I believe you get a check in the mail. I’d call and ask though, but for sure you get your money back though.

and any of you take night classes at sac? not much different from taking classes during the day?

there are 2 different building # and meeting times for this…

http://i52.■■■■■■■.com/fdu70g.jpg

but the CRN is the same. Are they 2 seperate classes under the same CRN? Or is it just one class?

Hello guys, brand new here and had some questions.

What is the easiest Arts class to take for IGETC requirements. I tried Understanding Visual Arts and you have to write papers in that class… same thing with music classes… huh??? Haven’t registered yet for an Art class.

Curious if anyone knows, if you transfer AP scores to Mt. SAC and you want to transfer to a UC, how does this work? Do they just take Mt. SAC transcript and accept it as is or will you have to send the UC the AP scores also (what would be the point of sending them to SAC?).

If you are planning to major in a science course, is 1 semester of US History required or can you not take it and still transfer? Will you have to take this at the UC if not at CC?

Thank you!

@ thatoneotherguy: YES YOU GET YOUR $$ BACK. SO DROP IT ASAP!!

AND TO ALL YOU LURKERS THAT ARE IN CHEM50, DROP THE CLASS ASAP IF YOU’RE NOT PLANNING TO STAY THE WHOLE SEMESTER!!!

YES IM MAD. I SEE ALL THESE SLACKERS IN CHEM50 THAT IM 99.99% SURE IS GOING TO DROP THE CLASS AFTER 2 WEEKS THAT ITS PIS$ING ME OFF. PEOPLE ARE SLEEPING IN CLASS OR TEXTING ON THEIR PHONES. ■■■■ OFF THAT SEAT DAMN IT.

@nifloe - yea i took lots of night classes, the only difference is you might get tired easily and want to sleep if its a long ass class. normally profs wil llet you out early too since they want to go home too.

as for the pic you posted…im not 100 percent sure. what class is that?
either way, as long as you go to the first one, you can ask the prof what the 2nd half is for and dont ask other students lol, they want your spot.

@conceptj -

i believe as long your AP scores are at mtsac, thats good enough. but someone else like JetLogic can probably clarify this. otherwise just ask a counselor at sac haha

thats only for CSU

@blackmamba - lol…its unfortunate isnt it. welcome to CC haha T-T super super seniors are the worse too! mtsac should give high GPA/seniority priority instead of just super sneniors snatching classes theyre going to drop.

@blackmamba… I wish you the best man. It’s really sad…we have a girl in our class that needs our class in order to graduate, and she wasn’t able to get in. Even the professor felt bad for her.

Lurkers…if you stay…#IHOPEYOUFAIL

Dainese, what course do you suggest to take to fulfill USC’s “CATEGORY II: Global Cultures and Traditions .” I want to take something easy :)

I can clarify with the AP. Mt. SAC does not give you graded or degree credit for AP classes. UC’s however, do. There’s a good chance that your APs won’t make it onto the official transcripts and the classes they equate to may be different at your transfer institution.
tl;dr you’ll most likely have to send an official copy of your AP report AFTER you’re accepted to a UC/Private. You just self-report on the application.

AND OH MAN
This semester is going to suck. I’ve already got so much crap to do :[

I just talked to someone today at Mt. SAC and they do give you credit for AP. If you are at 50 units and you have 3 AP classes worth 4 units each, they can technically be used as transfer units…

Thanks for the Arts class suggestions. I could not believe some of these 3 unit classes required the kind of essays the teachers asked…

As transfer units, but you will not be able to apply them to an associates. Basically they tell you their course equivalent, but that doesn’t mean it will apply the same when you try to transfer them. With UCs and CSUs it will be pretty close, but with privates it definitely will not be.

Here’s what I read from the their manual:

Advanced Placement Examination
Students who have completed Advanced Placement
Examinations of the College Entrance Examination
Board shall receive credit for Mt. San Antonio College
courses as listed below upon entrance to the College,
once a student record has been established. A grade
of “credit” will be assigned to each student who
obtains a score of 3, 4, or 5. A student’s permanent
record will be annotated. Credit earned by Advanced
Placement may be counted towards Associate Degree
requirements, IGETC, and CSU General Education-
Breadth requirements if the equivalent Mt. San Antonio
College course meets the requirement. The units
earned from Advanced Placement do not meet any
Mt. San Antonio College residency requirements nor
are they subject to the credit-by-examination unit
limit policy. Students may submit official copies of
Advanced Placement Examination test scores to the
Admissions Office for evaluation.

http://www.mtsac.edu/catalog/2004/section03.pdf (Page 5 in the pdf, page 27 on the official catalog since 2004)

As far as I know most AP classes do have equivalents (as far as Mt. SAC is concerned and has been updated quite a bit from 2004) since it’s been around for so long. I’m trying to bring in AP Bio, AP Stats, AP Euro.

