Yes, you will.

jetlogic, last year when i applied for honors, they hadn’t accepted me yet and my registration date was coming up. So I called them up and they let me in “provisionally” until they processed the application, so i was able to register for honors classes. I would call quick. 594-5611, ext. 4665

They close at 4 oclock.

@niflo - yup.

@jet - dang you really should have just gone in person and carolyn could have added you to honors on the spot. thats how she got me into eng1AH and eng 1CH lol!

you can also do the provisional add as well. i really hope you get that application through… gl!

Ugh dang. My situation is a little skewed, because my high school GPA wasn’t high enough, but she said she’d take application anyways as My last two years were basically perfect with almost perfect APs and high SATs that I listed in my essay. That early app for some reason never went through, so once my summer class finished and I got an A, I sent another e-mail to Carolyn. Technically with a 4.0 GPA and 3 units + 20 something AP transferable units, I’m an applicable student through the second option. Just can’t seem to get a hold of anyone.

dang bummer…lets hope for the best then.

I paid my fees already. Do I have to go on campus to get books? I know you can order them online right or was it already in the registration fees?

@ nifloe: You have to buy your own books. Go to the textbook store across from Mt.SAC… its cheaper than the store on campus FYI. (thanks dainese for this recommendation haha)

Also you dont pay fees when you’re on waitlist…

Yeah I know I’m talking about the class I’m registered for. there’s a textbook store right across the street from it? lol

By the way, if you’re getting financial help do they also help with cost of textbooks?

Yep right next to jack in the box.

Depends on how much $ you get.

Mt SAC site lagging like crazy right now or just me? haha

Yea it’s lagging like crazy

yea blackmamba covered it all.
i also HIGHLY suggest you rent textbooks if you can.
i did it for only one semester and wish i did it more haha

NEVER NEVER NEVER buy from mtsac book rac. SORRY MTSAC IF YOU READ THIS.
but seriously, they are overpriced. across the street is cheaper.

the best ways ive learned to get your money back from books
heres a couple options
- have FA pay for it
- apply for the mtsac book scholarship
- rent
- buy/sell textbooks online (craigslist, ebay, etc)
- sell to students (do not use the mtsac book buyback unless you really need some drug money)
- use the library.

usually professors will have textbooks on hold in the library which u can rent for a few hours and make copies of the pages you need to read or you can just read it there. i know math books are there, science, and some english.

always ask the prof if an older edition is okay because they tend to be cheaper

@niflo - lol yea it is!! GET THOSE CLASSES!

Yeah I know someone who has their own textbook company so I may go to them.

Are you required to bring the books? Obviously you need them but I’m just curious, are the professors serious about the books?

some are some arent. some will ask you to bring it every class session some wont.
always ask the prof if you need the book.
usually they will mention to bring your books on the days you need them.

i know some profs who will list a book on the syllabus but i NEVER use them.
for example…rock history with prof carroll. he even mentioned to us we wont need the book. and its true, you really dont. take notes on EVERYTHING he writes down and you will get an easy A.

and i dont suggest you buy math books since we have the TMARC (math tutoring center) and they provide u with books you can use on premises. it saves u hundreds of dollars if u dont mind staying on campus to do homework. its what i did. plus if you get stuck on a problem, you simply ask the tutor for help haha AND they rent out graphing calculators AND they have solutions manuals

mtsac really has so much to offer…
and during finals week, if you paid your student activities fee, you can get free scantrons/bluebooks/snacks/drinks etc

I will definitely be at that math center 24/7 if I can get math 180 haha

so did you guys get your classes?

Yeah I was able to get in my math class now and I can register 2 other classes too if I’d like (just gotta figure out the times)

Why is one class called MATH 51 and another is MATH 51A? are they both the same? Or does math 51 cover both halves?
also
What is a good amount of credits to take my first semester here or per semester? So far I only have 2 classes, 7 credits

im not sure about the math part…(not math savvy, i only took 1 math class)
i would think 51 covers both halves.

usually 4 classes is good enough.
i did really well taking only 4 during the semester and 1 class during the intersessions
and although i did 5 my last semester, i regret it because it beat me up. but i did well anyway.

it all depends on how much you can handle. 18 is the maximum amount of units allowed UNLESS you get an approval from a counselor
12 units is considered full time.

Yeah I would probably need under 12 units since I will be @ work, with 3 classes I’ve got 11 units and the week looks good.

did you allow yourself flexibility when u chose your classes/times? Or did you just get what was there

HOLY SH IT waitlist positions flew yesterday after midnight or this morning.

SMH at me. Should have stayed up. I guess people didnt pay their fees…

Now all the waitlist positions are full but there are so many open spots in all classes… Gotta put some work in today…

LMAO. Just got on the waitlist a min after posting that comment. Im a lucky man. WAITLIST FTMW!!!

A bunchhh of people got dropped throughout the night.

A lot of open spots in classes/waitlists, take advantage! Even if the waitlist says full, most classes have a few spots open, so keep checking until the #1 waitlist person registers (they have 48 hours), then you can take that #10 position. Kinda confusing, but you guys get it right?
