thanks man.

Hey;

I just wanted to tell everyone good luck. I applied last year as a transfer to Brown and I used this site a lot for my application so I just wanted to come back and see if anyone had any questions. I was accepted as a fall transfer. Plan on hearing back from Brown around May 13 as this was the date my acceptance letter was dated last year. To give you guys a round about, there were around 1000 applicants last year.
Keep in mind that that transfers are generally required to live in university housing.
For some reason they only allotted me 4 course credits when I had a bunch of AP credits so make sure you check up on that so they don’t rip you.
In the end, I turned down Brown as I realized it was way too expensive and I didn’t quite like it up there when I actually went to the school over the summer. Also, getting screwed over by Harvard last year kind of turned me off from transfering so I stayed at my current school and carried on all the stuff I started as a freshman. So moral of the story even if you get in, make sure you are not giving up a good thing at your current school.
Also, I know you will ask anyway so I’ll tell you off the bet…so I go to Emory on a scholarship and my stats were/are pretty good, but I’m sure they take an assortment of kids.

Any questions ask…

Thread revival!

im thinking about applying to brown as a junior transfer this fall for economics. right now ive finished macro and micro econ, 2 quarters of calculus, and a year of accounting. My gpa is somewhere around 3.85-3.9. I have a few ec’s, my hs gpa was around 3.5-3.6 with a few ap’s , and my SAT was 1580 out of 2400 (i know it sucks) and my act was 28. Im also transferring from a community college in california.

should i even waste my time for brown?

Also, ive only recently decided that i want to try for schools outside of california, but the thing is im a sophomore right now, and if i apply this fall it will be my 3rd year at my community college. so would i be eligible to apply for junior transfer? i have not taken any upper division classes at all.

thanks

so…brown only mails decisions?

Does Brown just take forever to update received things on their site? Because I had to resend something that they apparently didn’t get, so I sent it last monday but it’s still not updated on the website. Should I call? Resend it AGAIN? I’m reluctant to resend again since it’s the high school report and I don’t know if I should ask my counselor to do it for the third time…

you should call. they are very friendly and helpful. i had a question and i wasn’t on hold for very long, and they answered informatively.

I would do anything possible to get into Brown as a transfer… ANYTHING. im an international who sent them his SAT scores but decided not to apply in the end. haha. I really want it though. Brown, with the open curriculum and providence etc etc. I want Brown. Period(.)

why did you decide not to apply in the end?

btw, anyone wanna say anything interesting about themselves (this doesn’t have to be taken seriously with regard to academics)

i.e i really enjoy sleeping in bed after all the sheets and pillows are freshly laundered and warm. lol. :)

haha ditto ^

Because everything on my application sucked haha. I wasnt very focused in highschool but atleast I know what I am capable of and what I can and can not do. This next time is going to be different. Its amazing how people can aspire to change and further themselves. Im an international by the way, didnt make it into NYU this year (top choice) so im staying in my country for one or two years then im applying to a plethora of good schools next year, including Brown, NYU and many others. Share your stories people!!!

english major at yale, trying to get out. absurdly competitive there. lots of old money, haughtiness, pretension…sick of it. also, new haven, outside of yale, is a cultural wasteland, and there is no hope for its revival. i have a lot of friends at brown, it’s beautiful, and providence is wonderful. one of my favorite cities. will miss the pizza here.

does anyone know when the decision will be up ?

aubeardsley AHH OMG, you’re trying to get out of YALE? i know people should find their "fit’, but yale is so amazing (from my perspective). i love the gothic architecture and their giant indoor gym and gourmet heaven and even the shakespeare lady! (connecticut is my favorite state in the US, with california in a very close second lol) if i got into brown i would trade places with you in a heartbeat! that being said, if you’re transferring from yale, i’m sure you have amazing credentials and brown would be lucky to have you :)

too much old money…woe to those surrounded by polite, well-bred students

decisions are released fairly soon, who else is excited!?

everyone is excited, i think :-)

excited, or nervous? i associate excitement with things like christmas and competitive sports. i’m much more nervous about decision letters than i am excited lol…

When are decisions to be released? DO you think that the admissions department would still be willing to read through a letter I wrote detailing my continued interest?
