should be closed due to budget cuts.
you can check their hours on the website
and im sure it will tell you M-F

dang! how am i suppose to get my trig class… :(

Does english 1A come after english 68?

since my major is undecided I should worry about completing classes that fit under IGETC and General Ed right?

I’m just a bit confused as a newcomer.
I got 3 papers at orientation, 1 paper says IGETC curriculum and has a list of classes, 2nd paper says CSU General Education w/ list of classes, 3rd paper says MT SAC Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and has a list of classes, and on the bottom says General Education Requirements 24 units are required.

So finish 24 units general ed and the courses required on the IGETC paper?

@churroke dude look at the prereqs for trig. It says you need to be placed into it by the assesment test AND also have passed geometry. So unless you took math 61, turned in hs transcripts that says you passed geometry, or took the geometry assessment test, you can’t take that class. Yes there is a separate test for geometry.

@nifloe yes English 1a comes after 68. Since you are undecided I would suggest that you take GE classes from the igetc or csu list (whichever type of university you plan on transferring to).

oh ok so 24 units from IGETC or CSU + the remaining courses needed right? Like on the IGETC sheet it says take at least 2 courses from the following (then it shows the list of classes)

so it would be 24 units to graduate, then more to transfer basically?

Waitlist positions didnt move much after last night… I guess people paid their fees… hahah

@dainese:
Yay you were right ! I got biol1!
but… ): I’m got all indecisive again and changed my classes LOOOL D:
so… I’m still on waitlist for Hist1 & Frch1 ): if by the time monday comes around and I’m still on waitlist, all I have to do is show up to the class and try to get that ADD code right D: ? Will I have a better chance getting the ADD code cos I’m on the waitlist?
Thanks! :D

has anyone taking “political science”?..is it hard? I just got it after 5 days of waitlist

poli sci is pretty easy. mostly memorizing …

so it’s not like AP Government with Smith right?

@ churroke yes i had same problem adding trig. they told me to take my hs transcript to building 61 (math and science department) room 2505. i dropped mine of because they were at lunch break so i called them afterwards to make sure and they cleared me to register for trig about 5 min after i called. All they want to see is that u completed at least 2 semesters of geometry at hs. but if u scored good on placement tests u should be ok.

give them a call if u havent already.and good luck

does anyone have any suggestion for any other classes i should register for?
waitlist : eng 68
us history
registered: trigonometry

i dont know what others to get and not 100% sure on major so what should i take? Want to have at least 2 more courses just in case i wont get all i wanna have 4 for sure.

does anyone have “music appreciation”??? My professor just send me a email to bring the “2D model” wonder what that is…

@nifloe -yup 1A is after 68. so if you want to transfer…to say UC(insert city)
you would take IGETC + major pre-reqs (depending on major, some require you finish all pre-reqs, some dont)

if you do CSU you would follow the CSU paper + major pre-reqs
if you want to graduate mtsac with an AA (associates) then you need the 24 GE units + w/e is listed.

most transfer students do NOT get their AA.

@thatone - try getting a science/social science/humanities/arts/foreign langauge
did you get an IGETC sheet from mtsac? it will literally list all the courses you need to transfer to UC’s :)

here is one i found on google, BUT keep in mind its from 2003.

http://www.mtsac.edu/catalog/2003/sec9.pdf
PAGES 12-13

however most of the transferable classes are generally unchanged from what i see. since this is only temporary, i suggest you pick an updated one up from the transfer center. its on the 2nd floor of the student services building across from counseling.

@churroke - i dont think we will know either haha, i suggest you email the prof asap. i dont even have any clue/guess as to what a 2D model is needed for a music app class lol

@Dainese I decided to change my major to Biology instead of Bioengineering since I don’t wanna stay in Sac for 3 or 4 years…can I just finish IGETC requirement and transfer out to UCLA?

biology is also pretty competitive and i would still suggest you finish all your major pre-reqs or atleast as many as possible…but id say this with any major because the more you have done the higher your chances of getting accepted are.

if you have a 4.0 GPA with only IGETC
versus a student with a 3.7 GPA with IGETC/all major pre-reqs…
the other student will have priority over you IMO.

@Dainese FOR REAL??! omg…GG… but I’m not even eligible to take Bio1 since I’m in Eng 67. and even Chemistry(prereq: English1A) …man I have second doubt of ditching UCR for a dream :(

nooo…dont have second doubts. :(

im not trying to scare you, just being realistic.
ill lay it out for you in a honest way…atleast this is what i know.

majors that are impacted tend belong to some subcategory of the big 5,
SCIENCE, MATH, ENGINEERING, SOCIAL SCIENCES, BUSINESS

majors that may require 3-4 years are ones that have lots of pre-reqs that MUST be finished before transferring…such as biochem.

majors that are less competitive/not impacted usually only require you finish IGETC and thats about it. my friend got accepted to UCLA for philosophy with no major pre-reqs done since it was his 2nd choice major. he ended up not going to UCLA and chose UCI for economics instead.

competition is fierce and time is hard to manage these days. but hard science majors CAN transfer in 2 years. i know plenty who have and did it just fine.

the only downside to your case is that you are starting at eng 67 leaving you behind a bit, but not by much. def not 4+ years behind. or 4 years for that matter. realistically speaking if you focus and do lots of great EC’s and get priority registration somehow (whether it be student government, student athelete, EOPS, etc) you can get out easily within 2-3 years.

the only reason you could be doing 3 years is because you have to take so many pre-requisites to other major pre-reqs/GE’s; however, keep in mind that you will probably have a few ez coasting last semesters in your 3rd year leaving you LOTS of time for internships/volunteer work/research etc. that will boost your application and get you into your dream school.

definitely do not let such a small bump deter you from your goals.
i somehow graduated high school with a 2.07 GPA. but i now have a 3.88 GPA and start USC monday.

so anythings possible. seriously.
i know there are many people who have had it worse and have come up on top.
think positive :)
