Official March SAT Math Discussion 2008

If the harshest curve is 780 (1 wrong), then the most lenient one is 800 for 1 wrong?

Well, the May 2007 test gave people who had one wrong a 800...(math)

I am still looking for an answer to my question posted earlier regarding the questions being discussed. Are these questions (for the most part) from the medium/hard section of the math?

yes ^^^^^^^^^ 10 characters

Does anyone remember if the X + 1.5x=20 question asked for the bigger or smaller number? My friend who took it in the same test center as me said smaller but people on this board and in different tests centers said bigger.

Does anyone remember what the question about the square with volume of 1 asked for?

^ It asked for the surface area of the cube. The answer was 6.

some corrections..
triangle was u*t, not v
one before carrot asked for acreage i think, so 40 acres?

geoffrey it was larger...answer was 12 i think

tnb, it wasnt 12. each edge was 1 foot, meaning each face was 1 square foot, and there were 6 faces, therefore 6 square feet of surface area.

40 acres? huh? What was that problem? Ahh I can't remember it!!

yeah it was definately 6 and I cant remember the question but did anyone get abs(1??-x) is less than or equal to 1/4? and what is the problem where the answer is hypotenuse of triange: 6sqrt(5)....i dont remember that one

Griffon, I got that answer too and am almost positive it was right. The answer was (x-123) is less than or equal to 1/4, because x had to be between 122.75 and 123.25.

The 40 acres problem asked how much land went to a certain crop. I think it asked for potatoes or some crop that was 20% of total land and it indicated that there were 200 acres of arable land.

was it the absolute value of x-123? or just (x-123)?

abs(x-123)
I also got 6sqrt5 for some problem.

thanks chaucer...do you remember the 6sqrt5 problem?

any predictions on two omit and 1 wrong...then two omit two wrong

would 1 wrong in this test make 780 or 790?

does anyone remember the question for the mean-median which was 8? I don't remember getting two 8s but I don't notice these things lol. Like once I got 5 A's in a row on a test in school and it meant nothing to me.
