Applying to UCI, UCSC, UCD, UCSD, UCSB, CSULO, CSU Pomona, UCLA, UCB, UCR, UCM, USC
TAP: CSULB (as Math major)
TAG: Do not qualify for my major ):
GPA: 3.66
Major: Computer Science/ Computer Game Science
Alternate: Computer Game Science, but for schools that do not offer the major I have no idea… any suggestions?
IGETC: Completed
Honor’s Program: Completed

First Gen Student

EC:
-PTK secretary, PTK President (this year)
-Student Government, Commissioner of Information Technology (basically I work with the school’s IT department.)
-Student Rep for Information Technology Committee
-Student Rep for Web Standards Committee
-Engineering Club
-Band (Have played in honor bands, gotten awards, first chair etc.)
-Leadership Conferences
-Community Service

Essays: I think I can write good essays, but I don’t think I can explain why I have not completed my prereqs…

Awards: In my school you get awards for your participation for the year. I have gotten Bronze and Silver and I am hoping to get Gold in December, but idk if it will even matter by then.

Pre reqs: Not completed ): i will finish all of the computer science courses I need to take and I will get up to Calc 2, however I will be unable to complete physics so that is what I think will hurt my application the most. Also many of the UCs require more math than Calc 2.

Please let me know. I am hoping to get into UCI. It is my first (realistic choice)

Technically, I’m a CA resident, but I’m attending a small 4 yr OOS public school. Transferring back to CA for financial purposes and hoping for better education back home. I’m actually going to be spending my second semester this year at a CCC because of financial issues, and I’m told this won’t impact my application in any way.

I’m pretty sure most of my pre-reqs will be accepted, but there is at least one class I’m not sure about - if I get accepted to a school but they end up rejecting more than one of my course credits, I probably won’t be meet the 60 credit minimum unless I take summer/winter session courses. Does that automatically mean my acceptance is rescinded?

Looking to apply to: UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCSD, and I’m sure UCB and UCLA will be a looooong and likely to be impossible shot. Not sure if I should apply to UCSC (turned down their offer when I was applying as a freshman)

3.7 Overall gpa
3.2 Major gpa (yeah, it’s not great…)

Intended major: Political science
Junior transfer, Fall 2013

College EC:
Worked part-time most of the school year to pay off tuition (varied from 16-25 hrs/week)
Amnesty International club
Volunteer for human rights organization (taught underprivileged kids math and english)

HS EC:
4 years of color guard/winter guard
4 years of Interact Club
3 years yearbook committee (design editor)
2 years of teen-run print magazine (design/content editor)
Worked during summer breaks

@physloop Your GPA is pretty low. The only UC that that might accept you is UCSC. I was looking at the 2012 acceptance thread and there were a few people that got in with 2.9s without TAG, so you might have a shot. Your chances are pretty much zero for the other schools. If you have the cash, I would I still apply to every school because you never know what could happen. As for the CSU’s, I seriously have no clue. This a UC transfer thread.

@blueandorange UC’s do not look at your sat score, so you don’t need them. Even though it’s not a requirement, you will be at a huge disadvantage without IGETC. And you are also missing prerequisites which puts you at another disadvantage-- but it might not be a big deal since they don’t offer them at your school. Your GPA is decent(better than mine) so you still have a chance as long as your major isn’t impacted at the low-tier and middle-tier UC’s. Based on UCSB’s admittance average 3 years ago for Film (very outdated, I know) your GPA is way above average.

@cheerilee Everyone that applies for haas is super qualified (high GPA, EC’s, awesome essay), so it’s really hard to chance someone. A lot of qualified people get rejected. It’s a 50/50 for me

@pandahx 3 years ago the average GPA admitted at UCSB for CS was a 3.33. I can only assume it’s a lot higher now. I have a feeling you might be slightly above average with your GPA. You have no chance at UCLA or Berkeley. You’re in a UCM and UCR. UCSC is the only UC that has a major in game design, so I’m confident you can get in. I don’t know about USC, since they do things a lot differently. The general consensus about private schools and Ivy leagues is if you weren’t a competitive applicant in High School, then your chances are pretty much 0%. Literally.

I would be an OOS transfer from a 4 year university (also an OOS student)
I have about 83 credits and would like to be a junior transfer
I’m looking into UCLA and UCSD as a Computer Science Major

Bad: I have not completed two of the reqs but I could do them this spring, specifically another physics and a chem (didn’t need chem at my current university)
I dropped 4 of my computer science classes, one of them I retook and got an A the other three I dropped last spring and that’s when I decided I need to transfer, lol. Don’t plan to go back to school until fall 2013.

Good: I have a 3.89 GPA, i’m in my universities honor college, I have had tons of scholarships and awards for academic achievement at my university. Was a member of several engineering clubs and have had two internships at really good companies.

Hey guys, I’m currently enrolled at UCR and would love to achieve my goal of attending UCI! I tried two years ago to get in as a freshman, but ended up getting rejected :(. I hope now I’ll be able to get in! Here are my stats… I know they’re not that good, but could I get a chance? Also I’m an Mechanical Engineer major!

Overall GPA: 3.12

Hopefully I can raise this to 3.2+ after fall.

