OFFICIAL AP Chemistry thread

mflevity, i think he was referring to his class. as in 96%.

to mflevity i think shes talking about her class average

but then again the ap is so that colleges can see what exactly your grades mean. i could get a 99 in ap chem but get a 1 on the ap.... that definitely tells colleges something is up.

I see...never mind.

I talked to a girl in my AP chem class who thought it was "very easy." She's said that about most of the tests in our class, and she's done very poorly on most of them.

I thought it was challenging. I'm concerned I fell into traps on the MC. I left 4 blank and guessed on about 10 or so (I'm sure a few of those were wrong). The FRQ's were pretty simple. I think I made minor calculation errors on a few questions (i.e. putting the wrong number into my calculator), which were silly, but at least I can earn a decent amount of partial credit.

To those people who said it was super-easy and got offended when they were told not to brag about it, I'm just saying that you or your class could have been more thoroughly prepared than others... it's just that you're rubbing it in the faces of those less prepared.

Again, I thought the test was challenging, but all-around definitely do-able.

i must admit, when i first get tests i always think they are EXTREMELY hard and blank and have a panic attack and i smack myself out of it and realize that its not so bad and in fact is easier than most of my teachers tests. (my teacher usually has 3 question tests that are the lengthiest tests anyone will take ever in high school.... if you get one wrong you basically fail.)

Hmmm..., everyone is saying the first three were easy, but I messed up 2 badly, somehow >_<. The two questions, however, were complete jokes.

I hated the equilibrium question - the one topic that I could not do. I sort of bs'ed it somehow but that really threw me. Completely ****ed off about that. A lot of theoretical stuff after that, but I think I salvaged a 75% on the FRQ and the MC was a lot easier. This test could have been worse I guess.

Just to make sure, in lewis dot structures a bar tangent to an atom can represent a pair of unshared electrons, correct? as opposed to 2 dots. I prefer the bar because it's quicker to write. Other than that, 5.

I'm predicting a 4. I honestly believe I got 90% of the possible points on the MC and maybe 50-65% on the FRQ. I don't know why but equilibrium always freaks me out, and the hydrated sample lab question was *** difficult for me. If I get a 4 though I might not apply to Georgia Tech because 4 = no credit :(.

I wish I could say it was easy. But I messed up the first FRQ and then I couldn't get the right number for the first part of the second FRQ either. After the first part of the second one i think it went alright.

When you guys are saying easy do you mean like 100% for sure....or does that mean u guys got like 80%ish easy...
Cause i am hoping for like 60%ish on the FRQ

I did think that the multiple choice was pretty easy though.....is there any way i could get a 5 with a 60% on the free response?

er all i ll say for the FRQ is, expect the unexpected. Nobody believed me when i said that number 4 would have something like its reaction a. Lucky me that i studied. Number 4 part b was confusing to me though. The equilibrium was definitely unexpected. On the MC, i skipped about 15. Guessed about 10. FRQ, i got most of it right i hope. Skipped a subparts. Hoping for a 4.

well the mc was a little harder than expected, meaning i prob got a 45 raw score. The calc part of the frq i thought was a joke but the non-calc part was hard. I COMPLETELY forgot about IMFs, so i don't think i really got any points there.

i wouldn't really say any of it was super difficult, and i'm just glad a lot of the things i studied (i.e. crammed) were on there. i know i missed a few mc, and probably a few parts on one or two of the frq's, but all in all it was nothing to freak out about. hooray for partial credit. (: pretty confident about a 5? (knock on wood)

I'm predicting a 4. I honestly believe I got 90% of the possible points on the MC and maybe 50-65% on the FRQ.
hey!!! me too i want to go to georgia tech...and yeah...that sucks that you HAVE to get a five for credit in chemistry....oh well....i guess i will find in july...

What kind of things do you get partial credit for?

pretty good overall...few stupid MC's that got me (thinking 50+ raw score on MC...like 3 skipped and >5 and <15 wrong). FRQ 1 was actually a lot easier than equilibrium problems I've been practicing. FRQ 2 was really easy. FRQ 3 was also really easy. Basically, calc FRQs were pretty straightforward and easy. FRQ 4 eqns were fine and some explanations were easy (one sucked). FRQ 5-6 were challenging, but I'm pretty sure I beat 60% on each with partial credit. Overall, a lot easier than I thought it would be which was fine with me!

if you got the first part wrong and did the other parts right, you get partial credit. If you messed up one component of a calculation but did the rest right that also calls for partial credit. As long as you show work they'll probably give you something

does anybody know what the point breakdown is to get a 5?

A couple years ago it was about 65% of the possible points to get a 5.
