Yessir. I would have busted all nighter if I knew that haha

Itās not too late, keep checking every couple hours!

@nifloe - i didnt work while i was in school. i tried it for the first semester and it was too mcuh for me. but if you are taking 3 classes you may be okay. i know some honors students who work full time and still do over 20 units and are somehow aliveā¦lol

its all on how you can handle it. since budget cuts are so bad and only getting worse, i got what i could. i didnt have much of a choice to be picky.

Anyone here take Calculus before? Prof Scott Guth or Kambiz Khoddam? Both have the great ratings on ratemyprofessorsā¦

@dainese

Yeah man I know what u mean. I may have worded my last question wrong tho.

What I was asking was if I take 1 class this fall, lets say its just a core class and itās not under general ed (ENGL 68 or MATH51), then take 3-4 classes in Spring. IS it possible to be on track to graduate from sac in 2yrs?

btw How long is winter session and how many classes can you take in it? When does spring semester begin?

[Mt. San Antonio College Academic Calendar](Academic Calendar)
That will show you the academic calendar for length of sessions, start dates, etc

Ok ignore my last post. I found answers in the FAQ section on mt. sacās site.

It says it recommends to focus on math/english classes ur first semester but its not required, they can wait til next semester. And major and GE classes should be taken at the same time

Itās 7 units in winter and summer sessions. (thanks for the calendar jet)

I was able to get into my math/english classes this semester by being waitlisted so should I take them anyway? Plus I have a general ed class PSYC-1a. My major is undecided.

Sorry for bunch of questions

@nifloe

Math, English, and PSYC1A is a great way to start off at Mt. Sac. Very similar to mine actually. You are in good shape.

If it were me, Iād try to add one more class, but only if you can handle it. Other GEās that are interesting but pretty easy are: Philosophy, Sociology, Geography. Maybe you can try an online class ? Iāve taken three online classes so far, and loved them.

@ AAW000: Can you elaborate on online class? I was just wondering how things go in an online classā¦ easier or harder than lecture classes?

I have 3 classes right now.

Eng 1A
Math 180
Bio 1

Thinking about what to add for a 4th classā¦

Over the summer I took an online course (Phil 15 w/ Andrea Diem) and it was pretty interesting. The entire class was based on weekly completions with reading, video watching, creating a personal website, a class discussion forum, and one mandatory field trip. I canāt yet compare it to a college lecture class, but if I were to compare it to some difficult APās, Iād say it was a fairly easy class if you could manage your time well and allowed for much more freedom in schedule.

@nifloe - look at it this way, to transfer within 2 years to a UC you need the minimum of 60 units depending on your major. so as long as you can accumulate 60 units within 2 years, you can transfer within 2 years. BUT it all depends on your major/school.

What do you guys think about self-studying Pre Calculus? All the classes I see are fullā¦ Iām going to try to add it, but if i canāt, maybe I can go to the tutoring center every day for 1-2 hours? I technically just have to pass the Calculus exam into Math 180 right?

yup. if you pass the test, you can take 180.

i think thats a great idea, but you will really have to focus.
i suggest you do an extremely good cram session and take it soon because you are allowed to take the test again every 3 months if you fail. so if you take the test now, atleast you will know what is on it and what you know and what you dont. then in 3 months of studying the material on the test, you take it again and pass :)

thats what i didā¦shhhh :D

Does anyone have a number to that textbook store across the street from SAC?

CTC College Text Book Center
1241 N Grand Ave
Walnut,CA91789-1343
Local: (909) 444-1130

that should be it

awesome, now I donāt have to drive there to ask and stuff lol

Just in case anyone didnāt see this previously, Iām going to keep it fresh.

If anyone who is currently attending Mt. Sac or will be in 2010-2011 is reading this thread and is interested in aiding the establishment of a Secular Student Alliance group (To promote the well being and community of Atheists, Agnostics, Freethinkers, Humanists, etc), you should contact me by pm, and Iāll give you my e-mail/facebook so that we can discuss specifics. Tell your fellow freethinking friends!

If any previous students know any professors or staff that would be willing to assist or advise, Iād also appreciate it.

Thanks all!

I transferred to Mt Sac from ELAC two semesters ago with a totl of 31 units. I was planning on graduating next spring but, I just found out that only english 101 and math 125 were transferable. How can this be? They were my GE courses like history and art what is so special about Mt SAC courses? Is there anything I can do to get the courses counted? Petition perhaps? Maybe there was a mistake in admissions? The front desk at admissions told me most would be counted because they were GE and not specific to a major. It seems to me like they just want me to spend more money on classes.

Youāll most likely need to petition for course equivalencies with the individual departments, I would schedule with a counselor to talk about it. Bring a transcript

Hey JetLogic, you should post your club ad on the FB Sac main page, not just the discussion board. The board gets bogged down by book selling and the main page gets a lot more of the action. And drama.
