Official June SAT II Biology

eh? What does that mean?

hey alexinorbit, what do u mean it was half the test? That real test was the a full SAT 2 bio test. And if its easy, thats good. Hopefully, that'll be what the actual test will be like. Compared to practice exams in other books, they usu. are easier slightly. What did u get on that test if u thought it was so easy?

Gooood Luck everyone! It's not such a difficult test, those of you who do fine in your Honors Bio/ AP Bio class should more than likely get above a 700.

GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP. IT'S CRUCIAL!

hey tami, does that apply to the chemistry SAT 2, too?

Your first practice test on Sparknotes is free. Look on the right sidebar. :)

in fact, if you make 3 sparknotes accounts using a different e-mail addy for each, you can take all 3 sat ii bio practice tests for FREE! yes!

wouldn't that be against their policy? ;)

Do you have to have an account already made?

i'd like to give everyone fair warning, the sparknotes tests for the biology sat ii are NOT accurate, they are way too straightforward and easy, and their information in the book is not in depth.

I took the Real SAT II practice test, and I took the actual SAT II bio in May. I found that the actual one was much, much harder. My score decreased by 50 points.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

This is an example of a HARD question that was on the May test that everyone at my school was debating.

Which gives the most energy per gram?

a. Protein
b. Carbohydrates
c. Lipids

Lipids obviously, but if they asked for "short/immediate" energy it would ostensibly be Carbohydrates. Nevertheless, fat cells called adipose have the most amount of stored energy.

oh. is it lipds?

duh, how is that question supposed to be hard and needs debating?

I highly doubt this question will be seen on the exam tommorrow, but what is the difference between pleiotropy and linked genes. Linked genes reside on the same chromosome and inevitably are inherited together; however Pleiotropy involves two traits being inherited together, or is it one gene influences two phenotypes? Someone answer, please.

so ur takin it again IvyLeague OR bust?

Yeah pentasa, I mean, I'm completely potent in scoring upper 700's, or hopefully an 800 (knocks on wood). I honestly couldn't believe that I got a low 700; I suppose I just over thought questions, and just rushed. I'm also a little disheartened with my US history score (730), and I don't know if I should retake it. Best of luck to all of you.

Oh, by the way pentasa--I read your other thread, and think that if you already have three SAT II's over a 700 I think you're a fine. The 690 won't be looked at heavily considering colleges only take your top 2-3 scores.

OK thanks IvyLeagueORbust. I have decided not to take it because I haven't done any extra prep. Somehow I have this nasty feeling though that the one we took in May was insanely difficult. And I will be kicking myself if all you retakers have improved by like 50+ points.

Ivy: You go the linked genes right, however, pleiotropy is when a SINGLE gene has MULTIPLE phenotypic expressions.

From a website (definition and two fairly solid examples):

"Pleiotropy
Pleiotropy refers to genes that are able to affect more than one trait. The recessive lethal yellow gene in mice is an example of pleiotropy. Not only do the alleles determine the fur colour, they also decide whether the individuals survive or not. Another example of pleiotropy is the “white gene” in cats. Homozygous “white” cats are not only white in colour, but they are also deaf with blue eyes (Be aware that the white colour in cats could be determined by other genes so not all white cats are deaf, only those who possess two “white” alleles)."

although, another common example is sickle-cell anemia..

i got a 770. what i meant by half the test was that it gave you only like 40 or 50 questions. i photocopied it from my friend's book and it said this is a mini test. however, i took another real practice test with compass for free and got 790.
