****OFFICIAL Northwestern CLASS OF 2019 Discussion Thread****

@CodeBreaker‌
You should try my method! So I list all 30 schools alphabetically, then use random number generator to determine which one to write first. Then I write an essay within a single day. Each day I write one essay at random and review one at random. If I have any qualities at all, it’s that I’m an imaginative thinker so writing comes relatively easy for me. But try random number generator, it forces you to stick to principles and not slack off!

Hahaha thanks… @‌NorthernKev
My SAT 1 scores were not that great with 630 in reading and 680 in writing. (total: 2110) (I do hope they superscore)
I am just worried about that and my common app essay.

Chance me plz @NorthernKev‌
<a href=“Chance me for ED please.... - Northwestern University - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northwestern-university/1714332-chance-me-for-ed-please.html</a></p>

@CodeBreaker‌
No worries, they do superscore, that I know for sure. My SAT is only 2150 so we’re on the same boat. I guess my biggest advantage is teacher rec, other than really amazing science grades and SATIIs (nope don’t mention math). And like I said I’m counting on material engineering being not too crowded/competitive.

@NorthernKev‌
I am applying for biological science though… don’t know if there are too many applicants for that major…

@CodeBreaker‌
Well biological science is quite popular… But no worries more popular means more spots hehe :slight_smile:

@CodeBreaker‌ @NorthernKev‌ You two should stop worrying, I’m the one with the lowest score here…2080 SAT. But I’m applying to School of Communication and I still don’t see one here on CC who’s applying to that school. Weird. Only finger crossed that little ppl apply there!

@alafae‌
Nooo… I am the lowest here… 2110 is my superscore… :frowning: my superscore and actual score difference is 60. So my normal score is 60 points short. oh well… life… life … life… What is life?

NU doesn’t superscore, they were very explicit about that at every info session I went to.

I applied ED to communications as well, it feels like barely anyone ED-ed there!

@CodeBreaker‌ I heard that NU doesn’t do superscore unfortunately. I know your profile, but did you show profound interest by emailing, visiting or anything? It might make a little difference.

@marleyrose117‌ I know right, glad to hear there’s smb on my boat too! Just saw your stats, but are you applying to School of Communications or Medill?

“Thank you for your interest in Northwestern. Yes, we do superscore the SAT. Northwestern does not have standardized tests minimums or cutoffs, we review every application regardless of test scores. To give you a good idea of what a competitive applicant looks like, the middle 50% of the Class of 2018 had between a 1390 - 1540 SAT score.”
They sent me an email saying that they superscore.

Guess that’ll help you then @CodeBreaker‌! I just heard from the community in CC somewhere else about not superscoring. sorry about that!

@alafae‌ Nonono… It’s fine… I am still worried because people with actual high SAT scores look more outstanding than those who had their scores superscored. you know what i mean right?

Guess ppl like us who have bad scores need hooks and amazing essays with recommendations :frowning: You’re getting me worried too!

Ok I am taking a break from CC. Good luck guys!! We shall meet again on 12th December. Need to study for 1st semester exam.
@alafae @NorthernKev‌ good luck!

Guys just remember that Northwestern emphasizes holistic approach so your test scores are just one component of many:)

After reading this thread I am so happy I decided not to send my SAT score. It was only a 2060, so phew. But really, I wish everyone good luck. What’s done is done, so there’s really no point in worrying about your stats and essays and all that jazz now. I know a lot of people who have gotten in with average stats, so there is definitely hope. I’ll need this too, because my stats aren’t the best. Do you guys know roughly how many NU accepts from your schools each year? NU accepted 15 from my school last year, which seems really high, but I’m not sure how many were ED and what not. So I guess I’ll have to see.

@bamboo17 last year they accepted about 50 from my state (Kansas). I will be the first from my school if I am accepted :slight_smile:

you guys do realize that essays really dont matter? Its a numbers game mostly, with ECs and Counselor Rec factored in + hooks. Teacher recs dont matter much, all teachers write flowerly hyperbole… Regardless, Good luck to yall.
