Official Georgetown University Transfer Thread 2011

@transfer520. You’re probably not going to read this by the time you have your interview, but oh well hahahah. The interview is honestly just a pretty informal conversation. If there’s anything you have not addressed in your application, telling your interviewer is a great way of letting the admissions committee know. Also, you can be more specific about your awards/extra-curriculars because a resume usually can only capture so much. I hope this helps.

@Pinkstuffz. I’m pretty sure you won’t be negatively impacted in anyway. Although I must say it’s odd that they listed you as going to a different school.

@newtransfer259. When were you notified last year of your rejection? From previous threads, some people heard in about a WEEK, but I think they were all college/NHS applicants. I really can’t wait any longer, but from what I’ve seen, the SFS results seem to be some of the last to be released.

@HopesToBeAHoya…just in time haha, leaving soon. Thanks for the advice, from what everyone has said it sounds like it will a relaxed conversation…no ‘gotcha’ questions. To say the least im excited, even though it probably has little impact on admissions decisions, but nevertheless a good interview cant hurt. I just cannot wait for the decisions to come out

oh good, a thread i can stalk obsessively until june 1st! i’m applying as a transfer to the sfs. i ideally want to major in international political economy but i couldn’t find that on the application for some reason (and i tried every dang which way) so i am officially applying to major in international economics.

has anyone else received a midterm grade request? i got an email about it approximately a week ago and i haven’t sent one in yet because i have yet to hear back from all of my professors, but i don’t know what to make of it.

@transfer520: i hope it went really well for you! mine went better this year, so maybe second time is the charm with these things?

@ashtona. Ahahaha I like your comment about stalking obsessively! That’s why I created this thread as well, so I can constantly look at it and somehow get through the next few weeks. Unforunately, I have not received a midterm grade request. It seems like getting one would be a good sign because it perhaps means the admissions committee is further interested in you. Do you mind posting your stats so that we can see if there is a correlation?

@hopestobeahoya I’ll give you the basics - I had some extenuating circumstances last semester, so I’m thinking that’s probably what interested them.

Current Institution: University of Kansas - majoring in Global and International Studies & Economics
Year: Freshman with first semester sophomore standing
GPA: 3.59 / looking at a 3.8/3.9 for this semester
test scores:
SAT I: 800 CR / 620 M / 1420 Total
SAT II: 790 World History / 760 US History / 660 English

My GPA is le mis, however last semester I contracted a severe case of mono and was out of school for approximately six weeks. I didn’t return until two weeks before finals and was nearly forced to withdraw from classes, but instead managed to pull off decent, if not show-stopping, grades. My main letter of recommendation came from my macroeconomics professor, who saw me come through with flying colors in her class and attested to my academic capabilities in the face of such frustrating circumstances.

If anyone else got a similar request I would love to hear your theories!

@ashtona: thanks, i just got back…i feel it went pretty well. What everyone said was true, the interview was relaxed and more of a get to know you conversation than anything. Best of luck to everyone, i hope we find out sooner than later!

Thanks everyone, i hope so. And i cannot send my high school transcript until monday because my school is on spring break. LOVELY. And i got another email apologizing for the college switch and will send that again tomorrow. I really <3 this school!!!

When should we start expecting acceptances/rejections?

I’m simply adding to the list of hopeful applicants!!

Current Institution: Cerritos Community College
Standing: currently a sophomore
GPA: 3.8
Extra Curricular Activities: Phi Theta Kappa, Honors club secretary, started a volunteer program at my elementary school to teach kids new languages and cultures, studied abroad in Paris last summer
School: SFS
Major: Culture & Politics
Minor: Theology
Letter of Recommendation: by my honors macroeconomics prof who is aware of the struggles I faced in college while working full-time
Personal statement: promoting pragmatism over philosophical partiality in the realm of international relations

I would also LOVE to know when we should start getting our replies from Gtown >_<

Just got an email from my admissions counselor saying they still don’t have my ACT scores. I sent them last Friday (again), and Georgetown gets them electronically. I don’t understand. This is frustrating me.

@ashtona. That’s great that they are looking further into your application due to your situation!

@transfer 520. Happy to hear your interview went well!

@Pinkstuffz. I’m really sorry to hear that. It seems like the admissions committee is losing a lot of stuff this year.

@jayfromla. In previous years’ threads, people (usually only college and NHS applicants) started to hear in a couple of days! However, because not everyone uses CC, we may not hear of any notifications. But generally speaking, I BELIEVE that most acceptances are made by May 15th, and then come the rejections/waitlists. But there are also people who get rejected/waitlisted before May 15th as well, so nothing is really set in stone. Also, if they’ve contacted you about lost materials, I remember reading on last year’s thread (I think?) that your decision would most likely come a little bit later because they only recently received all of your completed application.

@Hoyafever. Wow, you seem really qualified! Good luck, and by the way, nice username–it reflects the same passion I have for Georgetown hahahaha.

@Knights09. That’s really annoying. Are you sure that you’re sending it to Georgetown University and not the Georgetown University Medical Center (I think that’s what it is called…?) or something else? Actually it might have been the law school…or something…I remember when I sent my SAT scores, two options came up when I typed in Georgetown University. I’m not sure if it’s different for the ACTs because I never took them.

Yeah, there’s only one option. If you type in Georgetown, there’s only one option located in Washington, DC.

Acceptance letters come in sooner for some schools than others. From previous threads I’m pretty sure SFS comes last.

hey all,
does anyone know whether gtown uses the internet or snail-mail to notify us?
if the internet - do they give us a username and no. to access our decisions, or do they email us?
(i apologize if this has already been clarified on cc…)

Whats up fellow prospective gtown transfers?! I was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback on my chances? Let’s all hope for acceptances!

high school GPA: 3.91(UW), many AP’s
college GPA: 4.0
ACT: 30
letter of rec: very strong, from a professor that I had a pretty good relationship, but not in my major
EC’s: pretty strong, I had an internship this year as a freshman, was the president of my senior class, all-state choir, cheer captain, etc.

what do you guys think? any feedback would be appreciated!

I’m pretty sure they email acceptances and snail-mail rejections

@maybelater. From what I’ve read from previous yearss threads, they do both. Some people will get waitlisted by email, but I think most people receive acceptance emails.

@slynch26. Where do you currently go to school? And what school are you applying to at Georgetown?

^ Thank you :)

@hopestobeahoya- I go to the University of San Francisco (private Jesuit university about the same size as gtown) and I’m applying to the college. what do you think my chances are?

@Hopes,
May 26th, I memoried that date lol. Last year, acceptance e-mails started coming in around the eleventh and lasted through to the 25th or so. All rejections were sent by snail mail.

@slynch,
I’d say you have a decent to good shot at getting in. I cannot say for sure as this process is a coinflip and idk how many credits you have to that 4.0
