** Official Class of 2018 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

I applied to the places that had the best programs. Whether it’s Cornell 5 hours north, or Berkeley 3 days west, I just want to get the best education I can.

True, most people do try to get away from home… Umich is the only in-state school I applied to, mainly because it has really strong engineering, an affordable price tag, and my chances are pretty good. All the rest are on the East Coast or in California.

Umich should most likely accept more students in state than out of state.

There’s no way I could afford OOS. Is there a chance thread?

^ @purplemonkey33 if you cannot afford it and neither your parents income most likely youll recieve a lot of money thru grants/financial aid. Most likely youll have to just pay for textbooks. I know thru financial aid they cut the price by half for oos or if your family is just that not wealthy they give you full coverage

I know Rutgers will most likely give me up to 20k+ thru financial aid.

Then again you can take loans and be in debt… which is not good for undergrads especially. But gotta do what ya gotta do.

re:JooHyo it is NOT true that UMich accepts more in-state than OOS applicants. The acceptance rate is higher for in-state because of quotas set because it’s a public school, but they accept far more OOS students because more of them apply. Additionally, more in-state students choose to apply because it is more affordable for them–but this isn’t based on admissions.

^ Yeah i guess i worded it wrong what im trying to say is the acceptance rate should be higher for instate than oos. Yes also due to being a public school they have to the ratio of accepting more state students than oos.

CRAP just got an email and it said CU Boulder telling me to apply. i thought it was Umich for a second haha.

Anyone else still getting emails from Uchicago? LOL they really advertise well I noticed.

Does anyone else have this problem where last Friday, all your friends got accepted into their EA schools and they’re so excited and bubbly or rejected or deferred in which case they can at least focus on finals?

Well, I suppose most schools don’t have finals next week X(
This is going to be a long 6 days. And if it comes out NEXT week, I am going to curl up in a fetal in the darkest corner of the darkest room.

I mean to say fetal position whoops

I’m out of state, so it’s likely gonna be very expensive for me if I were to attend…

gonna be hard to pass up on umich

I think that if you’re a below average student who wants to go to college, you’ll probably apply to a smaller local college. You’ll find a few easier places near where you life. If you’re above average or average you will apply to your main state school and maybe 1 or 2 out of state if you really like them. Really great students are more likely to apply all over, shooting for the best possible schools regardless of location. Therefore, OOS applicants to a given college have higher stats on average than in-state.

^ well I dont feel that way cause 2 out of 3 of my EA came one before my final which was around 3 weeks ago and one came friday which i got deferred and i have no finals. We are trimester based so we rush like crazy for no reason and take the final.

I heard someone transferred all the way to Oxford from a community college in the U.S. in Michigan. Most my professors at my community college went to a community college for undergrad and then now they have their masters and ph.d from Umich and Vanderbilt.

I have so many smart students in my community college course who just did not have the same opportunity as some other students to go to the name brand schools. Not all below average students apply to community college many from my state probably just go to wayne state or community college. I know 2 years ago this girl got into umich from my school but went to community college instead cause of financial issues.

Washington and Lee university said if your parents income is less than 75,000 they give automatic full grant

Why on earth would decisions come today or even tomorrow? Are you guys just pulling this info out of your butts? No offense but we’re all building hype up about things that really seem unlikely.
