Official March SAT Math Discussion 2008

Wait... Are we talking about the one with the equilateral triangle that had a bisector through the bottom left corner?

yeah, I thought top right too. Does anyone remember the angle they named? It was like CD_...that would help clarify things.

yeah i got the top right angle too.

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/186/mathrpoblemoa4.jpg

There we go.

yeah, at least i'm talking about the one that bisected the 60degree angle of the equilateral triangle...i'm pretty sure the answer was 30

by the way, any comments on the reflection one from people who haven't posted on it as yet. can anyone remember whether it was one or two reflections and where the points were positioned?

Thank you, shimshimhey! Now we can finally put that problem to rest...

shimshimhey: thanks for the drawing, but i dont remember a point so close to P. and do u remember how the question was worded? i remember it being like" "if p is reflected across line k, then which of the following points will it be?"

it was first over k, then over line l

wowww that was sick!
nice pic!

hehe thanks julie...

now..

square root of 2x+3x+4x=5x
square both sides so the sqaureroot and square cancel out and then adding the 2x+3x+5x leaving you:
9x=5x^2
bring 5x^2 to the other side so you have:
(-5x^2) + 9x + 0 = 0
Quadratic Formula!

either 0 or 1.8

The question stated the x must be positive

so 1.8....

thanks shimshimhey, that's correct, I'm glad I chose A

the angle one was 30

btw, what do u think the curve will be like. i'm thinking:
-1 = 780-790
-2 = 760
-3 = 740
-4 = 710

When I did quadratic formula, I got either 18/50 (9/25) or 0...

9 +/- square root of 81

50

So I put .36 on the grid.

shimshimhey

what problem are you working out ???

shimshimhey i don think ur drawing is correct...

point P was with other point right or it was alone

and there was one point left to P but also left to one line

anway i think i put A altho i dont remember...

i put the point left to both line and P
and dont remember if it was A or B

Yeah it was .36

I think the 1.8 value would be the answer for the value of 5x
But it asked for x, which was .36

Hm...I just have a quick question about the point problem.

I also got A, but I just want to remember...where the answer choices put with the corresponding points? For example, was letter choice A Point A, letter choice B point B, etc.? Because I don't remember putting answer choice A for that one, but I got A.

I hope I didn't misbubble it

yea columbia i just realized that... what ever, same way, you still get the answer A..

wait so was the qeustion asking...

sqrt(2x+3x+4x)=x?

GuitarRckr: I'm not 100% positive, but I believe the answer choices were
A) Point A
B) Point B
C) Point C
D) Point D
E) Point P

...or maybe not. Does anyone remember?
