Official Brown Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

By some miracle–accepted! Fall 2013 as a sophomore (although that first semester abroad sounds really tempting…) I honestly was not expecting to get in given my stats haha, here they are if anyone is interested:

SAT: 2120
SAT II: 740 US Hist, 700 Literature

High school info: public, 4.825 (weighted), ranked 1, valedictorian (there were a dozen of us though), drum major, IB diploma, swim team 4 years

College info: Wellesley College, GPA 3.55 first semester, major undecided but thinking about linguistics and/or anthropology

Experience: lifeguarded back at home and at college pool, interned/volunteered at museum during break, helped a professor with research this semester

Essays: Honestly thought they were slightly dry because I was more focused on being clear than trying to be really creative, but I did like my “What do you plan to study and why?” essay.

Applied for financial aid: Yes

Brown has been my first choice school ever since my senior year–I applied for Fall 2012 but was waitlisted, so I think that might have had some bearing on being accepted. I also made a trip down to Providence in February and talked to an admissions officer. And I contacted Brown a lot, as in calling them with a lot of questions (not disturbingly frequently though). In my application I kept emphasizing that Brown was and has been my first choice, and I think that really helped!

Regardless of what decision you received, you all still are brilliant! :)

@appassionata: How much will you be receiving for financial aid?

I saw in this article [Transfer apps rise by 20 percent ? Brown Daily Herald](Transfer apps rise by 20 percent - The Brown Daily Herald) that $400,000 of financial aid was offered to transfer students in 2011.

So I made a transfer facebook group. Feel free to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/156037187902055/

@metathesis: I have a few thousand dollars in loans, and the Brown grant was a few grand per semester, which is starkly less than the financial aid I’m receiving now at my current school. If you want more specifics feel free to PM me!

Thanks mate. For those who are still awaiting decisions, I wish you all the best of luck.U guys are all awesome peeps and I have no doubt y’all will kick a** no matter where u go. Owh and btw, has anyone received the admitted package?

@Mygeeto Not yet.

Is enrollment deposit needed for Brown? They only mentioned the commitment card thing in the letter.

I’m pretty sure Brown has no deposit. I think they’re one of the only colleges that doesn’t require one when you commit.

Can someone post the waitlist letter? I called and they gave me my decision and they have had some technical difficulties uploading my letter to the selfservice page. Thanks!

Rejected. I was completely crushed yesterday. However, I got accepted into my second choice school, so all is well! Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!

Anyone received the package? I am from CA and nothing here.

Thanks @hetorogen and @sakari
Owh btw guys, i know this is a stupid question, but the entire feeling of admission is just too surreal to me (I’ve gotten all rejections during freshman year, so yeah) and it’s making me paranoid. In the admission letter, no where is it stated the exact term in which you are accepted. But it was stated that my entrance time would be September 2013. That pretty much means I’m admitted into the Fall semester right? Again, sorry this question is just stupid, i know. -.-

Yes. September 2013 is presumably when Brown starts in the fall. Some of them start a bit later, which is why it’s September, not August. Don’t worry! Relax and enjoy your summer. You deserve it! :)

@Sakari, Thank you so so much. I shall pray for your admittance from the waitlist. :D

Perhaps it’s a lil late, but condolences to those rejected, u guys will do well in life regardless where u go to. And to those accepted, can;t wait so see you guys in Providence.

@lumberjack23: I am from Nevada and my family (I’m still at school) hasn’t received the package yet either. Hopefully it’ll come tomorrow or Friday by the latest!

Accepted Brown CS!! Still waiting for Cornell though. Don’t know which is better:(

Were the admission packages mailed to our home address or mailing address? Thank you. CA, nothing yet.

^CA here too, nothing. I called the admission office, got two phone numbers and was told to call if package doesn’t arrive tomorrow. I will keep you posted.

Thank you for sharing the info!

anyone have any idea about the scale of waitlist this year? it seems that the list is hugh this year

anyone here hav any advice on which i shud pick?really confused. :(
