on my application, it says that my self determined residency is in-state but my u of m determined residency is out of state. Will I be considered an out of state applicant? I know its much harder to get in as OOS

Yes you will, you should get that corrected for you meet the requirements for in-state

Maybe cause I heard public schools need to meet state requirement and accept more in state.

I called the residency office because I reported the same thing, and they said it’s situational - obviously if your transcripts and activities are all in-state they will take this into consideration when they look at your residency.

Well might aswell cycle

Yeah, I second that. As long as you meet all the requirements for in-state, and went to a Michigan high school, you should be fine. It’s just a matter of paperwork, and the admission officers know that and will still consider you as in-state. But you should still send out the forms to prove your residency and get the status changed, although the chat support lady told me that can take up to several months.

The confirmation email I received on 11/13 was:
"We are pleased to confirm that your University of Michigan freshman application is complete and will be reviewed in our Early Action program.

We will contact you if we need any additional information and appreciate your patience as we review your application. Your decision will be released by December 24, 2013."

So I’m still hoping for a decision soon!

Hey Y’all. I just made an account.
I wanted to let you all know that I got the same email as the previous guy mentioning a decision in January. imgur/ FoWT3ov for the email

Also, will a deferral mean they want you to submit semester grades?

@willium it depends on the school. Illinois told me not to

Yes, they will look at those regardless. They rescind a very very small portion of decisions based on senior year grades, or ask for an explanation for multiple C’s or a D

Thanks!
Another question: Did anyone else applying to CoE do a HAIL interview? imgur/ 7BRCfn4

I wonder how many total apps there will be this year. Looks like there will be easily over 50,000, if the 30,000 EA apps number is correct.

What’s a HAIL interview? I applied CoE and I’ve never heard of it. No one else I know who applied had one not has anyone I know in the CoE

You have to be in Chicago/NY/SanFran apparently and I’m not, so I’m not eligible for the HAIL interview thing. Seems interesting though.

I did a HAIL interview. Although I know a different kid who applied to Engineering from my high school who didn’t even get invited to do one. Does anyone know exactly how people were selected for the interview process? Is it a bad thing or good thing to have been selected?

Can someone explain what the HAIL interview is?

It’s a pilot program. I did one, and I live in the SF Bay Area. My interviewer said it was something they were trying out because people in Mich (in state) had access to the admissions dept. a lot more, and they wanted to extend OOS outreach.

Oh I see that makes sense! That seems like a good program. As an in state resident, I know there are many opportunities to visit the university for CoE walking tours or this program called tech day. I can see how that would be very beneficial for an oos student

I should’ve wrote about my Michigan visit in the why michigan essay grr I overlooked that part. I think i was too detached in that essay… I’m getting stressed again😖