Before Fall I submitted over 5 APs to try and get credit. The only two that show on my unofficial transcript are the ones that I used to cover pre-reqs. Getting them processed is quite the task. They also contribute nothing to GPA and are noted as having 0.00 credit hours on my transcripts. Good luck and hopefully it works for you, but it looks like even after a year here I won’t be seeing the use of my AP credit until I attend my transfer institution.

Credit by Examination will be granted only for those courses which
have been so designated by the departments.

Any grade received for Credit by Examination will be entered on the
students permanent record with a notation of Credit by
Comprehensive Exam.

A student may petition for Credit by Examination provided:

b. The student has not already received credit nor is currently
enrolled beyond six weeks in the same course or in a more
advanced course (except for Advanced Placement Course
Credit).
c. The student has at least a 2.0 grade point average. This includes
transfer/new students.

The student may obtain the petition for Credit by Examination from
the Division Office.

The department will establish written guidelines by which the
eligibility of a student to take such an examination is determined.

The Department will assign a grade depending on the results of the
examination and submit the form Petition for Credit by

The student may not use Credit by Examination to satisfy the
residency requirement for the degree.
A list of courses for Credit by Examination is available at each
Division Office, the Instruction Office, or through Counseling Center.

I’m assuming at this point you have already re-taken the classes that were AP so they would not be able to add it if you already have it. Although I do remember before they got on this new system (maybe a couple of years?), their transfer/admissions dept seemed a little whack, because I see other classes that weren’t there before and with the new system it is there.

If you turned it in recently you should get the credit. I would follow up on that because it says clearly in their catalog what you get with the AP scores. If you just turned it in once and never followed up… something else could be going on…

@churroke - thats terrible :\ hopefully she finds a spot

@uschpoeful - thats a tough one…i only took AHIS9 and that was one of the hardest classes ive ever taken. but i def had fun in it. you can expect to do TONS TONS TONS TONS TONS TONS (cant stress it enough) of memorizing.

ive never tried so hard in a class until this one.
the other classes im not familiar with, but anthro will probably be easier.

the only reason i took AHIS9 was because it was open and it worked with my schedule.

if you hanvt learned already…
@mtsac…you dont choose classes, classes choose you.

@jet - you got this haha one semester closer to transferring
there were days when i was at mtsac thinking to myself if id ever get out.
to want to be at a prestigious university seemed so out of reach,
but with each day that came closer…my dream became a reality haha

ITS STILL QUITE SURREAL!!!

@everyone - when you do transfer, i hope you dont forget mtsac. the accomplishments and opportunities it provided for me can never be replaced. rep it and be proud!

oh yea…and just because you’ve transferred doesnt mean you get to slack off. many of my fellow transfers have messed up their first semester. keep working hard everyone! :D

@concept - best way to know a clear answer is talking to linda diaz in the honors department and be sure to update us.

That’s not the case, I wouldn’t retake classes I already have passing credit in. Ask any student who has submitted AP this school year and see if it’s on their transcripts. I checked in a month or two ago and they hadn’t started processing any of them yet.

Mt. SAC needs to implement priority registration for honors students like other community colleges have. Let all the slackers get their classes last.

I don’t even have enough units to be a full-time student at the moment.

How difficult is ENGL1A as a hybrid class? I went to the only required meeting and man…the instructor put it straight forward. Everything is online and we drop assignments off by due dates that’s it.

I already have trouble with essays as it is.

@nifloe - writing center and talking to the prof will help you get an A in that class. ask the prof what theyre looking for and if theyd be willing to look over your essay or something.

@dainese: I’m taking ahis4H & ahis9 this semester and they already seem like they are going to be just as you say haha… ahis4h seems to be a really chill class while ahis9 is like o-o;;; scary kinda (I’m working really hard in there already!)… do you know if a lot of people got an A in that course? I’m really worried since ahis9 is one of my prereq coursesヽ(;▽;)ノ
