OFFICIAL COLUMBIA FALL 2015 TRANSFER THREAD

Hi guys! Keeping my fingers crossed and wishing everyone luck. Based on my stats and info, do
i have a chance?

Major: Psych
HS GPA: 3.7
ACT: 30
Freshman GPA at Bucknell U: 2.0 (I know this is VERY low, but I explained in my personal info the extreme nature of my situation and how I grew from the awful experience)
Soph GPA at community college: 3.95
ECs: Speak Up (sexual assault support and awareness group), Active Minds mental health club, phi beta kappa honors society etc.

What makes my college exp so different is that I first did poorly at a prestigious university after something bad happened on campus, and then proceeded to transfer and live back at home until I was ready to go away to school again. I explained these harsh circumstances. I also have stellar letters of recommendation

So everything from my application has been received except for the second letter of recommendation due to a short-term snafu with a professor – if I can get it in by this week they probably won’t kill me right?

Hi! How are you guys sending your midterm reports?

Hi everyone, thanks for all sharing and implicitly helping me out in the process. I was wondering if you guys might be able to give some insight on my chances:

-Current college: Top 10 liberal arts school
-GPA: 3.6
-SAT: 2150
-Extracurriculars: varsity cross country, 2 student newspapers, work at school’s cafe
-High school: top 5 boarding school in the US
-High school GPA: 3.7
-High school extracurriculars: Student body president, head of sustainable food club, 3 varsity sports, board of another community service club
-Awards: Cum Laude (high honors), Character Award, 4’s and 5’s on all 5 AP tests taken (“AP Scholar with Distinction award”)
-Reason for transferring: my current college is v. pragmatic, specialized school (albeit “liberal arts”), while I hope to be a journalist and desire a broader liberal arts education (esp. Core Curriculum)
-Recommendations: 3, and I’m assuming all very good (not to sound self-centered, but I had good relationships with those profs)

-Special notice: I had a bad case of mono for 2 months, severely affecting my GPA.

I would really, really appreciate any feedback, and please be honest. Thanks so much!

Omg do you go to CMC

Interesting if you two are, because I’m a transfer applicant from CMC too. What year are you two in? Sophomore here.

well that’s awkward.

obviously our college is doing a great job with retention!

"Happiest college"TM is very marmite, but I’m sure you already know this. Good luck with your apps.

You too! And I’m a freshman btw

Is there a way to check whether Columbia has received our mid term report?

@disoriented128 I called them and they were able to confirm it!

Does anyone else’s college not offer midterm grades? And, if so, how do you remedy that? Some of my classes haven’t had sufficient assignments to give a real grade so fat forthis semester

waiting really sucks

@transferringbud FYI, transfers at Columbia do get 100% aid like everyone else; they changed that this year. I was in your guys’ shoes last year; the wait is tough… Good luck guys!

Oh yeah, I saw the email they sent about the change several days ago… What exciting news!!

sounds good

Just got rejected from Vandy. Kinda bummed, but Columbia just became my top choice of the remaining schools. Lol.

Wow @Jigglypoof‌, does Vandy make their decision about transfers so early?

It’s a rolling thing, but yeah. They just started. They really must’ve not liked my application, cuz I think I got cut in the first round. Ha. What can ya do though?
