have any engineering applicants heard back yet?

^ See the first page of this thread, where yosup was accepted :)

ok, let me rephrase that then. I’m OOS and basically a shoo-in for engineering with my scores, NMF, and GPA. Are there any OOSers who have already gotten accepted for Engineering?

^ Yes. On page 2, hotfuturengineer got in, and she is from NY.

I applied late august and did not hear back, 3.9 gpa 27 act applying to nursing, but my friend applied at the same time and received a decision with the first batch with a 28 act and 4.0 gpa applying to LSA

^ I wouldn’t worry, rkgotitans. Your stats are a solid match for the nursing school, and I have confidence that you will get in, probably in the next batch.

How do you guys think the admission process actually works? it is such a mystery to me. I mean of course they give you some information on umich.edu, but there is so much more behind it. I’m not sure if there ACT range, 28-32, but i assume, is 25th to 75th percentile. that means though there is a considerable number of kids who get in with a 24-27 ACT scores. I feel if someone posts a number like that on this forum, they get shot down immediately (I’m one of them). If I do get in (fingers crossed) it’ll be interesting to compare myself to other kids on this forum who perhaps didn’t get in, assumably with better numbers, not being cocky, but just to break down how this process actually works.

^^^ Mech, you do realize the majority of kids who get in that have an test scores/GPAs in the <25%, they usually have hooks, such as a recruited athlete, URM, Big donor to the school, and even geography…

If you’re just a normal kid with some decent ECs…it gets kind of competitive if you score at that level.

Not saying you won’t get in, just trying to give you some more info =P. Good luck!

3.1 GPA, 33 ACT, In-State. ~25k income. Im screwed.

ok yes id be one of those kids. I posted a chance thread and everyone told me slight reach and that i prob wont get in. i was admitted oct 22 so boo ya quick stats-2010 sat gpa-3.6 uw 3.85w from nj. dont let what people think of your chances get to you its all on the decision of the admissions people. a girl last year from my school got in with 1150 sat and 3.6 w gpa

ha yeah i know guys. i’m a legacy, but my big hook is my pure love for the university. Ever since I was a kid, the university has meant so much to me. my dad would sit me in front of the tv to watch the Maize and Blue on every Saturday. I always thought that was where i would go, but when i averaged around a 2.8 my first three semesters of high school, it became apparent that this might not happen. But to make a long story short, i turned myself around thanks to the University of Michigan. It served as my motivation, and i can’t describe how much love this university. When people ask me if i like any girl, i always respond “I’m in love with a girl named Ann Arbor, she lives in Michigan.” The only clothes I where are Maize and Blue, and that caught the attention of my school paper who published a story about me and the university (story sent by my counselor in my lor) I also made it clear in the ‘setback’ essay. I worked my tail off to improve my ACT from a 24 to a 26 to show them i am somewhat smart. so hopefully this will all pay off

I really hope you get in!

@MechiganBoy: I hope it all pays off for you, my friend. I don’t believe in things like fate but if you’ve been able to show us in one paragraph how much you want to attend this institution, I believe you’ve been able to put together a compelling case in your U-M app. Good luck and if you’re an ER applicant, I hope you (and I) will find out soon enough. :)

thanks guys, luck to all of us!

Mech boy I TOTALLY agree with you man. I think some people on here overexaggerat how tough it really is to get in. Honestly, if you put up a 3.6/3.7 w and put up some good score on your ACT/SAT you’ll be fine!! In my case im from NJ and have a 3.7 w and a 33/36 (1490/1600 SAT) and the coach who is recruiting me (even though its club it still gives me help in admissions) basically said he’d be very surprised if I didn’t get in. Those with 4.0’s and 13 AP courses with 2010’s need to chillax cause unless they really screw up on their essays, they’ll get in! Of course this is all just my opinion :).

MechiganBoy,
Legacy is also a hook. It is stated on the UofM web site.

Good luck.

Thanks guys!
Is it just me or are there no other lagacies on the UMich forum? whenever people show their stats it seems like I never see legacy listed?

Exactly i totally agree its not as hard as you would think i did get in and my starts arent incredible theyre pretty average.
To Michiganboy- where can I buy a Maize Rage t-shirt i cant seem to find them anywhere

I’m a legacy! I have mad love for the maize and blue.

Well, all of my things were in by the 10/29. So I’m hoping I’ll get something in 2 weeks?

But idk, they recently announced THEY’RE NO LONGER RECALCULATING GPA’S. So w/ me changing schools and kinda low-ish GPA, OOS, and 30 ACT…idk…I just hope they look at something more than the numbers…

Gah. I really want to get in.
