Official Morrill Scholars Program Class of 2016

She just told me we would be notified. I plan on checking my msp account and financial aid. Or watch out for an email

So i called again and was told they that they hope we are notified by the end of the week, because thay are waiting to get approval to release the decisions and i spoke to Daniel Thomas. So im officially not checking anything until the end of the week.

Another day ended without any news. It is so much torture. As far as I what I found out is that the delay is because the university wants to balance out the scholarship distribution. They do not want one person gets too many different scholarships. For example, if you already got the Provost or National Buckeye scholarship, then you are less likely to get the Morill Scholarship. I think that is fair in my opinion.

Yeah. Although, that is confusing. The only people who could win the prominence are those out of state with at least top 20% class rank, but anyone fitting that criteria has already gotten a National Buckeye.

I have been checking this thread, logging on to my daughters osu account, and checking her email about every other hour. Call me crazy, but this has been a long wait! I haven’t read anything that gave a later deadline than April 1st. The 1st is a Sunday and I doubt they will mail, email, or post award letters on the weekend. This leaves us with today and tomorrow. My daughter already received an email a while back letting her know she received the Excellence & Provost awards. She did not get invited to an interview. If you have not been interviewed by now, you are not up for the Distinction. My daughter also applied for special and departmental scholarships so it would be nice to see the final award letter with the Morrill, Provost, and anything else she may get. I just want everything to be final. We received our housing contract and invite to orientation already.

Using Buckeye/Provost to decide who gets a scholarship belies earlier messages and messages from prior years that you can stack scholarships.

I think it also contradicts their earlier behavior. People were getting messages in January notifiying them they received the Excel, I assume without regard to the other scholarships those individuals may have/were receiving.

Having said that, no telling what they are doing and how they are deciding. The process does seem to change each year.

As someone whose son hasn’t received any notice of an award, interviewed unsuccessfully for Distinction, and who has received the Provost and Buckeye, it is quite confusing. He received Buckeye and provost very quickly after acceptance. What’s the point in interviewing then?

I would assume anyone interviewed for Distinction would at automatically get prominence. I mean, only the top 60 even interview, right?

if i sent in my msp app prior to dec 1st but was admitted to osu mid december, & i haven’t heard anything from msp till this day- do i still have a chance for this scholarship?

also, who typically gets these scholarships, obviously i know the requirements. but does anyone know the typical stats of the students who receive this?

please help!!

I’m in the same exact situation as you and they said after Wednesday (yesterday) that they would start giving out awards so I would think within the next week

Whateverhappens - well, we hope so. It certainly seems reasonable that if you were selected to interview (and it is 60 from which they choose 10) you would receive something. It’s very confusing though that some people in January get an award with a message of “you will be considered for distinction,” and others selected for interview aren’t informed of anything.

I’m just commenting on the prior post indicating they are trying to spread the scholarship money between Morrill and other scholarships, which runs contrary to comments about ability to stack awards.

Everyone’s situation is their own. On the one hand I can understand trying to spread the money, but for us being out of state, even with the other scholarships, without the Morrill he won’t be going to OSU. Spreading the money MAY mean fewer kids will go because they don’t reach the affordability threshold.

Hopefully we’ll get good news tomorrow

I’d suggest staying hopeful for a day or so longer. It can’t hurt.

As you may tell from looking at prior posts, its a mystery. I’ve heard the essay makes a big difference, but I don’t know.

Looking at posts from prior years, it is confusing. Applicants with very high stats get nothing, and those with mediocre stats do.

the major deciding factor for the morrill is the essay. their main goal is to see if you promote diversity, having good grades is just a plus.

That’s surprising. I got excellence so far and I figured it was because the essay was a secondary factor. Now that I read it, I see that my main point in the essay was that programs promoting “diversity” are flawed as you can’t get a bunch of different colored people in a room and just say it’s “diverse”. Not a good topic for this sort of thing :|

I called the office today and the woman (forgot to ask for her name) told me that the e-mails will be going out today. She didn’t tell me a time but at least we’ll know before the day’s over (hopefully). Crossing my fingers! Good luck to all of you!

Anyone get an email…?

wooot I got excellence! Would this and Maximus combined give me basically full tuition?

I’m so glad I got the morrill!! I was denied from my reach colleges so this really boosted my moral!

does anyone know if all the emails get sent out at once? and do those who do not receive the scholarship still get notified?

@Arcobalenco: How where you notified and when? I thought there would be more posts by now if something was posted on accounts or sent out by email. Anyone else??

Arcobaleno: Did you get an email today ?

I got the prominence! Yes! I was notified in an email
