I was wondering if anyone thinks that I have a chance of ANY scholarship money…

GPA: 3.75
SAT: CR (610) M (580) W (630)
Teacher recs: Should be very good…haha
Extra Curricular: Field hockey, lacrosse, Junior Statesman of America, 12 years of formal piano lessons
Work Experience: Cashier at food store (2 yrs), Medical billing and filing at doctors office
Location:NJ
Class rank: top 30 percent

Compared to everyone else my stats are pretty bad, but is there any chance of a partial scholarship?? I got my acceptance letter in the mail on Friday. I was accepted to PITT’s pre-pharmacy program…I do not think its conditional… does anyone have any information on the non-conditional students in pre-pharm as well?

Students without the pharmacy guarantee take the same classes as those with the guarantee (and pretty much the same classes as anyone going into the medical field) for the first two years. The only difference is that you have NO guarantee of getting into Pitt’s pharmacy school. It will depend on your GPA, PCAT, and interview and is reportedly extremely competitive.

joshyo10, the scholarship stuff came about three weeks after the acceptance letter.

Donnamom, to be completely honest I was a little surprised at first (I know how arrogant that sounds), but not after doing a little more research. Keep in mind that my GPA is not in the top 5% of my class. In addition two students from my school with higher GPAs also applied to Pittsburgh.

I’m definitely looking forward to those Chancellor’s essays, they have some very interesting prompts.

Um wombatsoup, you only got $2k IS? What’s the most someone can get as an IS applicant? Your stats totally trump mine when I applied (full tuition) and I came from a magnet school class of 66 and I doubt I was in the top 5% of that. Do you know the SAT scores of the students who applied from your school with higher GPAs?

I would try and appeal for more cash if serious about Pitt.

Wombatsoup - our HS doesn’t rank not sure how that effects scholarship $$, but the 2K still seems low. Unless it is becasue they want to recruit OOS students and because the IS tuition is already reasonable.

My son liked the topics as well. I think he really enjoyed writing those essays.

DECISION: ACCEPTED! (A&S + honors college)
submitted app: 10/25, received acceptance 11/13, received honors letter 11/27

SAT: 2140 730CR 670M 740W
SAT IIs: I scored poorly on them so I didn’t submit
GPA: uw: 3.74, w: 4.33
Rank: school doesnt rank
Other stats: 5 on ap psych exam (the one ap I took prior to senior year lol)

Essays: pretty good I believe
Teacher Recs: awesome (they love me haha)
Counselor Rec: he seems to like me, so I’ll assume it was good
Hook (if any): My intended major is Japanese, but I don’t know if that would make a difference. Other than that, I’m Jewish? lolol

State or Country: Maryland
School Type: Public (very competitive)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Other Factors: I only have one EC but I’ve done it since the start of my freshmen year and it has been very intense
General Comments: It’s been a month now so I’m doubtful I’ll get any money, but I still really want to attend Pitt!

Don’t give up on money, Kokeshi. If you look at the Merit Thread you’ll see that my OOS daughter just got the $10,000 scholarship with similar SAT and GPA stats to yours. (Her weighted GPA is lower but her school weights things in a strange way) She had a 34 ACT but that didn’t seem to push her into the full tuition category. She has/is taking 8 AP’s total in high school. Keep hoping, I think you have a good chance for some money! You might want to email your admissions person (goes by your last name) and inquire if you still have a chance at any scholarship money. Good luck!

thanks, that makes me feel a bit better! still, i dont want to call Pitt about it because I’m afraid it’ll appear I’m bothering them and then I’ll get nothing haha

You know, we are like that too. We didn’t want to annoy anyone and we aren’t big on calling and bugging people at all…but…after waiting and waiting my daughter and I decided it might be good to just email and say how interested in the school she is,etc and ask if there was any hope at all left for any scholarship money since so much time had gone by, while stating that she knows nothing is guaranteed or expected, etc. Well, she emailed them on Dec 3rd and the scholarship letter was dated Dec 7th. Now, it could be a total coincidence, but who knows…maybe, just maybe, they took a look at her file and saw how she really wants to go there, saw her stats and reevaluated. So, it might be worth a shot. Sending one email isn’t like you are constantly contacting them and becoming a nuisance or anything. Best of luck with whatever you decide though.

I got my formal acceptance to the honors college today. Does this usually come at the same time as scholarship notifications? In the acceptance letter I thought it implied that they would come together.

[ *] Counselor Rec: Very good most likely.
[ *] Hook (if any): Ehh, well I’m my school’s student body president & I’m heavily involved in a good amt. of other activities… I guess?

[ b]General Comments:[ /b] Surprised I got in with my GPA but I guess my decent SAT scores and great extracurriculars were what got me over the hump. And to anyone thinking about applying whose GPA may not be a 3.7/8+ or may not have taken all honors courses, let me serve as an example that you might just want to apply also. You never know. 8)
