**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

@auriauri - im no quite sure of the answer towards your first question, however try asking any of these counselors. they are at the bottom of the page.

http://www.mtsac.edu/students/bridge/docs/counselors_reference.pdf</a></p>

if anything you will probably end up only going to the connect 4 orientation.
as a freshmen you can get probably 2 classes…whether or not they will be useful i cant really say…haha.

summer and winter are packed but not as packed as fall/spring.
stay persistent in getting classes and ull have them.

my freshman summer i took 1 class haha…i liked to focus on 1 class during the summer/winter and do 4-5 during spring/fall.

@blackmamba - yea theyre kind of unknown…i hope they didnt stop doing them lol. you get a fancy medal and a really nice award  and theyre free from what i recall.

@jet - yea i actually had a professor who was super ****ed at a student for recording him haha… but at USC ive been recording profs all day and they can careless haha…but its still worth asking :P

@Dainese Thanks for the response, I’ll probably just end up going to both orientations, don’t know if there is any harm in that though. I just wanted to take summer classes since I plan to transfer after 2 years like yourself, and I want to get as many classes as I can. If I may ask, what were the steps you took to transfer in 2 years?
PS: I’ve taken a few AP classes at WHS and I don’t know if that factors in as well.

i transferred in 1.5 years because USC only requires a minimum of 30 units to transfer
while UCs generally require about 60 units. i came into USC with 45ish units though.

you just relay have to be persistent and patient when trying to get classes…its extremely frustrating. but you do what you gotta dooo…

i do suggest you try to get priority registration. you get do that through either being an athlete for mtsac or doing student gov.

and yes those AP tests will transfer over as credits, i believe you just head over to the student center and talk to admissions on how to transfer them over…im not too clear on that but someone else here might be. :)

and im from WHS too! class of 07 :D

@Dainese I want to transfer to UCLA so, yeah, I’ll probably be taking at the very least 2 years at Mt. Sac. Also thank you so much, I’ll remember your advice about patience and persistence and also about priority registration. :)

Though, I do have another question I’d like to throw out here. Does anybody know whether or not the online orientation counts? I did the whole thing, but there was no change in the status of my application. It would certainly be strange if it had no purpose.

not sure on that one. if i recall, orientation was mandatory but im not sure if online counts… :</p>

I am new to this website, and im not sure how to use it, so forgive me if I do not reply or do something wrong. Anyways, I am a current student at mt. sac. It is my first year here. I current have a 4.0 gpa. I have taken
FCS51
Soc 4
Eng 67
Bio 5
Mus 13
Eng 68
Psych 26
And I am currently taking math 160, Eng1ah, psych 1ah, Span 1. I’m in a bit of a predicament and i need some advice. I am currently taking math 160 and have a C- in the class, and soon to be D or F. Should I just drop the class with a W and retake it later? My teacher is horrible and can’t seem to learn anything from her. Also, I am a Bio Major and my dream school is UCLA. Please help me!

Have you tried getting tutoring at the T-MARC?

if you feel like you cant pull your grade up and you know you can do better another time, then drop it with a W.

but like jet said, get tutoring at t-marc, i was there quite often haha. the writing center too :X

ya I go to the t-marc! but they don’t help much. Like they help me with all of my homework, but they don’t really explain it to me. I think i’m going to drop it though because I really can’t afford a bad grade. I was also wondering if it is a bad idea if I take Bio4h, chem50h, eng1ch, and math 160 in one semester. I made an educational planner with Linda, and she recommended to take that schedule.

usually linda is pretty reasonable with planning…if she says go for it, id trust her.

shes been doing this long enough to know who is a student that can handle a load like that and who isnt. personally i wouldnt take on the load, but you kind of already know what to expect for math 160 so you should be fine as long as you stay on top of all your classes

I’m not sure if i’ve asked this already but when does income freshmans begin to choose their classes for next year? i also remember taking a placement test back in early march and getting a 90 on the blue math test (second test out of four tests) should i take the next hardest placement test?

EDIT: A few moments ago I tried to log on to myportal and my account has been disabled after a few attempts on entering my password. I was told to contact the system admin , do you know where I can contact this person?

ok thank you! I am going to work my butt off next semester! Also, mtsac just released Summer 2012 classes. I find it really upsetting because the catalog is so small, and there are barely any classes! I’m so worried about not being able to get Chem 40! It looks like I will have to fight for classes again :(

@vtlord - when you say next year im assuming your talking about fall 2012 and registration for that semester is generally early august/late july , im not sure of the exact date just yet.

and if you feel like you can go even higher for the math placement tests, by all means do it. you’ll save urself the time and money.

and as to the failed log in attempts im not quite sure…
try calling the student services center

Accepted and going to Berkeley!

Yay! Haha you’re the man, dude! I’m super stoked for you! I was waiting with anticipation for you to inform us of your acceptance. Congratulations!

haha, thanks! I’ve been worried all week so this is just a huge weight off my back (and a really cool way to start a weekend)

Did you have the option of taping Berkley? Or only UCLA? Also, van you tap and tag? Ex. tap UCLA, tag.ucr in. the same transfer window

TAP is priority, not guarantee. I’m not a humanities major, so TAP wasn’t really worth it. (You need to complete like five honors courses, but pretty much none of the honors courses are for math/science/engineering majors). I believe you can TAP and TAG.

Hello new student here. I just want to ask if it’s hard to get classes for summer term? I am planning to take a few science classes (anatomy, bio) but I’ve heard that it’s near impossible for new students to even register for class due to the budget cut. Thanks!

yes it will be hard, but if you are persistent you might get the class

and jet, congrats  looks like the good news just keeps coming haha
i wish you the best at cal.