I don’t really have any EC’s since these classes have been keeping me busy quite a bit, but I’m hoping to accumulate some volunteer hours before application time since I only have 3 courses this quarter.

I will have UC Reciprocity done by the Spring and have all the requirements stated by the UCI transfer website for mechanical engineers finished. Chance me? Oh and could you guys chance me for UCSD too? Thanks guys!

Nextlvl and yupper looks like we’re all in the same boat. I hope we get in I can’t afford this OOS bs anymore lol. You guys look like you got a good shot so good luck to you.

I will finish the intro to physics, which is transferable and articulated but not the one I need for my major (I am taking it because it is the requirement for the one I need), and the first semester of a 3 semester physics sequence.

Hey guys, I’m really sorry to be invading this thread. But I’m currently a first year CCC student and I need to know which of you guys took two years to transfer and which of you guys took more than two years to do so.

I am transferring from an out of state 4 year private, but I am a California Resident.

Should I mention high school ec’s on the application?

@yupper
UCLA CS is extremely competitive with an admit rate of 8%. I also assume that you have heard about the difficulties about OOS transfer admissions.
Nonetheless, your GPA is competitive and you have good EC’s. I think the major gripe I have is the fact that you dropped four computer science classes and are trying to declare as a computer science major. You probably have some reasons for that (hopefully), so if you explain yourself well in your personal statements I think you’ll have a reasonable chance of getting in.
[Profile of Admitted Transfer Students, Fall 2011 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof11.htm)

@Hopey11
The fact that you finished the prereqs for ME is definitely a positive factor, but as you admitted, your GPA could be better. In my honest opinion, I think that you will need around a 3.3+~ GPA to be a competitive candidate at UCI Engineering as a UC-UC transfer. As for UCSD… I don’t think you have a realistic chance.

@akap21
I think you have a very good chance of getting into all of those schools. Great GPA, ECs, prereqs completed. You’re all set.
The only problem is that it will be nigh impossible to double major into a business major once you transfer due to its impacted nature. UCB’s business major has its own dedicated school (HAAS) and has an extensive admission process that requires an additional supplemental essay. Admit rates are as low as 6%. I highly doubt you’ll be able to get into the business major as a double major or even as a change-of-major. UCLA’s business administration is similarly hyper-competitive. There simply aren’t enough spots to go around.

So basically, you have a reasonable chance of getting into your schools, but sliding into a business major is improbable.

@casscain You have a strong GPA and nice EC’s, but the missing prerequisites will hurt you for UCLA and UCB. English is impacted at UCLA so that could ruin your chances. You’re definitely in at UCSB(average GPA in 2010 was only a 3.3) and UCI(TAG). Is there anyway you can get some of those prerequisites done? I was looking at assist.org and to transfer from my CC to UCLA, you only need 4 prerequisites. Having TAP will help out a lot. I don’t know about Berkeley, but I can only assume they have harder admission standards than UCLA.

Hello guys! New here. I just wanted to ask a quick question that someone will hopefully help me with. I’m in my second year of community college and I’ve been following the IGETC form trying to complete the necessary classes. I have 37 units completed thus far and working on 13 right now. If I complete all the requirements of IGETC(60units + classes) by spring with a GPA between 3.2 - 3.5, will that be good enough to transfer to UCD, UCI, UCSB, or UCSD?

Thank you for chancing me! What you’ve said matches up with what I’ve heard from counselors. So far I’ve been making calls to the other CCs in my district, but none are offering Lit 151, Lit 232, or Lit 201 (the three courses I still need) in the Spring of 2013. I am however taking Lit 202 (which only fulfills 1/2 of one prerequisite). I’ve also sent an email to the Dean of Language Arts here at my college inquiring as to whether I can articulate a prereq with a previous Literature course I’ve taken. Additionally, I’ll be taking two other Literature courses in the spring semester (but they aren’t prerequisities). Do you think my track record of having taken other non-prerequisite Lit courses will help my case? Does UCB allow students to finish up prereqs in the summer?

Also, I’ve recently spoken to a UCB representative that comes to my CCC. She told me that since my GPA is solid, I won’t have to excessively worry about completing all of my prerequisites (in the case of an English major, anyway). My CCC also notoriously lacks Lit courses (according to ASSIST, most CCCs only offer one or two). As long as I write stellar Personal Statements, I think I’ll have a fair shot.

I’ve also been scouring the CC forums for previous English major transfers to UCB. Several have gotten in with similar GPAs to mine (and with only one or two prereqs finished). Hopefully that bodes well for me!

@hopingtoXfer Mechanical Engineering is a pretty popular major. You are .02 above the average GPA admitted for transfer students at UCLA. It’s honestly a 50/50. They have a 17% admittance rate; that’s pretty low, which means a lot of qualified applicants are rejected because lack of space. I can only assume it’s WAY harder for UCB. If you can woo them with the essay, you have a shot. Having the prerequisites completed is a huge boost for UCLA aswell. You’re definitely in at UCR, UCD and UCSB giving your GPA. I don’t think Mechanical engineering is impacted at UCSD and Irvine, but not having those prerequisites can only hurt you.
