Awesome first half! C’mon Terps!

I have a feeling this is just going to get more intense. WOW!

Duke’s currently on a 17-2 run… we need to get back the momentum.

GAME!

Now we just gotta take care of Virginia and we share the regular season title!

That had to have been the best start they had all this season. They won even with the refs against them. I also liked the student section " f*** you Shreyer " lol

At times for me watching the game was like watching a horror film…between my fingers or throwing the pillow in my face saying I can’t watch this!

I turned to Bullet at the 1 minute marker saying I am afraid parents/alumni’s are going to have coronaries if this is a repeat of Tech. Thank G*d it wasn’t, but I was getting nervous there.

I think the Bball team couldn’t give Gary Williams a better birthday present than this win! Happy Birthday Gary! GO TERPS BEAT UVA

not going to UMD but it was my 2nd or 3rd choice and i think they’re bball team has the potential to be a big sleeper come march madness. Vasquez is crazy and i think his court leadership can take them to the sweet 16, or if the have favorable matchups the elite 8.

Good luck!

I think Vaquez was being smart by constantly waving up his arms to the kids to increase the volume.

That one backward throw without looking was very impressive.

UMD typically has a problem that they get too big for the britches, Gary Williams has got to keep them grounded by saying yes, we are tied for 1st, but that still means we are not 1st outright! If he let’s them think they are all that, we will see them fall apart. Look at how last night they gave an 11 pt lead in minutes because they started to get cocky and slack off. This appears to always be their standard…very frustrating.

Just got off the phone with DS and asked him what he thought about the game, he said the game wasn’t the big deal on campus as much as the fact that the police had to close down route 1, and were in RIOT GEAR to control the crowd. They were even shooting rubber bullets. I asked him why, and he said it started with the typical drunk kids throwing empty beer cans at the police and escalated from there.

Yeah, D texted me last night and told me about the police in riot gear on Rt 1. I just read the Diamondback article and several of the comments afterwards. Lots of discussion about whether it was a riot vs. a celebration…but when it comes to destroying street signs and damaging property, it doesn’t show UMD in a great light. Hopefully, everyone can get back to focusing on how awesome the game was and not let the actions of a bunch of drunk college kids, etc. tarnish it. Enough thread-jacking… (start a new thread if you want to continue to talk about the actions after the game)…it really looked like the UMD team was “clicking” last night. I hope they can take this into the NCAA tournament. I have a feeling that the crowd played a huge role in last night’s game, though…Those that attend the tournament games will just have to be EXTRA loud! haha (if that’s possible!)

Let’s lock it up Terps!

I just hope the Terps don’'t get cocky thinking that this is a sure thing!

ACC Regular Season Champs, baby!!! Of course, Carolina couldn’t pull out a win so we have to share this with Duke. But I’ll still take it.

Well, even before the ACC and NCAA tournaments, I have to say this has been a great year for Maryland Basketball! Congrats to the Terps.

Grievis Vazquez (the Latin Assassin) proved to the critics that he CAN play passionately but contrlled, and should earn ACC Player of the Year. I still say “should”, because even us Terps have to admit Sheyer had a phenomenal year as well, and there remains a Tobacco Road bias in the ACC. Perhaps co-winners, like Dickie V (the World’s Most Biased Duke Fan) said last night? I will say this, Vaz had a much less talented cast of others to play with than Sheyer, and he literally took the whole season on his own shoulders at the most crucial times and carried this team to number 1. Grievis DESERVES the award.

And what can we say about Coach Williams? If he doesn’t win ACC Coach of the Year, then they might as well label the ACC the “Schools from Carolina and the other places we allow to play with us”. Last year was a tough one for Gary, with a lot of media and internet jerks calling for his firing for his refusal to recruit AAU and upper-tier talent that all of college basketball knows would be one-year-phenoms-then-straight-to-the-NBA guys. (BTW, how has THAT plan worked out for you USC, Arizona, Tennessee, and a few other teams? Integrity, much?) Gary would rather get the types of players he knows would fit his team’s personality, fight tooth and nail, and stay for 4 years and grow. Works well some years, falls flat a few others. But think of this, Gary hasn’t had a losing season in almost two decades, and he did this without all the McDonald’s All-Americans and kids looking for a spot on the bench for their AAU coaches and a luxury car for thier Mom’s while they play that one season.
Coach. on behalf of Maryland’s true fans, I say “thank you” for a great year, an even better legacy, and the fact that I am proud to say I root for the Terps.

Now, go kick the Dookie’s butts again next Sunday!

Vasquez won ACC Player of the Year and Gary got ACC Coach of the Year. Jordan Williams placed 2nd in Rookie of the Year voting.

Ugly first half. Let’s hope they can find their shooting touch again.

nnnoooo, what happened to our winning streak?! :frowning: I was driving home (for spring break, whoo!) and could only get parts of the game on the radio, but it seems like it was better that I missed it :frowning:

I guess we can think of it as them saving their energy for the NCAA? Thats the only bright side I can think of :(

It was bad. We got demolished in the first half, were down by 16 at the half. Then we went on a run and got within 2 points twice, but never tied or took the lead. They kept giving you hope and then missing a key shot.

Hopefully Gary can get them to refocus before the NCAAs–they look horrendous for the first 20 minutes.

Some positives from last night’s game:

The Press looked unbreakable. Granted, GT is VERY turnover-prone, but still. The Terps played great defense in the second half.

Terps showed resiliency (again). This is something they’re going to need in the NCAAs. This team has proven time and time again that they can come back from large deficits. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t get over the hump last night.

Landon Milbourne. He was the one MD player that really shined last night. 15 points. He finally showed up for a big game, after being almost invisible the past couple of games.

Sean Mosley’s defense. He looked incredible on d last night. But…

The negatives:

Sean Mosley’s offense. I believe he went 0-9, including a couple of missed layups. He appeared to be getting out of his slump these past couple of weeks, too. Last night was terrible, though. UMD needs him if they want to go deep in the Tournament.

Team shooting. Everyone was off. Even Hayes was missing 3s. Vasquez looked awful. It was just not a good night for shooting. Numerous in-and-out shots.

Foul trouble. It seemed like almost everyone was in foul trouble last night. Especially Jordan Williams.

I’m not worried about this team. Many people seem to be, but I’m not. I have faith in their shooting. They had one bad night. It’s bound to happen. Yes, it sucks that it happened in the ACC Tournament, but I’d rather have it happen now than next week. As I stated before, the team showed incredible resiliency, which is always good. The Terps are still a high caliber team and have the potential to go deep in the Tournament.

Terps take the 4-seed and face Houston in the first round. We win that, we get a winnable game against Michigan State in the 2nd round…but then Kansas in the Sweet 16.
