Anybody else here anything?

After reading Carmelita’s post the other day I checked my caller id and we had missed a call from the office on Monday at 410! I assumed they were calling for the same reason. My daughter called them back today and she also got the excellence scholarship!! They said that she got at least the excellence and they were still reviewing applications and it was possible she could still be bumped up to distinction. Did they mention that to you Carmelita?

that’s marvelous! congratulations to your daughter! yes they told me distinction was a possibility (Im not counting on it though i feel my scores aren’t high enough) does your daughter think she’ll go to osu for sure? I’m officially committed!

carmelita did the status on your MSP application change too? I think mine right now reads “your application has been submitted for review”

@arcDayton. no my status did not change, it still reads submitted for review like yours. i wonder when it will change though…

My daughter’s status still says submitted for review too. I’m not expecting distinction either. My daughter is committed to OSU and my son also. So tuition for one of them will certainly help.

that’s great that they want to go to the same place. and I hope your son gets it too! :)

Hey Carmelita3! CONGRATS! That’s absolutely amazing!! Quick question - When did you apply for MSP, and when did you get accepted for OSU? I’m just trying to gauge how long it’ll take them! :)

I applied for MSP/osu in early october. I was accepted to OSU in late november and heard from my recruitor last monday. i wish you luck pre-med buddy!

Wow, that’s a pretty fast process! Haha. Congrats again! That’s so awesome! Awww! Thank you!!! I’m crossing my fingers and waiting! Haha.

Does anyone know what the requirements for socioeconmic factors would be?

I’m not quite sure. I’m middle class and I received the scholarship.

Socioeconomic for this is where you live, not your personal financial situation.

The students I assist (I work with a number of regional school districts) who have received the Morrill are always those who either have an ethnic background or history of some sort, are a minority, inner city, or live in one of the local area Appalachian counties. Other students are not considered, regardless of family income.

I know this may be a lot to ask, but if anyone has received the MSP scholarship yet I would REALLY appreciate it if you could post the award level and some basic stats (SAT/ACT, GPA, essay topic, number of extracurriculars, etc.)

thank you

Still no one?! This is making me really nervous, idk if I’m in the ballpark for the scholarship or not

Some new information for people who applied as Morrill Scholars. If you have been deferred, such as myself, your chances of getting any money are slim to none and will probably be zero dollars and zero cents. The reason I say this is because I just called the Office of Minority Affairs where the scholarship program is located and talked to a recruiter. I asked her that since I’m deferred and they won’t be letting me know (probably) until March 31st at the earliest, "Would I be receiving some if any money at all? The recruiter’s response to me was, “Probably not because we have to submit our decisions to financial aid by the first week of March and you probably won’t have a decision on your admission yet.” So, for those of you who are deferred and are waiting on a response for money and financial aid for the Morrill Scholars Program, expect to probably get no money at all. Nice to know we wasted our time writing a long essay and getting letters of recommendation. Best of luck to everyone deferred! Why would they not make the admissions decisions and and financial aid department meet up and come up with a schedule that they could work together on.

sadly I think you are right @200171884

I didn’t get a penny last year, and once you lose out on merit money as an incoming first year student you have no chance in the future

Wait do you mean deferred from OSU or the MSP?

Deferred (aka delayed) admission to Ohio State, NOT the Morrill Scholars Program. You can’t be deferred from that. You either get money or you don’t from MSP. If you are deferred from OSU, chances are you’re not getting any money.

oh ok, gotcha. And I’m truly sorry to hear that, 200171884… I wish you luck in the future
