Our dorm rep gave me the following information and has OK'd my publishing it here for all cc'ers.

"Students were instructed to send packages to coincide with their arrival on campus. UPS will attempt one (1) delivery to the student's dormitory room and if vacant the packages will be brought to the UPS trailer. There is only one UPS trailer location and it is located behind Dod Hall. UPS drivers have been instructed not to bring student UPS packages to Residential College offices for any reason. Please note that other package delivery companies (FedEx, DHL, etc.) have not been instructed about their ability to drop items off at Residential College offices, so please be aware of the distinction.

After one (1) unsuccessful delivery attempt to the recipient's dorm room the package(s) will be brought to the trailer later that evening*. Please note that individuals who have missed delivery at their dorm room will not have access to retrieve their packages at the trailer until the following business day. The trailer will be open and packages dispensed from 12pm-4pm Monday -Friday, beginning on Monday August 29th. The trailer will be closed on weekends and Labor Day Monday, September 5th. The last day the trailer will be open is still undetermined, but will likely be Friday, September 16, 2005.

When the trailer is open there will be access to carts so students will not need to bring vehicles to move their packages. The carts are free but we will imprint a credit card to be sure the cart is returned to Dod so the next student may use it. The imprinted slip will be returned to the student, or destroyed when the cart is returned. We will not accept student ID cards as a means of borrowing a cart since the carts are expensive and a new ID is only $15. The carts earmarked for UPS packages will only be available for UPS packages and will not be loaned out for other uses.

Let me emphasize that this memo pertains to UPS delivery only and does not address FedEX, DHL, or Parcel Post (which is the US Mail Service package delivery system). Parcel Post packages will be handled by the Office of Mail Services and the procedure is posted on their web site http://web.princeton.edu/sites/TreasurersOffice/MailServices/policies.html#parcelpost."
