I applied as a government major. Right now I’m at Florida International University in Miami. I love FIU, they’ve been really great with me. They took a chance on me when it looked like I would be a total failure… Now I’m in the Honors College and consistently on the dean’s list. FIU Feels like a small pond (in terms of rigor and opportunity) and I’m increasingly becoming a bigger fish every semester.

@Agentsoapbox. I’m happy to hear that you at least like your current institution. I definitely cannot say the same. I am SO READY to get out off Williamsburg asap hahahaha lol.

Okay so I spent some time (actually, it was only a couple minutes) getting this info from someone in the admissions office over the phone. I hope it will give people, both current and future applicants, a better idea of what is expected. Also, keep in mind that the statistics are for 2009 and 2009 only, so they will obviously vary from year to year.

^Thanks for taking the time to compile this.

No problem, eyethink. If you don’t mind me asking, what school are you applying to at Georgetown?

SFS and the major I applied to is CULP.

What about you?

I applied to SFS too! International Economics, however. Do you mind posting stats (as well as other people out there)? I need something to look at in order to kill time, and I want to see whom I’m going against too hahahha.

^I’m not really a stats poster. It feels … dirty. Just PM me specific questions if you really have to know. I will say that it is competitive. Otherwise I wouldn’t have wasted my time. :-)

Haha, oh man! SFS is slightly more competitive than I thought. :)

I applied to regional and comparative studies.

Wow! Do you think the acceptance rate has gone up since then?

I applied to the College.

@eyethink. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean any disrespect.

@goingforanobel. Yeah, I definitely understand what you’re saying. I once called the admissions office (one of many, many, many telephone calls to them lol), and when I heard the acceptance rate, I remember thinking “Great, I have no chance.” Hahaha but here I am still trying to get in. Is Georgetown the only school you applyed to?

@kmarc009. I don’t think so. Most top schools accept students based on available space, and because Georgetown is a top school, most students do not transfer out. That is why the transfer acceptance rates are lower than the rates for the incoming freshman. So while 2011 is not 2009, I would think that both years are comparable…hahah but this is just my opinion of course. What major did you apply to, kmarc009?

Well the reason I thought it was higher was because I just looked into the acceptance rates they post online “20% of 1700 applicants”. It would make sense that acceptance rates would vary depending on the school but, I figured I’d worry more about making my application as competitive as possible.

Other schools I applied to were Harvard, Stanford, and UChicago.

@HopesToBeAHoya I applied as an English major :)

@goingforanobel. I’m pretty sure they haven’t updated that message about the 3.7 gpa and 1700 applicants in years ahahahha. It’s pretty outdated, which is not very helpful for us transfers who want accurate information.

@kmarc009. I’ve heard Georgetown’s English program is really good. I hope you get in!

If anyone hears anything, please post and tell the rest of the College Confidential world.

@HopesToBeAHoya: None taken. I apologize if I made it sound as if I felt disrespected.

i have my transfer interview today and im not gonna lie, im pretty nervous…anyone already do their interview; howd it go?

Got an email telling me that I am missing transcripts and scores. The thing is that they listed a college I did not even attend. I replied and gave the scores again even though I have an act receipt of my scores and swear I sent in everything. Now I’m super stressed that I might get rejected as a result. AHH!!!

I got that email last Friday. Even though I know I sent in my scores and have the ACT receipt to prove it, I just went back onto the ACT website and resent my scores. I then sent an email to the admissions counselor who sent the email to me and told him I had resent the scores and if there were any other concerns to please let me know as soon as possible.

I would not worry about it affecting your admissions decision. The email I received specifically stated that it would not as long as they receive them by the end of April.

Hey everyone and goodluck with transferring. I applied last year, got rejected, and am trying again so I’m somewhat familiar with the admissions process. Pinkstuffz don’t worry about re-sending your materials, Georgetown on occassion loses applicant’s information, its no reflection on your admissions chances
