Yup yup, I did Middle College for a year, and then dropped out of high school for community college exclusively. While I was doing that I received my GED. I greatly disliked high school and Middle College. I think straight college is so much better for various reasons.

@ mikeg1991: I’m sorry, I meant to say that you have around a 40% chance of getting in :/. I said that just because of the core requirements you’re missing. Otherwise, I’d say you’re in.

However, this is a legitimate chance you could get that conditional acceptance. I’d say you have a very strong chance of that just because you have so many reqs in progress. If you get that, you’re good to go. If you don’t get in, appeal.

You seem to be pretty borderline, and with a 4.0 in all those units you’re taking, you should have very “new and compelling information”.

I actually though middle college was the perfect route for me. I liked my hs but I finished all my units by my junior year, so they let me enroll in middle college and then I was only required to take english as a high school class and everything else was college. Why didn’t you like middle college? Classes were too remedial? (thats how I felt about the middle college english class) or the social aspect?

Hi emilsinclair, did you extract that UCSD admissions information from somewhere online? I tried searching for something like this a few weeks ago but could only find such data (“Admits by major by GPA”) for UCLA, and not UCSD. Please let me know :)

To Emilsinclair9,

Thanks for chancing me that makes me breathe a little easier! I just turned 18 last September. I’ve been going to CC since the summer of Freshman year to take English 1A and just continued from there. But I stayed because of my high school marching band and friends.

Could someone chance me, the anxiety is killing me (Probably like a lot of us).

Page 19

Thanks

@trasferuc

What do you mean completing Calc1+2/Econ1+2

Do you mean you have already completed them or your in the process now?

Regardless you chances at UCLA is slim 3.86 was average admit for Econ last year and your odds are low.

If you completed Calc1+2 and econ 1+2 then you have 40% shot But you should be TAG’d in everywhere else so you should be fine.

Also if i did my math right you have only 37-38 units?

If your running 22 unit this semester with most of your pre-reqs in those units your chances are slim to non

I have pretty much the same statistics as TransferUC, same major, but I’ve finished Econ 1 (A) and 2 (A) and Calc 1, currently in Calc 2. I’ve completed my AA in econ, IGETC complete and worked 25-30 hours a week as an assets database manager at NASA. (I explained how I got this job in my essay, since most people find it very unusual I started working at NASA at 18). I also worked 25-30 hours at a restaurant for most of my 1st year at college, which was my first job and had from the time I was 15 untill the time I started working at NASA (1 2/3 years). You think I have about a 40% chance as well?
Also, if this changes anything, I had 60 units after 3 semesters, 2 of which I was still a high school student. (Graduated 4 months before applying as a transfer).

Corning i don’t know what to tell ya I’m actually applying for the same major and .2 gpa higher and when i talk to the UCB rep they basically tell me it’s a flip of the coin they get so many 4.0 and near 4.0 for Econ/BIz Econ that gpa will play a big factor in admittance.

Although i do believe you have a better chance than transferuc just because of the fact you have more pre-reqs completed they want grades for those classes. Rather than “In progress”

If you consider that the average applicant was 3.5 gpa for UCLA econ/Biz econ and the admit was 3.86 and that the applicants for UCLA probably also applied for CAL. Add in the fact that there was a record number of applicants this year and they are probably keeping enrollment targets near last years.

Considering all that you basically have a year where it’s more competitive , higher standards and probably all very qualified individuals. It’s a flip of a coin whether you get in or not.

For example i have a friend who interned at Credit Suisse for a year 3.92 gpa and has TAP with UCLA and basically they told him he had a good shot not guaranteed

Im assuming “Corning” is me? If not then ignore this:

Oh I was actually talking about UCLA. I know that my GPA is low.I didnt apply econ to cal, I applied Political Economy. Its significantly less competitive. The average GPA admitted is around 3.67.

@ der134ch3l0r: No problem! I’m also 18, but a couple months older. That’s really interesting that you managed to do both at once! I began at CCC during my junior year of high school. I tried Middle College and CCC, and it really messed with my schedule. Fortunately, my grades suffered in the high school half and not the CCC half lol.

Anyways, best of luck!

Sorry if my stats are confusing, let me try to post it again. Last time I’ll try to post off my phone…

Major:Economics
Schools:UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCD
GPA:3.76
Units:68 by spring plus 24 AP credits
Prereqs: Calculus 1-B Microeconomics-A
Macroeconomics-IP Calculus 2-IP
I have AP credit for both Econ classes I just decided I would take them because try were offered in the honors program.
TAG/TAP: TAP at UCLA, TAG at UCSD
EC: Work 24hr/week, PTK, Personal Car Business-6hr/week, AYSO Referee, AP Scholar with Distinction, Two Research Paper at HTCC Confrenece, IVC Honor Program, Club Soccer Referee…ect

Sorry, again.

