 2/3 on the reactions....idk
5th one: about half and half....i drew the wrong lewis dot
6th one: 2/4 at best lol.....yeah....i hate chemistry theory

Overall....i wouldnt say it was SUPER easy or super hard.....but it was a fair test

to each their own, its just a saying that gets me through the cramming before tests.

Yeah, compared to previous years, I thought this one was quite easy. To be sure, I thought that the MC was pretty tough and vague. I answered all of them, but was unsure of 14, 5 of which I was quite shakey on. Still think I can get 60-67 out of 75.

But the FRQ was really easy. I can't really say it any other way. It could have been made much more difficult (there was question on a practice, prbly Barrons, that we got in our Independant Study (name for AP Chem review) that had some strange organic half reaction we had to make a galvanic cell out of do some reaction or something with. It was awful.) but was quite straight forward. Part b was a little tougher but still straight forward.

But remember, just because the test was easy doesn't mean a 5 will be. The curve will probably be in the neighborhood of 70-72% this year in order to compensate (unless a lot of people did poorly on the MC which is possible. It was tough).

I thought it was okay until part B. Part B was hell.

MC for me was easy-ok. I skipped 6, and I know for sure I got at least 45 right. The rest I could knock off some choices and made good guesses.

Part A was good. Question 1, 2, and 3 I could answer.

So I guess a 3-4?

Right, but to say something like this:

...is a little ridiculous. In past years, the cutoff for a 5 has been 100 or 101, so you're calling anything less than a 5 "shabby"?

nooo i screwed up FR :p
