*Official Fall 2013 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

@idizzle I applied as a theater and performance major! I hear that the average gpas for the theatre and performance major are a little bit lower round 3.5 … so maybe that will help??? not sure at all… I know I have a ton of life experience and theatre credits but my GPA just sucks… I think its going to kill me in the water… ;-(

@ Babs22hh: Yes of course a weaker GPA will hurt you but the great thing about UCLA and Cal is that they care about your personal statement and what you have to say.

This is from UCLA’s site.

"The personal statement…

Offers us an understanding of you as a unique individual within the context of your family, school, community, and the world.
Adds clarity, richness, and meaning to the information collected in other parts of your application.
Allows you to make your best case for why you should be admitted to UCLA.
Clarifies the distinctions between applicants whose academic records appear to be quite similar.
Provides us with information that may not be evident in other parts of your application.
Is a forum for you to explain how factors outside of your school environment have enhanced or impeded your ability to maximize available academic and intellectual opportunities.

The most compelling personal statements often include discussion of…

Your academic record, accomplishments, and activities.
Any unusual circumstances, challenges, or hardships you have faced and the ways in which you have overcome or responded to them.
Your initiative, motivation, leadership, persistence, service to others, special potential, and/or substantial experience with other cultures.
Your achievements in light of the opportunities available to you.

@ Babs22hh & other people waiting for UCLA: Have you guys tried the UCLA URSA trick yet?

^ yes but no apparent results have come yet for people majoring in things other than engineering and arts :/

@ BioToUcla: Oh really? Well that’s good to hear. I remember I did the URSA trick last year and it turns out that I got in. However, I did receive the acceptance decision that upcoming friday, which meant that I was in the first batch of decisions.

My sister is also waiting for UCLA decisions and I told her to do the URSA trick as well but she couldn’t see anything. That means if what you say is true than there is still hope for her.

Yes, you along with others have confirmed this so hopefully it’ll be the same case this year  I think the tricks should start rolling out for the L&S people tomorrow or Wednesday… I’m hoping sooner than later

@ BioToUcla: Yes hopefully. Good luck to you! It’s kind of funny, the URSA trick ruined the excitement for me when I had received the official decision. LOL. I remember getting it on that Friday and I was like “meh”. LOL.

Hi everyone,
I’ve created a NEW thread for PSYCHOLOGY majors to post their GPAs/relavent statistics for UC BERKELEY TRANSFERS

<a href=“UC Berkeley 2013-14 CC Transfer - PSYCHOLOGY - Applying to College - College Confidential Forums”>UC Berkeley 2013-14 CC Transfer - PSYCHOLOGY - Applying to College - College Confidential Forums;

If you’re interested in knowing that information, feel free to stop by and post your own statistics and check out others!

*If you are a Psyc major transferring to UCB, PLEASE contribute to the thread…I want everyone who’s applied to the major (including myself) to have some peace of mind knowing where they stand because the ambiguity of the admissions process is so stressful!!
Thank you.

at this point everyone needs to relax, it’ll all be over in a couple of days. these next few days will go by quick. and whatever happens happens. its out of your hands now so just relax :)

thats very true @philos it is out of our hands and the decision has likely already been made months ago lol BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

I know many people speak about the holistic approach of both UCLA and Ucberk but heres something interesting…

[The ‘holistic’ admissions lie - The Daily Californian](The 'holistic' admissions lie)

@Babs22hh: I disagree with that article, how much “character,” “responsibility,” “insight,” “maturity” can a 17yr old have? Yes, freshmen applicants are pretty much reviewed solely on their GPA. I think the holistic thing is more for transfers.

i concur with @idizzle

hopefully for me that will be the case come tomorrow night!!!

IDizzle and others who come on here and answer our questions…

Soon this mayhem and anxiety of waiting will be over and this thread will die down.

Thank you for being so helpful and answering so many questions. There is something about constantly reading these threads that seems to help with the anxiety of waiting for decisions.

Thank you for taking the time to help us transfer students out.

@ GoToCC: Your very welcome! I was in the same spot as you guys last year. I know how all of you feel! Good luck to all of you! Hope you all get to go where you want to go!

Strengths: Personal statement, well rounded EC activities
Weaknesses: gpa
Why you think you were accepted/rejected: cornell is a ****** LOL.

@ nerissa924: Congrats! Have you decided where you are going? F Cornell. I know someone who got accepted to Cornell but went to UCLA instead. lol. Public Ivy ftw!

Hey just wanted to let people know I got into UCLA, UCD, UCSC, UCI, and UCR
I’m still waiting for Merced and SD.
I was denied from Berkeley and SB.

GPA : 3.5-ish
Major gpa: 4.0

I posted on page 43.
