****OFFICIAL Northwestern CLASS OF 2019 Discussion Thread****

@Nardog15‌ parchment is pretty outdated with their northwestern stats.

@NorthernKev‌ I feel the same way and got the same percentage on parchment. But yeah, I’ve heard that it’s not super accurate… Hoping that’s true!

@NorthernKev I really wouldn’t rely on parchment for your chances because it isn’t very accurate, and is probably giving you a lower chance because it’s chances are based on self-reports

Also, parchment doesn’t taken into account applying early decision, which typically has about a 32% chance of acceptance.

@stressedjunior15‌

You do know that “overqualified” is irrelevant because you cannot matriculate anywhere else once accepted?

Also, I’m freaking out with the rest of you. I worry that Northwestern simply is not holistic enough to accept me. A personal circumstance fucked up my sophomore GPA, and despite my 35 ACT and legacy, this circumstance could be a major kicker to my app. Good luck to all of you!

Wow thanks for telling me! I heard from someone that Parchment always overestimates my chances, but I guess he’s wrong? And I didn’t know that Parchment doesn’t take ED into account. Anyways, thanks and good luck to you!

Gosh my Parchment percentage is 20% but they didn’t take my recommendations, essays and music hooks in. Only can keep my finger crossed for them to look into that. My SAT’s probably in the lower 25% :frowning: Talk about ‘not being qualified’, and I honestly feel I’d love nowhere else except NU!

@NorthernKev No problem:) No need to get ourselves even more freaked out than we already are haha

Going to wear purple everyday now until next Monday… Praying facing northwest… (even though I’m in Cali so should be facing northeast…)

Btw does anyone know if they give alternate majors for ED? Or is it just a flat accept/reject/delay?

I don’t think they do alternate majors-- I dont remember choosing a second and third choice major when I applied.

@etphonehome2015‌
Yeah you are right. But I was wondering because some other colleges like Berkeley only lets you select one major as well, but may offer other ones nonetheless.

Oh I see. I’m not positive, but I don’t think they do that :(

So other colleges do have ‘alternative majors’? Do the major you choose that important?

@alafae‌
Well, from my experiences applying to 30 colleges thus far, the majority let’s you select alternative majors. It’s important in the sense that it’s likely to be the major they offer you, and choice of alternates also tell them about your interests. I.e., all the UCs except Berkeley has alternates.

Gahhhh!!! Decision days are closing in… I only applied to Northwestern and didn’t even apply for early action schools. Does anyone of you apply for other schools(ea)? I just love this school so much… :frowning: :neutral_face:

@CodeBreaker‌

Lol, I’m always a “play-it-safe” kind of person so I applied to 30 schools. I applied EA to Purdue, UMich, GTech and UNC. But my true love is NU, and that’s why this is my ED. Best of luck to you!

@NorthernKev‌ You applied and submitted all applications already? Wow I did nothing and I’m planning to postpone all my work for the regular schools’ essays until NU decision!

@NorthernKev… that is pretty impressive… 30 schools… how did you manage to write all those supplements?
@alafae… That’s exactly what I did too… I am postponing my other supplement essays till the decision date.
Hope we all get in!!!

@alafae‌
I submitted all thirty apps along with NU’s on October 31st :slight_smile: Yeah I’m that kind of person, always hoping for the best and expecting the worst. It’s easier to be content this way. But ofc it’s also because I’m not that great so yeah.
