Official Non-Official RUE 2017 Applicant Thread

Has anyone gotten a letter in the mail yet?

I was told that decisions were sent out Monday.

Nope. Who told you that?

I called admissions two days ago.

Anyone know why Brown is mailing decisions in 2017 versus just updating their portal like every other school in America?

Didn’t get in. Good luck to everyone.

Did you get a letter or did your portal update? How did you find out?

@sirlance I am sorry to hear that, but with only ten openings available, you can’t take it as any real indication of your aptitude. I expect to receive the same news later today, and knowing there were so few spaces will help to ease the disappointment.

@kgallagher I don’t know why they do this, but it is much more difficult to arrange a move as an adult, with homes, jobs, and or familial responsibilities-as opposed to those just out of high school where they generally have assistance from families, and the knowledge that they will be in dorms somewhere.
One would expect the adults to receive news much earlier, especially when there is a set number of slots, and it isn’t determined by how many RD students do not commit.

Sure, when it comes to RUE everything you mentioned goes without saying.

I was speaking more to the antiquated method of communication

@kgallagher I understood. I was echoing your frustration, and making a point that a more expedient means of delivering decisions would make much more sense. I wonder if it is a hold-over from earlier in the program. Perhaps at one point they assumed that the applicants were less computer savvy, and haven’t updated their decision methods despite now having the application process fully digitalized.

@kgallagher did you also receive your decision by mail?

I’m going to email their office right now. The issue with being an international applicant is that w/r/t time zones, phone bills, applicable technology, variations in municipal customs and so on is that it’s a quiet logistical nightmare. If my decision was sent out solely through mail then I’d just as well never get one.

Yes by mail

So do they mostly just accept military veterans?