@ corinnejay: What Middle College did you go to? I went to the College of San Mateo Middle College. I disliked it mostly because it went from 12:00-2:00. The best college courses, and almost always the most important ones were set within this time frame. I often found that I couldn’t take what I wanted, or had to take the class at a more inconvenient time for me like 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning. I don’t drive, so the commute for me would be anywhere from 50 mins - an hour and a half.

I also felt that it was extremely boring. The English class had amazing books as part of the curriculum, in fact, some of the best I’ve ever read. However, I found the class to be fairly shallow in analyzing the books. It was very standard in that it required decent essay-writing ability and typical in-class discussions. It just felt like high school to me, and I quickly became bored. I also found it really easy, and I felt that I wasn’t learning anything…except perhaps to take notes on each chapter which I found pretty irrelevant.

We also had to take Econ and Gov. at Middle College. I’m a Psych major, and to be honest, those classes are completely uninteresting to me. I just found myself regurgitating information that I felt would never pertain to my interests or career aspirations.

I also had some personal problems with people (not specific people, but in general) at the time. I didn’t like being around others, and enjoyed isolating myself. High school and Middle College would, through curriculum group projects and discussion groups, sort of force one to interact with others. Of course, I’ve completely changed since then, and I’m really glad I have. I was a recluse for a few years of my life, but now I love being around people. I explained it all more thoroughly in my second personal statement lol.

Anyways, yeah that’s basically why I disliked Middle College.

I went to Canadas, and yea the fact that it was at 12-3 was really annoying, but seeing as I only had to actually go to one of them and they were pretty lenient with attendance, it wasn’t so bad.

@ emilsinclair9:

Can you please see my post #304 :)

@Transferuc: I’m not the most familiar person with the Econ department at those schools, but you asked for a chance. Thus, I’ll give you my assessment:

You’re in at UCSD with a TAG no problem. I would also say that you’re in at Davis just judging by your GPA and stellar awards and achievements that you mentioned.

For UCLA you said you have TAP. Every time I see TAP, I’m inclined to say that the applicant has a great chance. Your GPA is a bit low for your major, and you are still working on your prereqs. All that being said, I would say you are really borderline.

Probably 50/50. Aim for straight A’s this semester (obviously), so if you don’t get in, you will have new and compelling GPA and prereq related information after the spring semester and you could appeal.

For Cal, I would imagine that Economics is a little more difficult to get into. I would thus speculate that your chances would be a bit slimmer. I would estimate around 40-45%. If your Personal Statements are strong, and you have a legitimate upward trend, I would say that you have a fairly good shot…maybe 55%.

Major: Economics
UC GPA:3.9
Applying to: UCD, UCSD, UCB, UCLA, UCSB
Prereqs: all BUT CALC I, CALC II
IGETC: Completed by spring '10
TAG/TAP: n/a
ECs:two different business clubs freshmen year, work
Essay: 6/10
Other:

@ Oliver_Twist: UCLA has the Profile of Admitted Students page (2009) for majors and their admit rates. However, I don’t believe UCSD has released similar information.

I know that everybody on CC got into UCSD last year with a 3.0+ because I’ve spoken to tons of people on here, and they all confirmed this. Also, I spoke with a UCSD rep (I visited for 3 days at UCSD) and she said that this will also be the case this year. Yes, even spectacular programs like Bio at UCSD, which is impacted, will admit with a 3.0+ automatically.

If you have a 3.0 or better, you’re good to go!

Not taking calc will significantly hurt you, especially at UCLA and UCB. The Calc series is 2/5 of the prereqs at UCLA and UCB. They even say on assist " THIS
MAJOR IS HIGHLY SELECTIVE. ALL preparatory courses should be completed by the
spring term just prior to transfer. All courses must be taken for a letter
grade. The calculus course requirements should be met as early as possible."

Your GPA is strong so I would say your chances at UCD, UCSD, and UCSB are very strong, but pretty low at UCLA, slightly higher at UCB.

@ emilsinclair9:

Wow! Are you sure though? I mean, with the largest increase in transfer applicants in UC history, shouldn’t we expect that UCSD would raise its admissions standards/GPA requirements? Not only have applications increased, but also have applicant competitiveness, right?

In addition, the rep you spoke with: how recently did she say this to you? (I’m surprised that the most prestigious program–Biology–@ UCSD would also be accepting 3.0’s.) I happen to be a sociology major and my GPA is about 3.1 to 3.2ish, and I’m still anxious: can you console me with your reply

Thanks for that response though, emilsinclair9.
