Official March SAT Math Discussion 2008

can someone be so kind as to compile the answers we've gone over so far?

So here is a list of all the problems discussed so far... Please correct me if there is a mistake! (I compiled this from the most popular answers, but they are not necessarily correct. Also, I might've mixed up the MC and grid-in because I don't remember what each problem was under.)

Multiple Choice:
- negative product: (k-n)(n-k)
- items below average price: 14
- number sequence: 103
- most cost effective crop: carrot
- graph w/ positive slope: I. a>0 & III. a>b
- average rate: 13.3
- (1/3)^-x + (1/3)^-y: 4/9
- total number of books: 195

Grid In:
- square root of 2x+3x+4x: 9/25 or 0.36
- last question: 256
- greatest distance: 14
- difference in dollars: 1200

what about the line of reflection question?

in the line of reflection one (if this is the one you are talking about: where line l is parallel to line k) i got point A i think. it was the original point.

what was the y-intercept one where you moved the graph 2 to the right?

most people are saying A for the line of reflection, but some are saying B. Personally, i put B but i think i read the question wrong so i think it's point A.

the y-intercept was -2

For the y-intercept problem, I got -2 because the original point was at (-2, -2).

can someone explain why it's A for the point of reflection problem?
If you can, please type up the question too.. THANKS!!!!! :(
I personally got B.. if it's wrong, my 800 will be ruined. . .

guys i swear to god.. i remember that the III. was b>a thats why i didnt pick it...

What was the line of reflection problem? I hope it isn't the one I think it is (although it most likely is)...

I remember a problem where you had a collection of points and two intersecting lines, and you reflected a point over both lines. I think I got C as the point you end up on.

Is this the problem you all are talking about, and I just completely misread what we had to do?

shimshimhey:
I'm pretty sure it was either a>b or b<a

GuitarRckr:
Yes, I think that's the problem he is talking about.
I don't even remember what I put. I'd have to see the full question again first to remember.
All I know is that the point I picked was actually next to/to the left of the starting point.

Yeah! That is exactly what I got as well!

I could have sworn that is was Point C though...

a>b... I and III

it was definetly point B

nimbus was is your reasoning behind point B. that's what i put but everyone is saying A, which seems right by majority.

so ur at point P or something then reflect it over the horizontal line, and it is near the top of it so when u reflect it over the vertical line it will be the lower point which was B

Really? Are you sure that was Point B? I'm fairly certain that after the 2 reflections, it ended up on the point that was to the left of Point P, which was Point A... unless I misread it.

how could it if it said to refelct it over both lines
first over the horizontal
then the vertical
that would be the top left quadrant right...

I know this is another stupid question, but was the point first reflected to a point C and it became B? I'm hoping I am just remembering what I put down wrongly.

But the lines weren't horizontal and vertical...
