what major had you applied for within CAS?

English 10char

@transfernewyork No I have not heard back hopefully next week! I not going to lie SCPS is not one of the more prestigious schools of NYU, and is often considered the backdoor to the school. That’s not to say that the classes are any less of classes provided at other schools. Let me give you my take. NYU has always been my dream school, and given the area I’m stuck in, I would love to get out. Since I was already rejected last year, and if I am rejected from Steinhardt once again, and offered SCPS, I will probably take it. Sure, it’s not Steinhardt, or CAS, but I will still be at NYU. I would love to be in the NYU environment which was a big factor for me when I applied. I’m not sure what your other options are but you did mention CUNY. I would factor in how you would want to spend your next few years, and what environment you are looking for. Would you mind copying and pasting what the e-mail had said about transferring internally?

^^ agreed with hsclassof2011.

Thank you for your honest reply. That was really helpful and similar to how I’ve been feeling. NYU is my dream school but my sister who attends Columbia’s Law School, suggests that I branch out and apply to Barnard and Columbia. I want to go to NYU but not necessarily this way… And if I got into Barnard or Columbia vs scps, I wouldn’t go to NYU.
I did get into CUNY City but that was my back-up even though I am fond of the school. This is the part of the admission letter I got that you wanted to see:

You should also be aware that admission to McGhee does not mean that you will have an advantage in the admission process should you attempt to apply – at a later date – for admission to another undergraduate school or college at NYU.

I’ve seen a lot of great people get denied from NYU and I kind of just want to settle into a school and FINISH but I also want to graduate from the school I want to be at… I hate the admissions process but good luck! I think they would be lucky to have you with your stat background.

@transfernewyork No problem! And I completely understand, I would also choose Columbia over SCPS. Thanks, I appreciate that, and I think you will succeed no matter where you go :)

What about University of Richmond and NYU regarding business programs? ANYBODY??

I’m a California jc transfer and I don’t think I have ever been this stressed. They flew me out on an athletic recruiting trip and had an awesome time. I applied to Stern, but the longer I wait to hear back the closer I have to take the risk of declining my athletic scholarships to other schools. Which leads me to my question of who’s heard back from Stern yet?

i was reading up on last year’s transfer thread and it seemed that the general pattern was that for a lot of people who were accepted (not for everyone, but for most), their transfer credits appeared on albert BEFORE they received their official acceptance letter. I was wondering if this was the case for this year, did you guys who are currently accepted for this year receive your transfer credits on albert before you got your letter? i applied to stern btw.

I just paid UCLA deposit. F**king slow NYU .

I already signed up for orientation and applied for housing at UVM! NYU admissions is really getting annoying now…

School makes a count but major matters more.
SCPS doesnt give u like “traditional” degree but a “professional degree”
who seeks to learn useful skills
Yes… NYU is still NYU
but any recruiter, with knowledge and experience, would know SCPS students
are not as competitive as other NYU students.

For City College,
if you are majoring in engineering, computer science,
or any quantitative/technology major,
definitely apply for City College.
Your school doesn’t determine where you land or how high you go,
but your skills, which come from your undergrad study, does.
Engineering and Technology degrees have a lot of freedom
compared to other degrees.

Even if you’re not looking for a STEM degree,
you should still look at the tuition and financial aid.
If SCPS makes you pay a few times that of City College,
why consider it when you have to save up for Graduate School?

At this point I am all over NYU admissions with calls and emails. This is so ridiculous. I had my final high school transcript sent in February, and they did not get it. I had it sent again last Monday, and they are still saying they do not have it. I know they get a lot of mail that takes a long time to process, but things are getting down to the wire here.

@newyorksnight
Agreed. I have no idea what their problem is. I’ve had NO other problems with any other schools. What is up with their admissions staff?! I’m glad you’re bothering them with calls and emails…this is seriously not acceptable.

Got accepted on Thursday for fall 2012 to Gallatin as a sophomore transfer! What are other admitted students thinking about NYU/have people gotten their transfer credit info yet?

Has anyone’s transfer credit shown up who’s not accepted (yet)?

@newyorksnight

You should ask them if they accidentally made two accounts for you. I applied to GW as well and I was having the same exact problem. I sent out my college transcripts three times (I sent it the first time in early March) and they kept saying that they never received it. The other day, they looked into it and they realized that they accidentally gave me two accounts and my transcripts were in one and everything else was in the other.

Thank you for your honest input. These views are really helping me with my decision. I have officially deferred from both City and NYU-SCPS and am going to reapply to NYU-CAS and Barnard for Spring term. I I don’t hear good news then I will most likely have to decide between City and SCPS since I will be about at 60 credits.
I did not know it was a professional degree rather than a “traditional” degree. That definitely will be a factor. I do need to save for graduates school and City is very inexpensive.
I just don’t know how to judge the rigor of each school’s curriculum. SCPS isn’t as competitive as other NYU schools but after talking to them extensively today it seems like you still have to be pretty great to get in since you still get an NYU-type diploma. And NYU is on the Princeton review list while City College is not even though other CUNY schools are (well it is for being a green school…). Very conflicted and unsure but money should weigh heavily in my decision, if I were being smart.

To transfernewyork:

What do you want to major in?
Or put it this way,
which major are you most interested in?
which major you would excel in? (meaning you have a natural talent in that field)

Sorry if this has already been brought up but what the hell is with the f-ing NYU admissions? At this point, I’ve already heard back from everyone I applied to and I’ve even put a deposit at UVA - a school who’s ENROLLMENT DEPOSIT deadline has now arrived without so much as an explanation email from NYU. What the hell does NYU expect? People to just wait around for them forever? I might be willing to accept the exorbitant amount of time they’ve taken if I were to receive some sort of an explanation, but as it stands now, the only communication I’ve recieved has been one email that confirmed the receipt of my application in mid-March. At this point, I’ve already pretty much dismissed NYU as an option but I still expect some semblance of a line of communication with the admissions staff. This is the most unprofessional shi t.
