Official Brown 2015 WAITING Room (for wait-listers only)

I don’t think that they send out “likely letters” for waitlisted students. Mail is strange- yours is probably on the way. Also, I see that you’ve been admitted to Penn =) Congrats and good for you, even if you don’t get into Brown, you’ll still have a great college experience (and your self-esteem is probably a lot higher than mine is at the moment). Really, we all have great schools listed and we’re all going to be ok. What we should all really be doing now is focusing on our AP exams (I’m taking 7. Ick.)

That being said about this probably not being a waitlisting likely letter, I’m still too nervous to check the mail. I want to approach the waitlisting process more calmly than I approached the application process, but thus far it’s not really working. After May 15 rolls around, I think I’m going to block CC on my computer and never, ever go on here again.

for everyone worrying about sending in letters, you’re not supposed to and it does not increase your chances of getting in. I just talked with my interviewer and admission told this alum that they did not want any additional information from the waitlisted students. you’re just supposed to sit and wait.

Thanks and yeah I’m going to do so bad on the AP exams, I’ve slacked off this entire year, I think I’m just going to try to get a refund for all of them this week.

alecreplied,

I would pretty much agree other than the following 2 things:

you are committing to the school if accepted. This probably only holds any weight if you have a reputed college counselor at the school who can contact admissions people to back your word.

you have won some award/competition or had some major accomplishment between whenever you last communicated with the school and now.

And also, if it’s 1 page or less it can’t hurt

Anyone else get that letter? I still haven’t received one.

shaheirunderdog- I haven’t received anything yet either. I did receive confirmation via email that the admissions office had received my letter though. So…
I’m thinking about taking myself out of all of my waitlists to be honest. I’d rather be left in limbo thinking I might have gotten in than receive three more rejections, especially since I’d doubt I’d receive a feasible financial aid package from any of the schools. At the same time, I would like to go to all of the schools I’m waitlisted at, even if it means taking out loans.

^ I received that confirmation email when I emailed my letter also, if we didn’t recieve that other letter from Brown itself, I’m assuming it has to mean something, also you’re better off just staying on the wait list and seeing what happens, because you could also be left in the limbo of “what if?”.

I feel like a school like Brown that probably has a somewhat unpredictable yield as far as majors and geography goes probably wouldn’t even know yet how many people are being taken in off the waitlist and what the distribution by geography and major is, so the letters probably don’t mean too much. For example- I’m a female history major from NJ (read: not getting off waitlist because there are so many female college applicants from NJ and history is a popular major). They probably don’t know how many history majors there are accepting the spot, so even if those letters mean anything (which I doubt they do), they wouldn’t send one to me unless they were sure I was the one person who was their #1 choice to take the one spot. On the other hand, if the one kid from Alaska who was accepted already declined admission, they’re going to turn to the waitlist already and give out letters. In short- I really don’t think these letters mean anything, and if they do, I’m sure they really haven’t looked at the waitlist yet except for special cases of legacy or people who fulfill a really unusual niche.

Hey, new member/fellow wait-lister here
I haven’t received ‘said letter’ in the mail just yet, but i’m sure it’s a standard letter and no worries should be in order. Anywho, I’m about ready to send my person letter to Brown. Any recommendations as to sending it to my regional advisor or directly to admissions office?
Best of luck to us all!

im a fellow waitlisted student as well… may 1st has come and gone so excited to see if they will use the waitlist this year  good luck to everyone!

When will we be able to know if the Waitlist will be used or not?

has anyone heard of any movement on the waitlist?
Would it be too soon to send an email asking if they know whether or not they’ll be using it this year?

I just logged into my Brown admissions portal, and there was some sort of update, the the “committed to Brown’s Waiting List” part is not there anymore. Now it’s just “Admission Decisions are currently not available”.

Maybe that’s a good sign  mine still has committed to waiting list so idk. and i think they will be using the waitlist this year. if you look at the official facebook group for the class of 2014 and 2015, the class of 2015 has less students than the class of 2014 official facebook. but who knows!

I wouldn’t read into it or want to break your heart, but that’s what mine says too. I’m a committed student.

mine “commited to Brown’s waitlist” is still there :S

^ I doubt it means anything, but I’m just curious as to why it disappeared on my account and not others, did anyone else’s disappear also?

guitarclassical does yours still say committed to waitlist or does it not? sorry i was confused by your post.

^ His says the something mine does.

“Admission Decision not available” and he’s a committed student to Brown, mine says the same thing but I’m currently wait listed.

“Committed to wait list” was never on his account as he was already accepted and it disappeared on my account.

I just checked mine and the committed to wait-list has disappeared too. I’m thinking they might just have changed everyone’s maybe.
